Chad Michael Murray, Scott Patterson Return to The CW as Network Acquires Canadian Drama Sullivan’s Crossing
The CW’s 2023-24 TV season will feature two blasts from its past.
The network announced Wednesday that it has acquired Sullivan’s Crossing, the 10-episode Canadian drama that stars CW vets Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls). The series, which will make its debut this fall, also stars Morgan Kohan (When Hope Calls).
Based on the bestselling novel by Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing centers on Maggie Sullivan (Kohan), a renowned neurosurgeon who, per the XL logline, “seemingly has it all, until her business partner is indicted for fraud and she finds herself charged with negligence. Looking to distance herself from the fallout, Maggie decides to leave Boston and return to her childhood home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a rustic and remote campground set against the stunning coastline still run by her estranged father, Sully Sullivan (Patterson). There, Maggie rekindles old friendships and builds new ones with the local residents, including a handsome newcomer, Cal Jones (Murray), who only serves to complicate her life further. As Maggie works on clearing her name and reputation, she is forced to confront her painful past, as she attempts to reconnect with a side of herself she had long forgotten.”
In a statement, Brad Schwartz, president of The CW, said, “It is incredibly special to bring Chad and Scott back home to The CW.”
The CW of course is no stranger to low-cost international acquisitions, having given a U.S. home in past years to fare such as Coroner, Professionals, Leonardo, Devils and Family Law, and the soon-to-premiere The Rising and Barons. And the network surely will stay on that track under its new ownership, which has announced its plan to carry over only a precious few current scripted shows (here’s a rundown of CW shows still on the bubble).
Yet another variation on “attractive, young-ish female doctor/professional has a career and/or relationship crisis, retreats to small town/rural area (possibly where she grew up), gets fulfilling work while dealing with grizzled older boss/relative, meets troubled hunk, decides to stay a while.” It’s the basis of most Hallmark movies, not to mention past TV shows like and “Hart of Dixie” and “Virgin River.” At least this one looks like it has nice Canadian scenery.
The books that this series are based on are actually by the same author who wrote the virgin river books.
Just from the synopsis, it sounds like basically the same story, different location. I may watch … just for scenery. But I’m kinda meh …

It does and it’s so nice to see Nova Scotia where I used to live instead of British Columbia where so many of your shows are filmed. Scott Patterson is a lot balder but still as grumpy as in Gilmore girls. I wasn’t going to watch it but I’m quite enjoying it, especially without all the guns. It’s a nice change, a touch of grit and with lots of familiar faces and places.
I do enjoy watching some of the imported shows. However, I hope that when there are multiple seasons available, they show all of the episodes. I am afraid if it is not “popular” enough we will never get to see season 2. In that case why why watch season 1? (Please show more Family Law!)

They have started promoting Family Law coming soon on CTV so you should get it after that.
Is the Hallmark Mystery Channel going tto show sny more Mystery 101 episodes? Last one ended with a cliffhanger. This series has large following. Heard they filmeld more shows but Covid stopped everything. Any info for us ?
I read an interview or something literally last night that said there are no more coming according to Kristoffer Polaha and Jill Wagner. Didn’t she move to GAC?
I’m likely to pass on this just because of the network it’s associated with. Things are too topsy-turvy to commit to something that could get canceled or even pulled. If it makes it to three+ seasons then maybe I’ll binge it at some point.
I will never understand why most viewers are so fixated on whether a series lasts for one season or an abbreviated season or maybe just canceled after a few episodes. I begin watching a show because the premise, cast and/or location beacons to me. If something is abruptly canceled then that’s fine – I will have enjoyed what I saw up until that point. Not having a proper storyline resolution doesn’t bother me the slightest bit! I suspect the ‘binge mentality’ is to blame for how upset others can be. jmo
I was waiting to hear when Sullivan’s Crossing would come to the US. Seems fitting that The CW acquired this series especially since it has two CW alum in Scott and Chad
I don’t know. Doesn’t this sound like the plot from every Hallmark movie ever made? Complete with the Hallmark stable of generic actors….pass.
I am watching this (in Canada) currently on episode 7. It is actually a really good show. Nice to watch a wholesome show that has a bit of drama but overall a “nice” show to watch. And yes, I do like the high drama shows but this is just a nice change of pace. And of course the scenery is so lovely of our beautiful eastern coast.
Sullivan’s Crossing was such a beautiful show. Hopefully we’ll get to enjoy future episodes.
All of my friends are looking forward to seeing more episodes of this show.
