When The Flash returns for Season 2 on Oct. 6, Barry Allen won’t be the only one running through Central City. In fact, the young hero will be joined by not one but three other speedsters, that we know of thus far!
So how does the CW series keep Barry’s story special and unique when there’s people zipping in from all sorts of places and timelines?
“We didn’t want Barry to get lonely so we thought we’d bring in some more speedsters,” executive producer Gabrielle Stanton tells TVLine. “It’s always Barry’s journey. The Flash is always about Barry, but these people who come in will show us different ways that The Flash can be.”
For starters, blast from the past Jay Garrick (played by Masters of Sex‘s Teddy Sears) — the first DC Comics character to take on the Flash persona — will represent “another version” of the scarlet speedster. “He’s going to be Barry’s mentor a little bit and help him really reach his potential” as the costumed superhero, Stanton previews.
Then there’s Wally West (Dance Academy‘s Keiynan Lonsdale), who in comics lore becomes the hero known as Kid Flash. Stanton is mum on how he will be introduced into the show, but hints at “a very interesting and close relationship” between the newbie, Barry and the rest of the team.
Not to be outdone by all the fast-moving heroes, Season 2’s Big Bad will also ramp up his speed. “Zoom is just scary as all hell,” Stanton says of the new nemesis. And although he may resemble Eobard Thawne upon first impression, Stanton promises there will be no mistaking him for Barry’s previous foe once he’s introduced.
“Zoom is going to be very different in terms of motivation, in terms of what he wants from The Flash, in terms of why he’s doing what he’s doing,” the EP teases. “I know a lot of people are thinking, ‘[Zoom and Reverse Flash] were so similar in the comics. What’s going to make them different?’ I guarantee no one will confuse him for one second with what we did last year. It’s actually much more different than people would think.”

No, not always. For a considerable amount of time it was Wally’s journey, and he surpassed Barry in many ways.
I believe he was referring to the TV show and not the comic book when he said The Flash is always about Barry’s journey.
That was pretty obvious yeah. Someone didn’t have their morning java maybe? LOL
He’s talking about the TV show. It will always be Barry’s story.
One never knows what might happen in the future.
Presumably the person running the show who is planning out the story does know? Or at least is the most in the know as you can get.
That’s true, one does not know what can happen in the future, but hey, stay on topic, we are talking about the present and the article a little bit up, what happens is that the article stated “THE SHOW is always about Barry” and you failed to catch that up, that’s what happened right here right now, do not try to deviate the attention of your fail by doing that, because no matter what happens on the future, it doesn’t change the fact that you didnt fully comprehend what you were reading, peace.
Barry is the main character in the tv show, that won’t change.
Anything can happen.
Flash as a concept is the proverbial legacy story. It is almost literally a relay race, with each speedster passing the baton to the next individual in line, from Jay to Barry, from Barry to Wally, from Wally to Bart, and so on and so forth with everyone else in between. To say that Flash is solely Barry’s story does that aspect of the concept a disservice, so to state absolutely that the show will only always be about Barry misses the whole point and scope of this tale.
“Flash as a concept is the proverbial legacy story.” should be “Flash as a concept is the quintessential legacy story.”.
Barry Allen has always been the most popular and most written about Flash. The new 52’s Flash (on which the you can say the show is loosely based) is Barry Allen. The TV show chose to give us the Barry Allen universe. They have done a great job on mashing up storylines from the comics and giving it their own spin, but it has been clear from the start, it’s about Barry and his journey. There is no “anything can happen” about that, nor will that change.
Well said :)
For some reason I think Wally is gonna be Barry & Iris’s son from a future time line or he exists because of all the time traveling and the black holes.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read the EP’s comment about the “interesting and close relationship.” Wally is Barry and Iris’s son from the alternate timeline, pulled in from the future by the black hole, the way I expect Jay Garrick’s Flash to be pulled from an alternate timeline.
So cool is it’s true! I can’t wait to find out.
An interesting and plausible suggestion, since they have already messed around with time travel
Ohh! I likez that theory!
Major error:
Professor Zoom & Eobard ThawneThawne(Reverse Flash) ARE the same person.
Zoom however is a different person (Hunter Zolomon)
When writing an article about comic books, some research is probably a good idea.
Thank you for the polite note, this error (made by me during edit) has been fixed with the speed of 1,000 gazelles. –Mgmt.
Thanks for the news, so excited for season 2! Glad to see the quote about it still being Barry’s journey, he’s my favorite character. I’m really curious to see Zoom now too, wonder if Tom Cavanagh is playing him.
What I’d like to know is if Tom Cavanagh is still on the show and how since Eobard reverted to his original face before getting sucked away?
Alternate timelines. There is still the timeline where he killed Cisco. If in that timeline he succeeds in being able to travel through time again, he’ll still look like Harrison Wells.
Is it October yet?
Reblogged this on Sawsan.
I have high hopes for season two of The Flash. The first season was excellent. I hope these writers are able to avoid a sophomore slump!
