As the pre-Upfronts cancellation bloodbath nears — the broadcast networks’ annual presentations of their upcoming seasons are slated for next week — ABC’s The Company You Keep is among 18 closely-watched bubble series awaiting their fate.
Season to date, the show is averaging 3.8 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). Out of the 10 dramas that ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 9 in audience (outdrawing only A Million Little Things‘ farewell run) and ties fellow freshman Alaska Daily for last in the demo.
With no word yet on The Company You Keep‘s future, the May 7 (season? series?) finale wrapped up several storylines while also setting the stage for a potential second season with a couple twists. After realizing the CIA is tailing her because she’s gotten close to something big, Emma took some personal days to recover from her brother’s accident and pretended to spend them with her boyfriend Charlie. In actuality, she, Charlie and Daphne formed an unlikely alliance to take down the Maguires. Of course, their mission got complicated: Daphne wanted to keep the money they were going to recover, while Emma and Charlie’s feelings for each other led them to spend the night together. In the end, the trio were able to bring down Patrick Maguire, who was shot to death by the FBI, after which Daphne walked away from the scene.
Later, Emma told Charlie she loves him and tried to convince him that the two of them should continue being together and working together. Charlie returned her feelings, but he didn’t think love was enough when they’re on opposite sides of the line. So the pair essentially went their separate ways, with Emma quitting the CIA to start a covert unit (funded by Patrick’s money!) to expose the agency’s dirty dealings, and Charlie teaming with Birdie to level the playing field for everyone like them. As the finale came to a close, Charlie and Emma met up at a bar and flirted as he slipped her info about a money launderer with CIA ties. Then Emma suggested there isn’t any reason they can’t meet up for a drink from time to time.
But the biggest twist of the episode involved Emma’s brother, David, whose girlfriend was revealed to be up to something shady. While in her hospital bed, she got a call from her mom, the two of them speaking Russian about how well she handled David and that the real work starts now.
The Company You Keep fans, did that finale leave you intrigued enough to want a Season 2? Hit the comments with your thoughts and keep a close eye on TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard for the latest on the show’s fate!
Yes yes yes please! I loved this show and would really like a season 2!
Of course yes.
I hope for more stories with these amazing actors.
I’m on the fence. I really like Emma and Charlie, but their righteous families drag the whole show down. (Aside from the Maguires — they were at least interesting.)
But if they could shift the focus to that rogue CIA trio — with Charlie, and maybe even Birdie and Daphne — I’d give it another try.
The show was a bit rocky in the beginning, rushing Charlie and Emma’s relationship and then having them find out about each other’s real occupations, but it ended up being well done! I loved Charlie’s family and I liked the balance between showing their cons, Emma’s job, and the romance. I think that’s a lot of things to balance and they did a great job!
I think season 2 would be even better now that all the secrets are in the open, and with Emma not with the CIA anymore, that opens a lot of possibilities. Please ABC, renew for season 2!!!
Please dont get cancelled.. I want a season 2 <3
It has so much potential with more missions, cons , heists and stories with the characters.. maybe some epic new characters to join.
I like the Company we keep. But i love everything about Alaska Daily.
Agreed!!
Keep Alaska Daily!!
I really liked Charlie and his whole family (fichner is great!) and I almost liked his dynamic better with Daphne rather than Emma—her extremely wide eyed look just made her hard to take seriously. Daphne would be great at conning folks. Stuff was a bit too easy—like duplicating the necklace in 3days?—but since I binged it all I was really taken with the show. More Milo is good!
Good show, fun and not taxing to watch, and yes, William Fichner is one of our best actors and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.
This is a Great show. Every time a great show comes on it gets cancelled after the first season. Please stop and let it work to a season 2 than if it doesn’t work out release it. “The Company You Keep”. Great Television Show.
Keep Alaska Daily instead!
THIS ^^^^^!!!!
Airing it on Sunday nights kind of put it in the cross hairs for cancelation. I love the show and hope it continues.
I’ve loved this show, and I really hope it — and Alaska Daily — get more seasons.
Please!
Yes, more Alaska Daily !
I hope and hope there is a Seaon Two !!!!!!!! I loved the show, every aspect.
I really enjoyed The Company You Keep! So very good! I hope it comes back!
Very enjoyable show with appealing actors-it’s not as if there are too many shows like that, hoping for a second season
Meh. Watched the first couple episodes, then lost interest. I like Milo but not this. I am a huge Alaska Daily fan and would love to see it on a better night.
Totally agree about Alaska Daily!
Love it. Hope it is renewed!!
Totally agree with you. Love Milo, but not in this show. No believable chemistry between Charlie and Emma. Didn’t think it was written well. Loved Alaska Daily. Really done well.
I found The Company You Keep to be one of the best new shows this season! There must be a Season 2!
A second season, please!!
Second season is a must!!
Yes, bring it back for a second season! It has a great cast.
Terrific Show. Slick storyline and excellent acting/casting. Please renew … but put it on another night. Sunday night at 10 PM ( Eastern Time) is terrible positioning. The two main characters have the right chemistry to make this show continue to succeed.
Hard fail on many levels.
The show started a little slowly for me, but it grew on me, and I was loving it by the end. If it comes back for season 2, I’ll definitely be back.
Crossing my fingers for renewal of TCYK! Luv whole Nicoletti clan! Nvr saw betrayal of David by gf coming. Daphne character is intriguing & highly entertaining. Not sure yet if she -or Emma- should be with Charlie
Definitely renew it! Great cast. Fun ride. Move it to a weeknight.
Okay, love this show and Alaska Daily so keep both shows. TCYK is a lot of fun and does have great acting and writing and the cons are always so enjoyable to watch
