Shemar Moore is wasting no time celebrating S.W.A.T.‘s surprise un-cancellation.
Mere minutes after CBS officially confirmed that it had done an about-face and renewed the long-running procedural a 13-episode renewal for a seventh and final season (full story here), Moore took to social media late Monday to bask in the win.
“We did it S.W.A.T. fam!,” the actor wrote in an Instagram story. In a subsequent post, he added, “Thank you to all the fans for the continued and amazing support.”
It was just three days ago that Moore — who will be elevated to an exec producer for S.W.A.T. Season 7 — was on Instagram blasting CBS for cancelling the series, saying, “It makes no sense” and adding: “I don’t think we’re done. CBS is either gonna wake up and realize they made a mistake. Sony is gonna do their math and realize that this is not the right move.”
In announcing S.W.A.T.’s renewal on Monday, Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, and Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said in a statement, “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for S.W.A.T.and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year. S.W.A.T. has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following. We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which audiences deserve. Once again, we appreciate the talents and efforts of the cast, writers, producers and crew and everyone who has contributed to the success of S.W.A.T. We look forward to its return next season.”
Wonder if Shemar can get me out of jury duty…
Bahaha.. this is great!!
I was laughing at the Jury Duty comment. Best comment I’ve probably ever read 😊
S.W.A.T. should have remained canceled.
I agree. S.W.A.T. should have remained canceled. I am a fan of Shemar Moore and have been since his time on Criminal Minds but the racially motivated comment during the fourth from the last episode did it for me. I don’t care how many more seasons they make, I will no longer watch this show.
I have zero interest in shows that glorify guns so have rarely watched S.W.A.T. and therefore have no clue as to your reference regarding that particular plot point. I, too, have been a Shemar fan since his stint on a daytime soap but he’s always had a healthy ego and this cancelation reversal will only magnify that ego.
Hi Lisa, can you explain that a bit, thanks.
S4.E18
Why? Because he addresses racism and says it needs to end. He’s right. For a lot of people, it’s something they encounter every day, not talking about or confronting it head-on only allows those people who feel empowered by it to continue hurting people and making them feel uncomfortable in this country called America the Beautiful. When people look the other way or dismiss it, it means they’re complicit.
I agree. Almost everyone here who wanted it to be uncancelled was saying its great. I just dont see it. its boring as fk..every week the story was desame for years. supercops come to the rescue.. we are awesome … ughh
Full years episodes would have been better! With more years to come !
13 episodes
Too bad it was at the cost of East New York. Psst
Exactly right! I really enjoyed watching East NY and I was looking forward to ore of it!
Precisely. Why not leave ENY as SWAT’s replacement in the future line up? I enjoyed the show and was looking forward to the characters’ journeys. KMT.
Just wanted to say thank you for not canceling SWAT
I say thank you too! At least they can wrap story lines and know that the end is coming.
Love the cast and look forward to seeing more
I understand fans outrage and i hate when networks cancel long running shows, especially without a proper send off. No respect for the viewers at all.
I don’t watch this show but am happy for the fans who do.
I kinda hope they get rid of his character. While I understand his feelings about the cancellation what he did was very unprofessional and uncalled for especially because CBS most likely would have found a new role for him, they clearly love him, they’ve had him on a show almost constantly since the early 90s.
If the powers that be thought what he did was unprofessional and uncalled for they would’ve never uncanceled the show. Likable or not, plus you are reading what someone else claims he said.
There is always room for an extra copaganda show
We could have used Shemar over at the CW during last year’s bloodbath of shows. So many series there deserved a short renewal.
Happy for S.W.A.T
And instead of one show of crew members getting fired, it is now 2 shows of crew getting fired to save this one show that will still be cancelled next year. Great job!
It is possible one bubble show got canceled due to this, though unconfirmed. It is possible they were going to cancel ENY and True Lies regardless.
What I saw of true lies was dreadful, but I thought they were keying ENY as a replacement for Blue Bloods.
Hope that you will consider renewing it after season 7 as well.I absolutely Love S.W.A.T – it has fantastic cast and is action packed and also diverse. The story lines are brilliant so here is to hoping that we will hopefully see season 8 and 9 as well.Fans can atleast hope.Thank you CBS.
Thank god they saw sense, hurray.
I’m happy it is renewed and I want more seasons.
And we lost East NY in the trade. Would it not have made more sense to keep it as SWAT’s replacement in next year’s line-up, instead? However, someone explained to me that networks get tax breaks when they cancelled shows, so there’s that.
I am so glad that they decided to keep S.W.A.T on TV. Love that show.
Happy to hear the SWAT will return. There are several other programs that CBS could/should get rid as they are not interesting at all. Some of the cast members really do not their parts very well.
