The Gifted is powering down.
Fox‘s Marvel mutants drama has been cancelled after two seasons, the latter of which put up far-from-super numbers, according to our sister site Variety.
The series starred Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker as parents who discover their children (Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White) have mutant abilities and go on the run, joining up with an underground network of superpowered outcasts. Sean Teale, Coby Bell, Jamie Chung, Blair Redford and Emma Dumont filled out the supporting cast.

Season 2, which wrapped up back in February, averaged fewer than 2 million viewers and just under a 0.6 rating, dropping 40 percent from its freshman run. Among Fox’s 10 dramas, it delivered the smallest audience and only bested Friday newbie Proven Innocent in the demo. (Worse, its DVR playback boosts are neither here nor there.) For a three-camera sitcom, those numbers might pass muster, but The Gifted is effects-reliant, and it sounds like Season 3 would require even more powers to be on display.
Fans still wanted to see more, though: In our recent Keep or Cut poll, 91 percent of TVLine readers voted to keep The Gifted for a third season. (The show ranked 13th out of 29 bubble shows in a later poll.)
TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the cancellation. Will you miss The Gifted? Hit the comments below and share your reaction to the news.
Well that sucks
Of course it was
It was a great series, dip 💩 you have bad tastes, these are facts.
Nooooooooooo.
Such a great show wish there was a 3rd season would love to watch it exspecially how season 2 ended
No better feeling than knowing you just wasted your time on a show cancelled after only 2 seasons.
That’s the television business for you. That’s all they care about is ratings & money. I can think of more than a handful of shows that have been canceled over the years that were absolutely stellar but under performed according to tv execs & ratings.
(These shows DID get endings but could’ve easily gone on but networks decided to pull the plug on them.)
Jericho
Warehouse 13
Alphas
The 4400 (DID NOT GET A PROPER ENDING IMO, don’t watch. The ending will just piss you off.)
Terriers
(Obligatory) Firefly (had to add it because well you know why…)
Yes! Alphas ….. still would love to know how they came out of that ending. Great show, excellent cast and should have had many more seasons than it did. I love the BBT episode when Sheldon complains about its cancellation and then tries to find out what the outcome of that season ending episode would have been …
TV does not give a hoot about the viewers and what they like, which makes it easier and easier for me to downsize what I “must” see and I try not to start a show in the first season, but wait until it gets a couple under its belt and I can catch up on Hulu or Netflix on the beginning, so I don’t get hooked on a show and then disappointed again when it is cancelled quickly.
I get you want a proper ending( I do too) but this is a business if they could have made money on a third season they would have. The ratings didn’t justify another season. It sucks for fans but if it’s not making money it’s not gonn be on the air.
If you’re gonna take networks to task for not giving you “proper endings” (or whatever) shouldn’t you at least mention your appreciation for them actually airing the shows?
I watched all those same shows. And upset too that they were canceled.
With the exception of Terriers, sensing a theme…..SciFi.
And WH13 & Alphas & 4400 were all on what channel….SyFy.
The 4400 was on USA; although they are both owned by NBCUniversal.
i feel that way about anything on public tv. i dont expect any show on public tv to ever last for more than a season, so i stopped investing my time in them. right now, i just deal with netflix and very specific cable shows that dont have the FCC and politically correct buffoons ruining everything.
No surprise Fox dropped it. My hope was for S3 on Freeform and/or Hulu.
… maybe a crossover with Cloak & Dagger…
Cloak & Dagger is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Gifted isn’t even set in the Fox X-Men movie universe and definitely not in the MCU.
Cloak & dagger isn’t on the mcu,genius,don’t spread lies,lifeless troll,these are facts.
It is, there were references in both seasons.
Serena no it isn’t(in the season finale people vanished because of Andre not thanos, don’t spread lies like the other troll, these are facts.
It okay he thinks he is more intelligent than the people that were interview saying these shows were connect to mcu
Cloak and dagger were set in the same universe as mcu and other tv shows. Like runaways and agents of shield. What were you smoking making comments like that. A Google search could prove you wrong.
You are smoking & you are obviously as wrong as every other troll here, the things you search on google are wrong,I’m right in everything I say(plus this thread is from last year, get a life, loser) these are facts.
You are such an idiot. The sources come from mcu development team themselves. These shows are connected to the movies. You know nothing and so are just trolling. Try learning to use the internet before talking. The only shows not related to mcu were the shows not under their licensing agreement. I say this again do an internet search before you try to call someone out on your limited knowledge.
Christopher Marshall you’re an idiot, douchebag troll, not me,you are the one with no knowledge at all, nothing you say is true, idiotic loser, you’re obviously always wrong on everything you say,get laid & get a life, maricon mamabichos y hijo de puta, those shows aren’t with the mcu, dumbass, only agents of shield is part of the mcu, stop replying since you understand anything, retrasado mental, these are facts.
So hostile. What are 8 years old.
You know nothing about the thus topic. 100 people including the directors and producers could tell you differently and you still act like the child you are. You arent smarter then the producers directors, and the development team for both the tv shows and the movies. The shows and movies are all part of the same universe period. No matter what you say you are wrong period. There been several interviews done with the people in charge of mcu and tv shows cloak& dagger, agent of shield, and runaway are connected and so will be future disney+ shows.
There you go stereotyping people like the idiot you are,I’m an adult, not a child(but every children in the entire world are obviously smarter than you & your entire family & friends, same thing with any adults & teens)you’re an ignorant clown & an immature brainless prick who is always wrong on everything, the only series that’s part of the mcu is agents of shield, maricon mamabichos y hijo de puta, you’re so freaking dumb, your stupidity has no bounds/limits,besides this is an old post & everyone moved on,it doesn’t matter how much you whine & cry the gifted is done & gone, you obviously don’t have a life since you keep on trolling smart people on a year old post when you will obviously never meet me so your obsession with trying to beat a stranger shows that you need mental help inmediately, you need medication, you will obviously always be wrong on everything you say & do,stop wasting time trying to convince me of your nonsense cuz that will obviously never happen,so get a life, loser, these are facts.
Ew. We’re you dropped on the head as a baby, you ret@rd?
Go ew yourself, lifeless troll, you’re a ret@rd,obviously not me & you were dropped on your head, obviously not me, you’re disgusting, obviously not me,these are facts.
It’s literally called Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger. Don’t be such a D**k!
You’re a dick,lifeless troll,not me, these are facts.
Not surprised.
I’ve been saying for years I’m done with fox yet they keep dragging me back and then cancelling shows I love, I’m really done this time …… Fox just gets you’re hopes up the shoots you in the gut over and over
I was really hoping for another season of the gifted. Now I will never know what will have become of the gang of mutants
again this i why i hate when shows end on a cliffhanger when it might get cancelled, as they could’ve easily done a close ended conclusion where reva dies, where reed died and it was closed but no it left on a cliffhanger as just sucks
Not happy…but I figured this was coming. :(
Good riddance. This show was all about mutants preparing for a war. They never actually did something. I wont miss it.
Sad, but not at all surprising. And not even “Because Fox” for a change.
Sad news. I hope Hulu will save the show. I was excited to see what they were gonna do in Season 3.
Is the show produced by FOX? Maybe now that Disney owns a bunch of FOX things, the show can move to the Disney streaming service?
I doubt it. Disney and Marvel are going to want to clear out all the mutants so they can get their own x-men going in the mcu
Not gonna happen – it was likely cancelled (in addition to the ratings) because Disney bought out Fox, it doesn’t fit within the MCU and all the “X” stuff will disappear for the next 5 years until Marvel wants to use mutants. Disney would already own the producing elements surrounding the show as is, it was cancelled under Disney, not Fox.
The show was actually a Fox and Marvel TV co-production, as Fox had to negotiate about the X-Men TV rights with Marvel. It’s fully in Disney’s hands now, just as Legion.
Legion is ending after it’s upcoming third season, so shouldn’t be effected by the merger at all, as I believe it’s already been shot or is mostly shot.
What u crazy the gifted is one of the best shows out there we love it
It was trash!
Goddammit! I literally just finished season 2 and was looking forward to season 3, and then this happens! This sucks!
I’m not surprised, but still held some hope that since the storyline was only meant to last 3 TV seasons anyway, it would just pull through the chopping block unscathed. There were some decent actors scattered through the cast, but somehow, the show just never managed to attain unmissable status for me.
Good riddance. This show went nowhere fast.
Bucksnort! I’m really disappointed by this! :(
I don’t consider it a waste of time, as some here do. It was good while it lasted. Too bad it didn’t get to realize its full potential.
Too bad
I thought it might have some potential after they (finally) got rid of the p–y dad, they could have changed the focus to the more believable (and realistic) characters like Polaris, Andy, the mom, and the Frost sisters
Even Reeva – in her own way – was more compelling than the “we must abide by the Prime Directive mentality” a lot of characters had on the show.
Look, it’s great to be the good guy(s) , but when everyone is tryint to kill you, maybe you should get realistic about the overall situation (like the mom did).
The show was just starting to hit its stride.
Again, too late.
Disappointing but not surprising. It was a good show, but the ratings were on the low end this entire season. As much as I liked it I can’t really fault Fox here. The ratings just weren’t there. At least we got two seasons.
I still have all of season 2 still on my DVR. Does it end on a cliffhanger where I’ll be pissed or does it end sort of with closure?
It has a bit of closure
Emphasis on the word ” bit”.
I’d say it was more of a cliffhanger-ending. I really wanted to see more. I hate that it got cancelled.
it’s fine as long as you don’t watch the final 30 seconds when someone you think is dead literally appears out of nowhere and takes one of the characters to an apocalyptic future with the standard “We’ve got to stop this from happening” line
They closed the story line and the final scene set up what would be the season 3 storyline. So I do not really consider it a cliffhanger.
Disappointed but not surprised. But I’m hopeful for both the Passage and the Orville that these two shows were announced as cancelled today but those other two were not.
I’m sad, but this is not a surprise. Like everyone else, I guess, I wanted to see where Blink’s portal would bring them.
Well, everyone saw this coming. I wonder what this show could have been without the boring Strucker family. There was a lot of good in there. Oh well.
