The Good Doctor Renewed for Season 3
The Good Doctor‘s got a strong pulse: ABC has renewed its Freddie Highmore-led medical drama for Season 3, TVLine has learned.
Currently airing its sophomore run on Mondays at 10/9c, The Good Doctor stars Highmore as autistic surgeon Shaun Murphy, who overcomes personal and professional hurdles while working at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Richard Schiff, Nicholas Gonzalez, Antonia Thomas, Hill Harper and Fiona Gubelmann are among the supporting players. (Read our latest episode recap here.)
Later this season, executive producer Daniel Dae Kim will step in front of the camera for a four-episode arc as Dr. Jackson Han, a new chief of surgery whose arrival will shake things up at the hospital. Also, Teen Witch alum Robyn Lively will guest-star in Episode 15 as the mother of a baby girl born with serious birth defects.
The Good Doctor this season is averaging 6.8 million total viewers and just over a 1.1 demo rating, down 30 and 40 percent from its freshman run – though it arguably suffered from a weaker lead-in this fall, with Dancing With the Stars dying on the vine. Nonetheless, it stands as ABC’s No. 2 drama and No. 6-rated series overall.
In Live+7 DVR playback, it enjoys the third-largest gains of any ABC series, jumping 89 percent in audience and 127 percent in the demo.
The Good Doctor was one of four ABC series to receive additional seasons on Tuesday: The network also renewed freshman drama A Million Little Things for Season 2, unscripted staple Shark Tank for Season 11 and long-running sitcom Modern Family for an 11th and final season. Exactly! Not that I’m complaining but it has taken me by surprise. And it’s not just one channel, they’re all doing it earlier than we’re used to – strange…
I like season 1 better than season 2. They need to bring back a few of the original cast members and give the boot to a few of the new ones this year. Seems like the show is focusing too much on Finona Gublemann’s character… sorry if she was my doctor – she would lose a patient. Bring back Chuku Modu. He was a great character that actually worked well with Sean.
well i am glad that the good doctor is coming back for another season because this is the only T V show that i watch on the ABC TV NETWORK
well and daniel dae kim starts the 4 arc with the next episode which will continue into the finale since the good doctor only has an 18 episode order and i wouldn’t be suprised if he ends up like the actress who plays morgan resnick, that they up him to series regular next year, asjust from the promo he looks like he’s going to be a great addition
What happened to the flirtation between Dr Brown and Dr. Melendez. Did they just forget about that and go a different way? Are Brown and Dr. Callard going to get together instead? What are the chances that Lucy is related to Brooke’s Smith’s character who was Shaun’s foster mother?
Scott – are we watching the same show? Who is Dr. Callard? Who is Lucy? Not trying to be a smart-aleck – I seriously don’t know who those two characters are. Anyone else care to comment? Thank you!!!

Good news. Picked this show up by streaming Season 1 over the summer. I like that there are so many storylines about other cast members. Shawn is an interesting character and well-played and it isn’t all about him.

Although down, it still has one of the best ratings of any show on any network for its 10pm slot. Then impressive +7 gains.

They need to stop sidelining Claire. I noticed that since they started with Lim and Melendez they have pushed Claire more into the role of talking with the patients family. Lim and Melendez will not last.

Well if the good doctor get back to the ER in the next 3 days. So by March 13. It Would not reflect the viwiering but could reflect the DVD sales being the difference between saling for $10.50 or $5.00.

Happy that the good doctor is returning ti ABC. After a rough days work on Monday i look forward to this series.

I love the show and am very happy it will be returning. It seems real, and is far better than some of others in the time slot.
