Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy has given his last speech.
Vanessa Bayer, who has been a part of Saturday Night Live‘s cast for seven seasons, is exiting the NBC sketch series.
Tonight’s SNL season finale, hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with musical guest Katy Perry, will be Bayer’s last episode. She joins fellow veteran Bobby Moynihan, who is also departing SNL after nine seasons to star in CBS’ fall comedy Me, Myself & I. According to Deadline, who first reported the news, longtime cast member Kenan Thompson will be staying on the show.
Bayer bid a fond farewell to the series in an Instagram post on Saturday:

Among SNL‘s current female cast members, Bayer has the longest tenure, having joined the show back in 2010. She’s known for such characters as the aforementioned Jacob, Weekend Update child anchor Laura Parsons and, of course, her spot-on impression of Miley Cyrus.

She’s ok but her bar miztvah boy bit makes me change the channel.
Agree on Jacob, I’m always baffled why the continued to do it.
It seemed to work better when Seth Meyers was the straight man.
Not a surprise, I’d be more surprised if Keenan announced his departure. That said, I’m sure the SNL schedule doesn’t allow her to do as many movies as she wants to. I wonder if Bobby & Vanessa will get a fitting send off.
I hope so too
Guys, I’m sure she’d be flattered to know you think she’s somehow having to turn down that many movies on account of her schedule. She’s very talented and certainly deserves to be in a lot of films, but studios don’t just go ‘oh she’s really good’ and hire someone for their movie. If only that’s all it took, right? It’s undoubtedly limiting opportunities to have that schedule, but as much as we love so many of the SNL folks, they’re not having their doors beaten down with film role offers or at least offers for the kinds of parts that they couldn’t manage during an SNL break or over the summer–Kate McKinnon’s staying and she’s got a bigger film career going. Even well known film actors more likely to move box office are out there hustling but coming up empty. I doubt Vanessa’s got an edge on them, but she and Bobby are wonderful. People *should* be begging them to be in their movie or tv show. I hope they get to be back hosting SNL. Ninety minutes of either being featured? Yes please. I’m counting on Bobby being back for any David S. Pumpkins bit.
I never said people were begging Vanessa. I’m just saying it will allow her to do more.
I think the original poster more so meant her schedule may have disqualified specific roles she may have been interested in auditioning for. It would be a waste of time to audition for movie roles where the filming schedule conflicted with your regular gig.
Does this have anything to do with her role on Mike O’Brien’s show? I know she has a role in the pilot
No! I wanted to see more of the new WU Meteorologist!
Nooooo she is my favorite, especially Jacob!!! But where is she going?
Sad she’s leaving SNL too. Gonna miss her on the show so much. Looking forward on what she’ll do next in her career.
Really sad about the news that Vanessa Bayer is leaving SNL after tonight’s season finale now joining Bobby Moynihan. If Melissa Villasenor is staying, looks like there’s a chance she gets promoted as a repertory player.
usually the featured players get promoted after one season when there’s a mass exodus (like in the 2012 and 2013 seasons) so there’s no need to NOT promote them I mean the last time we had a season with no featured players was the 06-07 season
BUT WHAT ABOUT HER HUNGRY GUYS?!
Hope there’s an influx of new TALENT next fall. Aside from the Trump parodies, the rest of the show is garbage.
of course Keenan Thompson would stay, because he’s ALL THAT
To paraphrase Archie Bunker, he’s hangin’ onto that job like a Pope!
I think my favorite sketch of hers may be her recent one with Kristen Stewart. That Totinos bit was equal parts hilarious and sexy.
Kenan Thompson really needs to go because he’s an old war horse who’s been on the show too long past his experation date! I can’t believe Jay Pharoah left before Kenan did! Kenan will never be as funny as another long-running SNL alum, the late and hilarious Phil Hartman!
