The clock has been ticking all season on The 100, and before Wednesday’s finale (The CW, 9/8c) comes to a close, it will have finally stopped.
“I knew right away that this is where it was going,” executive producer Jason Rothenberg tells TVLine. “It was about removing every other obstacle, every other choice, in [the characters’] path and presenting this almost suicidal, crazy attempt to go to space to get above the [death wave]. I love sci-fi, and this show really does live in a sci-fi world, so I wanted to find a way to reincorporate space into the story — at least for a little while. And now, going back to space is their only option.”
In the midst of the chaos is an action sequence Rothenberg is particularly — and rightfully — proud of. Let’s just say it involves… someone… climbing… something.
“It took a couple of days to shoot that,” he says of the scene (that I’ve promised not to totally spoil). “Our visual effects team really outdid themselves. I finally watched it myself with the full effects a few days ago and believed almost every moment. … Plus, it miraculously snowed and stuck for a couple of weeks, which added a cool nuclear winter vibe to the whole episode. That was really lucky.”
But the episode isn’t all doom and gloom. The hectic hour begins with a beautiful moment between the Blake siblings, something fans have been waiting for all season — perhaps longer.
“This season, in many ways, was about Bellamy being able to let go and recognize that his sister is her own woman and that she doesn’t necessarily need him to be his sister’s keeper anymore,” Rothenberg explains. “For Octavia to realize how much she does love him is really cool, as these are now two people who are almost talking to each other for the first time as equals. It’s an important jumping-off point for the episode.”

I know – Jaha gets booted from the bunker, makes it to the island and rocket and gets floated!
Yesss Blake sibling love! Can’t wait.
Hopefully there’s a time jump into the 5 year, I want to see the earth after those 5 years. Plus next season would be amazing going back and forth with flash back of what everyone did in those 5 years
Flashbacks would be interesting because I’m in two minds about a time jump. I mean, they’ll have to do it eventually but there’s so much to explore first. The political system in the bunker would be fascinating. Like, how will they punish people? Will there be a power struggle? How will they handle the kinds of situations they need Raven for? I also wouldn’t mind seeing the early days of the crew in space. I’d like a tiny time jump (6 months max) and then save the big five year one for halfway through the next season. Or the end of next season, but I’m not sure how great it would be if they kept so many of the characters separated for such a long period of time.
I feel like this season’s been pretty low on major deaths so I suspect they are saving a big one til the end. Like, they are tricking us into thinking that they’re playing it safe then BAM! I love Bellamy and he’s one of my favourites but I think it would be a really neat way to end his redemption arc by having sacrifice himself for the others. Raven would be so upsetting and gut wrenching (particularly for me because I relate to her disability story) so that would be an exciting and emotional death also. I just want to be blown away by a shocking death like in the old days with Wells or Finn. My absolute fave right now is Octavia so I hope she dies also. Not being sarcastic, just embracing the high-stakes fabric of the show.
omg I wouldn’t be so upset if Bellamy, Octavia, or Raven died. I was furious when they killed Lincoln. and although I didn’t like the storyline, I was upset with the death of Jasper.
I MEAN I WOULD BE UPSET
I would be too but that’s what I love about the show. It really messes with your emotions and shows how death can be so random and unceremonious. Of course it would be sad, but if it means another high-stakes emotional rollercoaster, then I’m definitely on board!
Who cares. Our characters died so yours should too. They all need to die. BURN BURN BURN come on lets see them all get killed off!!!!!!!!
sounds like you need a hug
Rothenberg will never kill Octavia or Bellamy. He will kill Clarke first, which makes me crazy! 😡
Ooooh! That would be exciting too! And totally daring!
Doubt it though. If she dies, it will probs be a fakeout/cliffhanger for next year. As frustrating as she can be, Clarke is the glue that holds the show together. I can’t even imagine it without her! I mean, she’s the show.
Clarke is not dying. She is not going to space look at the previews. She is waiting for the rocket to land, There is no snow on the ground and she looks a lot older.
Clarke isn’t dying because it’s fake. She should die though. She doesn’t look older…that’s Eliza Taylor’s natural face. She’s nearly 30. I think moving on from this show would be good for her so I don’t care who dies, I vote for everyone to die.
Jasper just died a couple of episodes ago. That’s pretty major. Not to mention the episode before that being a literal bloodbath. Death as a mode of moving the story along, becomes somewhat numbing. Eventually it loses all sensation. The 100 has started to reach that point of over indulgence. And who watches a show to get some sort of high off of watching the characters they like die? That’s bizarre. There’s high stakes, and then there is absurdity. The show has to come back next year and tell a story. If you kill off everyone the audience has a rooted interest in, how do you pull them back? Of course, if you view them as nothing more than meat for the grinder, then I suppose it wouldn’t matter. I’m far more interested in their survival, then their funerals.
Well it’s too late they already did. As for the rest, I would rather characters I like dead than ruined, just look at Jasper for example. Now they ruined mostly everyone else too. I don’t care if it doesn’t come back, there is no more story to tell.
so nervous, not sure who is and isn’t going to make it through the finale
I’m hoping for a Clarke and Bellamy spark of romance.
You mean are hoping that the gay bashing continues.
YESS!! I was waiting for a spark since season 1!!
I love and hated how the season ended. I hated that Clarke and Bellamy are separated, but I love who she became without him. I hope for a Bellarke reunion, but the more I think about it, the more fearful I become that they will be happy for a time, then hate each other and I’m not sure I could watch that. I wouldn’t mind a Becho thing, as a fanfiction writer, I think there is some good material there, but she would have to understand Clarke is important too.
I was never a Clexa fan. I think true love sees you for who you are and loves you anyway,I would not mind her and Nylah, or even hold out hope that Roan survived and is with Clarke, but that’s probably not going to happen…
I love the idea of Clarke being a mom. I think it opens a whole new dialog into mother/daughter relationships, especially Clarke and Abby’s. I love that JRoth is taking the 100’s original stance and reversing the roles.
I cant wait for season 5. I wish I Didn’t have to wait until February, but this too shall pass. In the meantime, I will poor all my frustrations at those silly writers into writing and reading more fanfictions.
So, there you have it, in my own humble opinion.
Jason basically knows he made a mess of his show and the reboot is unoriginal because he got stuck in a hole and his only way out was to backtrack but at this stage it is just becoming lazy and ridiculous. And if you don’t like the idea of two women together you are watching the wrong show. Lexa and Clarke came together as leaders and their love was very deep and irreplaceable. Bellamy is quite toxic and xenophobic and I don’t like him. Clarke deserves the love of her life back. She loves Madi like a daughter because she likely sees Lexa in her, in fact the actress looks like a hybrid of them both, what a coincidence. She holds on to that and treasures that. Love isn’t friends with benefits sex, love is love and Clarke and Lexa were love.
I finished the season premiere. But will they continue?? And who is Maddie’s dad?? And where did the prison spacecraft thing come from?? Does Bellamy, Raven, Monty, Harper, and Echo return to earth?? Will Raven and Bellamy date? I can’t wait for season 5!! I hope Octavia and Nathan have a kid!
I AM SO CONFUSED!!! WHO IS MADDIE?? CLARKE’S DAUGHTER OR SOMEONE ELSE??
I think that the ship is the father of bellamy and bellamy is coming with another ship❤️❤️❤️
I love u all thnx for watching the 100 may we meet again❤️❤️
