Cuz not a lot of people are watching it. I think they should have done what they were originally gonna do, have it be the replacement for the original Once Upon a Time while they are on their winter hiatus. That would have been perfect, but either ABC didn’t have anything better or they got a little greedy, but either way the show suffered in the ratings because it’s too close to the original.
I agree that its nothing like the original but I don’t think its that much better. The CGI effects are still terrible and I really doubt OUATIW has much audience in common with the TBBT.
Seriously, the CGI is so bad. I mean goodness gracious. Between that and the not-very-intimidating-at-all villains, I really can’t love this show. I’m not going to stop watching it, but I wanted it to be better than this.
I had to recently stop watching both of the Once’s. I just couldnt handle the absurdity anymore. I loved the first season of OUAT, but since then its been a slow decline…
I guess I’ve just been a fan of sci-fi/fantasy shows generally for a long time, but I honestly have difficulty understanding why “terrible” CGI effects are important – especially given they are hardly terrible, simply often noticeable. They really aren’t THAT bad.
–
As for commmon audience with TBBT – when a show gets ratings that high, it has common audience with everything. But in particular, I think Once is a show that would have quite a significant cross over, being that its genre fare and TBBT appeals to genre fans.
Agreed! ABC was really dumb in that placement! I still dont understand why it couldn’t just have waitied for OUATs hiatus like originally planned. Sometimes I wonder if every year the pick shows, throw them in a hat and draw them out for new timeslots just because someone over there is bored and has nothing better to do then mess up the tv schedule.
Ok, ok so ABC made a mistake in the placement of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. So what guys nobody is perfect. It was definitely an error in judgment but, is is done and over with. Let’s go forward. I really would love to see it come back because I am anticipating the return of Cora as the Queen of Hearts. That actress is devilishly wonderful. Maybe the other characters could pick-up a few pointers when she shows up! Have a wonderful day, Mariana Vidal
I want to see once upon a time and once upon a time in wonderland , i use to tivo abc and dvr abc when i was @ work but now I am up set at who’s running the show now. 14 great shows I want to return, abc use to be so good I rarely looked @ cable abc had me . Sun thru Sat.
Castle, Greys Anatomy, Scandal, Betrayal-which was canceled, Nashville, Rookie Blue, Revenge,Suburgatory, The Neighbors, Modern Family, The Middle, Bachelor, DWTS……
The Goldbergs is boring, I read books when it on. I also love the soaps the took two of the good onee off. I love General Hospital. I hate cooking shows, I read books when they are on. But they do need them there are so many people that can’t cook now days.
I tried to watch the ONCE spin off , BUT , found the accents something that was not needed and that the production value was a shadow of the original,
It could have been a show that I watched, but for me its not even watchable
“the accents were not needed”. you do realize that these actors are actually British and they are talking in there native voices. i know the lead is Aussie but she grew up in England for a time so I think she’s doing a pretty good British accent. I’m an Aussie and when i was travelling around the US all i ever got asked was if i was from England and i do not sound British at all, so no offence but I don’t think you guys have a really good grasp of accents.
Anyway Alice in Wonderland is quintessentially British so I think its a good thing that they cast British actors and had then speak the way that is natural to them. They are all playing the parts really well in my opinion.
I would much rather hear a proper British accent then a god awful imitation.
A story set in England, featuring an English cast… you think that it’s not necessary for them to speak in an accent? That is heinously ridiculous, lol.
Joseph, I regret that you would allow something as charming as an accent to prevent you from enjoying this wonderful produccion. Don’t you realize that the accent contributes to the magic of this amazing show? The actors are outstanding and while the writing could be improved, the show is still very much worth watching! I wish you a wonderful day, Mariana Vidal
I didn’t keep watching, but it was not because of the accents. They were not fake. The actors were no American. Either way that is a silly reason to not watch a show.
I agree and think TV Line is a bit premature in “longshot” status. Needs time to develop – just started. I find Wonderland far superior to the current season of OUAT (bored senseless with Neverland and Pan already) I do agree putting Wonderland in the Thursday night slot has made it difficult for the new series to gain traction. Why didn’t they put it back to back with the original on Sunday?
Personally I’m glad they didn’t go back to back on Sunday, that would have put the final nail in that coffin. Wonderland would not fair against The Walking Dead. I like the show and feel that Michael Socha is brilliant as the Nave of Hearts
Kira, I totally agree that Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is an awesome show. The actors have given their best performance thus far. However, I could never say that the show is far superior to Once Upon a Time. There is simply no comparison. The characters in Once Upon a Time have won our affection, admiration and devotion; their performances are so complete that we care for the well-being of each and every one of them. Yes we love Rumple, Belle, Regina, Charming, Snow, Neil, Emma and the adorable little prince Henry. However, we do not think any less of the fairies, the dwarfs, Tiny the giant, Ruby/Red, her grandma, Cora, Hook, Pinochio, Mulan, Aurora, Prince Philip, Robin Hood, Ariel, Cinderella, The Magic Mirror//sydney, the Cricket, The Sheriff. In sum, every single character we have been priviledged to enjoy and I for one demand that each and every one of them get their happy ending. They were robbed of that happines by the antics of the beautiful and Evil Queen Regina.
Anyhow, I am sure you have noticed that I am totally fascinated by Once Upon A Time; the actors have done wonders with their respective characters. I trully cannot understand how you or anyone else could be “Bored senseless” with Neverland and Peter Pan. Robbie Kay was fantastic in the role. He practically stole the show from under everyone. I honestly did not think that anyone could outdo Mr. Carlisle. Robbie’s performance was so amazing that I wish the producers could find a way to keep the actor in the show. I hope you have a wonderful New Year! Mariana
I agree. I stopped watching because of the Neverland storyline. The Peter Pan character annoyed me. The actor was fine. For a second the Tinkerbell part caught my eye, but alas it was not enough. I will check back in to see what’s happening because I did like the show before. I don’t agree with the Sunday night for the spinoff though. This show I watched for all of 15 minutes before I deleted it from my DVR schedule. Just didn’t care for the girl and couldn’t imagine a whole season of that. Oh well. Different strokes! Enjoy :)
Well Jeff Once Upon a time in Wonderland is not a copy of the original. How can you say such a thing? There is no comparison. Once Upon a Time and all its wonderful characters is unique and nothing out there can compare with it.
I do agree with your assessment that OUATIW had some boring episodes and it took a while for it to get off the ground. However, The actors cannot be blamed for the mediocre material that they are forced to work with and the time slot did not do the show any favors. I believe that it is too early to tell and the show deserves another shot!
Anyway that is my opinion and you know how that is; everybody has one. Have a wonderful New Year, Mariana Vidal
Are you on crack? Wonderland is nowhere near as good as Once. I mean its ok, but the 2 best episodes they’ve shown have both been about Jaffar’s past, the rest have been mediocre at best. Once is way better
I am lobbying to keep and Don’t cancel Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. I find this show’s story line is action filled and filled with mystery in the story line
Good morning Susan, I agree Once Upon A Time In Wonderland is an awesome show and the producers should make an effort to keep it going instead of giving up so soon. Mariana
I can not under stand why there is not any comments about BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. I think that this is one of the best show on TV, the acting is great and the story line is great
I watch BatB and enjoy it. I can’t understand why watchers of Arrow aren’t watching it. It is just as good to me. I hope they don’t cancel it. Maybe the writers need to show some more of his pre-beast life like they do on Arrow; give a little more back-story. Who knows, it doesn’t make any sense to me. Both shows are good.
I agree with you 100%. I also love #batb. I think the change to Mondays really screwed everything up for live watching and the pairing to Hart of Dixie was off as HOD is a light comedy while BATB is a darker action both have a romantic aspect but the whole feel are complete opposites from each other. BATB did good on Thursdays paired with at TVD (more than a million viewers) but personally I think it would do quite great paired with Arrow or Supernatural as these shows are also darker action shows.
Yes, I really hope Beauty and the Beast gets renewed, despite it being “a long shot”. It’s a pretty unique and really enjoyable show. It’s a cop show, and a sci-fi drama, and a conspiracy type action show… it’s not all about the romance.
I also am hoping for Nashville’s renewal. I really love that show too. Very different but certainly it is enjoyable.
I absolutely love BatB and hope they don’t cancel it. It is the only show I wait anxiously for every week. The acting is great, the chemistry is amazing, the action is exciting, story is intriguing. Would be crushed if it gets canceled.
BATB is by far my favorite show, I absolutely love it. When it started out first I was so excited about watching it and Arrow. As it went along Batb became better and better until it became EPIC while to me Arrow, sadly, flunked so badly that it was hard to watch. What BATB needs is a good promoting, because still so many in US don’t watch the show because they think it’s a remake of the old BATB and for some strange reason that means this show must be bad. People are not even giving it a chance. Also it needs a better air time and not be first shown the day before in Canada, meaning just about every beastie has already watched it be the time it airs in US when there are so many other good shows to watch, why would they when they have already seen it the night before?! That means that the Nielsen rating is not showing the true count of audience. The way to measure ratings is outdated a long time ago and tv stations need to keep up with progress today and evolve along side it.
AND it won People’s Choice award, doesn’t that tell them anything. Once of the BEST casts on the air and very well written, the people i’ve turned on to this show cannot understand why it’s in jeopardy of being cancelled, so excellent
I cannot believe ratings are so important. I DVR all my shows and Beauty and the Beast is my favorite! I even ordered the DVDs from Season 1 so I could catch up. It is a great blend of CSI, cop show, relationships/romance (which by the way I’ve never seen a better pair to root for!). They won the Save One Show by a landslide. CW, please listen to your fans!
I agree great show just started watching and trying to find episodes 11 and 12 from season 2 I have hulu plus and they do 10 then 13. Great show compare to some other junk on tv and I was a fan of the old BATB.
I watched the original as a child back in the late 80’s… I was very happy when I heard it was being rebooted, until I realized who the main actress was. I never remember her name, but she was the reason why I stopped watching Smallville years ago… anyway. I can’t say whether the show is good or not, as I only watched the pilot and felt no desire to come back to it, but I do hope that those of you that enjoy it, do so as much as my sister and I loved watching back in 1987!
I love Beauty & The Beast I can’t believe CW is thinking of canceling, although why am I surprised the good shows just seem to disappear. Beauty & Arrow are my favorite Monday & Wednesday night shows. Please consider renewing Beauty & The Beast
I couldn’t agree with you more on everything but it being too close to the original. I wish they could make the effects better because I love that it is almost entirely set in Wonderland rather than the real world. I’m really not enjoying the original this season because it feels like they are dragging out this Pan story way too long and it last they’ve mainly been showing Emma’s disfunctional family bickering while wandering around in the woods.
I started watching Wonderland with high hopes and expectations, but quickly realized that I couldn’t warm to Alice at all, and if you dislike the heroine everything falls apart.
I agree with your opinion of Alice in OUATIWL. I love the original OUAT and had incredibly high expectations for the spinoff, unfortunately as soon as I saw who Alice was I wasn’t excited about the character at all. I don’t really like any of the characters other then the Queen of Hearts, but the fact that Alice isn’t really likeable, in my mind at least, kind of stopped the entire show in its tracks. I got through the first two episodes and decided not to torture myself just because I felt loyalty to the original OUAT. The CGI is terrible and I hate the way the White Rabbit looks, so unrealistic. Part of my resistance may be because Alice In Wonderland always weirded me out a bit…ok a lot, however I was willing to put the odd feeling I get from the story aside and give a valiant attempt at appreciating the show for what it was. Unfortunately the show falls flat and Alice isn’t the Alice I have hanging out in my mind. It could’ve been so much better. Won’t miss this show.
I agree about the Pan story. I’m getting sick of the story line. Move on But I would watch this and not the Wonderland one. It’s just copying the original.
As much as I like OUAT, I could barely handle 2 Wonderland episodes. I mean, the Red Queen is potential gold, I wouldn’t mind having her in the original show as a possible big baddie for a future season (example: finding out about Regina/Snow’s FTL and the real world, and wanting to take over?), but the rest of it is quite subpar, at least.
And I’m starting to think the mistake was doing standalone one-story spinoffs, and that the money’s on the story crossovers (as in, different stories from multiple sources mixing it up) of the original. Who knows, maybe they can pull it off with another standalone, but I don’t have my hopes up, tbh…
I love Dracula too. I love the actor he is so great, I loved him in The Tudors, when I found out he was the star I had to check it out. I’m glad I did, it is such a great show. Please don’t cancel it. There are too many other shows I got hooked on and are on the cusp.
I enjoyed the show, just wish the sets were not so unlit, it is hard to see what is going on and makes it hard to follow the sequence when you can’t see what is going on
Is there a way for fans of Betrayal to return for Season 2? I love this show and the actors/ actresses. The story like and how they play things out, along with more to tell. Please, don’t let them cancel Betrayal!!!
I too enjoy Betrayal. Doubt if it’s being renewed since the last episode was a perfect ending, not knowing who she was meeting. But I would watch a second season for sure. And finally, I have found two sit coms that actually make me laugh….About A Boy is wonderful and Trophy Wife has such a great cast. Just belatedly watched their Christmas episode. A laugh riot!
I love Betrayal and also hate to see it cancelled. We need to know if she survived or not and all sorts of things were coming to a head. How can they just leave us hanging like that? It is not right. I do agree that it had a lot of good actors in it. It was different and I really enjoyed it. Can’t we write someone or do anything to try and stop the cancellation? Would a petition help?
Not to a network like ABC. Money from advertisements matter to them. That comes from ratings. The decision has already been made, we just have to wait for upfronts in a few weeks. The only petition I can even think of ever working was the Tabasco for Roswell, but that was a different network and a different time.
Hello Lois, it sounds like a sad situation for beauty and beast. But unfortunately with all the other networks releasing new drama and suspence and horror or the like if you will its hard for a show lik b and b to compete when other shows tend to be a little more interesting to others but it is going to be horrible it gets cut.
thanks Rocky…..I know…Almost dies when B&B went off the air years ago with Linda Hamilton, and I like this one even more…LOL…anything about Dallas???….
Well Lois I have not been able to watch Dallas or Justified because of all the othe shows there’s not enough hours in the day or night to be able to watch them all. I have to sacrifice one or two of my faves to keep up on the ones I started watching years and years ago that are still going which is surprising to me like Criminal Minds CSI. I grew up watching dallas along time ago the original DALLAS I’m just surprised that Linda Grey is on this new series. She’s very disdain? Is that the word I’m looking for, in other words she’s a hardcore original from the old series if that makes sence. Sorry Lois Its not what you were looking for.
When you have it on a THURSDAY night i mean come one kinda stupid ! when you have Vdiaries on like what were they thinking.
No, it suffered in the ratings because it was 1) nothing like the original and 2) the demo sequence that got it picked up (the asylum sequence in ep. 1) had nothing to do with the rest of the series, and far exceeded it in quality.
Similar to X Factor. Speaking of, if X Factor does get cancelled because of brutal ratings maybe Simon Cowell would return to American Idol. The show is looking for some big ratings, and we all know that he likes to be the center of certain things. So let’s hope that X Factor’s (hopeful/probable) cancellation will lead to good things for American Idol, because they sure need something.
American idol needs to just go away now same with X factor and dancing with the stars, survivor, big bother, all the apprentice shows ect just my opinion, on this open forum for all opinion.
Amen Missy. Like we really need all those reality shows anyway. I wish they could all be cancelled, because my so called husband’s really obsessed and hooked on all those reality shows and wrestling and even hooked on the “chick” show Dracula!!
So I am with you on all those reality shows getting cancelled! What’s wrong with regular scripted shows like “Hawaii 5-0” or “Agents of Shield” or “Elementary” and so on like that.
I 100% AGREE!! The bachelor shows, Idol, big brother… blech!!! drive me nuts! i love the Voice, but why do their winners never seem to get kelly Clarkson/Carrie Underwood famous?
I tell you what I’ll be really angry about – If The mentalist, Elementary or M.A.O.S went away! I mean come on people isn’t it a breath of fresh air from the seemingly NEVERENDING copies of copies of original shows – Like NCIS & C.S.I? How many more cities were they going to attempt to put those in?!!?!? I’ll keep My Mentalist, Justified, Castle, HANNIBAL, The Americans… etc. i’ll quit boring others with titles of good shows now. Oooohhhh – wait…. Homeland!!! Damn! now there’s a show!
AI is a talent show more so than a reality show. It and especially So You Think You Can Dance, which has brought some of the most artistic and beautiful moments to the small screen, can stick around. The rest can go, especially any of the shows that bring out the worst in human nature. There’s room in the schedule for a few talent shows. As for why networks run so many reality shows, it’s because they are cheaper to produce and make money.
Singers from the Voice don’t get famous because it’s all about the judges, their celebrity friends and fan bases. I always see celebrities tweeting things like “I don’t watch the Voice but vote for so-and-so’s contestant.” AI voters watch the show and vote for who they like so it’s all about the contestant’s fan base. There’s a great many Voice voters who are fans of the judges or fans of friends of the judges and don’t care about the contestants so the winner doesn’t necessarily have a fan base. Also, the fact that AI successfully launched even a few careers at the height of its popularity was pretty exceptional. The more over saturated with singing competitions TV becomes the less likely someone is to skyrocket into fame.
I agree. I think they are dumb and never watch them. However, I have a 2nd cousin whose son is an editor on American Idol and America’s Got Talent. She would probably worry if he lost his jobs, lol.
Reality shows I like have to do with animals–The Incredible Dr. Pol, Whale Wars, Gator Boys, etc.
Much more entertaining for me. I watch nature shows a lot.
I love most of the reality show’s and Survivor is the BEST! My goodness, you wouldn’t believe the pools going on with bets on the winner and runner up in Survivor! I’m in 4 different pools now, and it makes watching Survivor so much fun. NEVER take that show off the air!! Amazing Race is great too, and love seeing the world along with the contestants! I love The Apprentice too, especially when they have some interesting personalities and ego’s playing for the winner. Amarosa, really shook the show up and loved her attitude…mean as it was!
Lost interest in Big Brother a long time ago as well as that stupid Batchelor. I look forward to Dancing with the Stars, but it’s more for the ladies, as the men I know groan when it’s on! American Idol has lost it’s ooph, and agree it can go. I still love America has Talent, which is fun to watch.
The sit coms are incredibly bad and an insult to our intelligence at times!
This is coming from a Senior and I think many of these shows are seniors favorites and we are the people who watch TV as we are the growing population of baby boomers!
Talk shows are so so, but I really liked The Jeff Probst show, in the morning, which really never got a chance to get out the kinks and find out what the viewers wanted, but it was coming along great and then it was done! He had a wonderful fun co host at the end that made the show so much fun to watch.
Other then these shows that I mentioned that I like, we just give up tryiing to find ANYTHING on TV that is interesting anymore! 20/20 is another good one I like and those type of newsy informative show. If not for these show’s we just turn the TV off and snuggle up with a good book!
Come on all you big NETWORKS…get with it and give us something good to watch. Netflix is going to knock you right off the air soon!
Ohh, and CNN is good but why does all the commentators have to YELL when they talk?
And….I like Piers Morgan and his “get at it” interviews. He doesn’t pussy foot around and ask the questions we want to know about. I’m sorry he’s not going to have his show anymore.
I never post on these forums, but had to put my 2 cents in on this one for what it’s worth!
Please keep these reality shows that are such favourites with so many people on the air! How do the Networks know what we like anyway??? Nobody ever asks us! Well…at least until now, but o they read them?????
So let me get this straight: You like reality shows because you like betting on them? Another example of the dumbing-down of America. You are exactly what is wrong with TV.
We have enough reality in our lives it’s time to move on. We want good shows we can get caught up in from week to week. The arrow, beauty and the beast, the tomorrow people, there is a lot of great show that we don’t have watch reality stuff all the time. And I am sorry but the bachelor is just pitiful. Away with reality and in with good weekly series. Keep us watching!
I agree absolutely, Missy-this reality garbage has to go! There is nothing “real” about any of it-the outcomes are pre-determined and the “drama” is overplayed to the point of being utterly ridiculous. I endorse the comment by Barbara below, but I’ll answer her rhetorical question anyway-what’s “wrong” with regular scripted shows is in the minds of the network “suits” who want to make millions on phony “reality” shows and don’t want to pay actual ACTORS as they do on normal scripted shows. It’s all about the networks raking in the big bucks for the cheapest expenditures, like dragging in a bunch of yuppie amateurs on something like “Survivor”, where they don’t need professional actors or writers (or anything approaching intelligence). It may be harsh, but it’s the truth.
I wish they’d get rid of ALL the “reality” shows. They aren’t reality anyway. Just a bunch of people making fools of themselves.
I hope that Hannibal and Teen Wolf stick around for along time.
As another senior I have no time at all for the reality shows. I’d rather watch actors playing their parts in different shows. I’ll agree that a lot of the sitcoms are unwatchable. The way the mother on The Millers is written made me shudder and give up in it. Crude is an understatement. A good actor in a good story are what I like. We all have our likes and dislikes but as I said, reality shows are the top of dislikes.
Right on! I despise reality TV and never watch any of their drivel. Keep actors employed and on scripted shows that have intelligent, professionals practicing their craft. Watching these so called
“actors” is a joke. We all know that these shows are also scripted. Only difference is that the amateurs performing are exactly that – amateurs. Maybe if these low class shows were not on the air, some quality shows would stay on instead of being canceled–shows like “Southland” , which was outstanding.
I tried the first episode of Wonderland and wanted to like it… but found it painfully bad. So many bad decisions went into that story and the result was… bafflingly bad.
It actually made me hesitate to watch the original OUaT. I cringe when thinking of that whole franchise now.
I find in general, some people rarely give shows a chance. So many pilots for shows aren’t that great or are just okay, but with time a show can improve. If after a few episodes and you still don’t like it, by all means don’t continue. That’s personally what I do. At least giving the show a chance to pull me in.
I didn’t think the OUATW pilot was amazing and I’ve learned to live with the OUAT CGI, but aside from the Red Queen I’ve been enjoying it so far. I don’t get all the hate for actress who plays Alice. My favorite character is the Knave.
“So many bad decisions went into that story and the result was… bafflingly bad” –> Your making a big judgment based on one episode and 42 min of storytelling (not much!)
Also, even though you don’t really have to have watched the original before Wonderland, I definitely think it’s better to watch the mother show first before the spinoff.
Hi abz, that couldn’t be further from true. People do give shows in general a chance. However, spin offs are judged more harshly because they aren’t “new” per se. they are judged based off how well the original show was. Sometimes it works, sometimes spin-offs just can’t hold their own.
I agree. Too often they scrap a show before it has time to develop. And then those of us who started to watch are left with all sorts of loose ends. Hate That!! Makes me hesitate to watch anything new until I know it’s going to be around. And if enough people do that then new shows won’t get the audience they might deserve.
Oh, and the CGI. I get some things, like the mushrooms, are supposed to seem big an weird, almost fakey, but everything is like that. OUAT may use it less, but it’s much better than in a Wonderland.
Drew, I am sorry that you find Once Upon A Time so tormenting. You cringe just to think of the show(s)? For heaven’s sake, just change the channel and end your suffering. Mariana Vidal
OUAT Wonderland is a two dimensional show for small children–except for the scenes in the asylum, which are almost PG-13 in their intensity. The Red Queen is so over the top that she ruins the show, and Jaffar is also two dimensional, although I know it is not the actor’s fault, since I have seen him in other things. The Knave is superb, and Alice is very good. If the show gets better, it must’ve after the first 3-4 episodes, since that is as far as I managed to make it.
Every series that is fantastic seems to fall into the “Long Shot” category. I don’t know what game these networks are playing, but there’s something going on. They hide behind these stupid ratings that the viewers don’t know if they’re accurate or not. To me the ratings are a ploy to ax certain shows so they can put new ones in. I wonder what the reasoning is behind it all, but it’s not fair to the viewers who enjoy these “Long Shot” series and look forward to watching each week..
It makes me laugh when you compare t.v. shows to life. Don’t remember t.v. shows ever being dependent on ratings in the past that’s all I’m saying. I’m not whining – just voicing an opinion.
I am with you Dee. We all have a right to our opinion and opinions are not gold coins to be liked by everyone. That is what makes this world and particularly this country such a wonderful place to be in. We all enjoy or not enjoy whatver the producers present us with and the joy of it all is that we are free to choose what to watch or not to watch. There is plenty of beauty in all of our differences.
Can you all imagine how horrible it would be if all of us liked the same things? I wish for everyone a healthy and happy New Year. If we cannot get what we want, may we at least have what we need. Mariana Vidal
They always have been. We just didn’t have internet back in the day and spend time talking about ratings. That always happened behind closed doors. It wasn’t something viewers talked about. I think we were better off for it, too. Also, TV networks are in the business of making money. They make money from advertisers. Advertisers are interested in specific demographics. If a show isn’t hitting a desirable demographic and the production costs are too great, it’s gone. It’s always been that way. We just weren’t as informed about it as viewers.
It’s like when people say how much worse the world is today. It’s really not. We’re just more informed, and also older and less naive.
Better off for not discussing ratings back in the day, I mean. Nowadays I see too many people give up on shows or not bother to watch based on the ratings, which only makes things worse.
The reason is money. It’s actually costly to start new shows that may also go on to fail so they have to measure the performance of existing shows with the risk of replacing them. The ratings are accurate in so far as telling the advertisers who fund these shows what they want to know. There’s no conspiracy. If a show is really making money, it usually doesn’t get cancelled. The only exception I can think of is when an exec axed Angel even though it was one of the WB’s highest rated shows and the audience was even growing.
You know what happened to that exec?
He got fired.
You know what happened to the WB?
It no longer exists and Time Warner had to join forces with UPN to launch CW.
Right or wrong, everything comes down to money, but there’s nothing more sinister going on beyond that. The higher the production costs, the larger an audience a show needs to attain. Sometimes you will have a low rated show like Hannibal given another chance because it has lower production costs (despite looking expensive) and hits a key demo. Such shows have small audiences, but that particular audience is coveted by particular advertisers.
Fast food is garbage but opening a Mcdonalds franchise will always be less risky than opening a fine dining restaurant. TV is largely the same. People consume garbage in larger quantities. Sometimes the show equivalent of fine dining can do well, but the market share is much smaller.
Your right about Angel. And I’m afraid Agents of SHIELD is going to be yet another Joss Whedon show canceled before it’s time. All because it’s in a terrible time slot (running against NCIS) as well as having been delayed all because of The Bachelor. Are you kidding me?
I have been a Whedonite since 96 &loved everything he has made dearly….however SHIELD is rubbish. I am a comic reader too and I love Marvel so was so excited for it. But my god it is an awful awful show.
Gladly that is only one opinion , which didn’t seem to count. 😁 I happen to thoroughly enjoy Marvels Agents of Shield. Glad its still kicking in a world of great shows that are not.
Add Almost Human to the list of shows unfairly axed, in spite of good ratings. Some executive didn’t like it and aired the episodes out of order. Then they randomly messed with the schedule. When that didn’t kill the ratings, they axed it anyway, even though its final ratings were on par with those of The Following, FOX’s darling and “breakout hit.”
It was on Fox. If it’s not the Simpsons or Family Guy, they’ll cancel anything SciFi. I wish another channel would pick it up. The execs did the same thing with AH as they did with Firefly. Almost Human had great chemistry, casting and writing. Great show. Stupid Fox.
I totally enjoyed ‘Almost Human’ Everything about it was so entertaining . Isn’t that what TV is supposed to be? Entertaining? All these reality shows really are depressing. Plus, some “people” watch them and think that is the way people are supposed to be. Look around, and see them all diminishing everything, truly diminishing, especially in mentality. Please keep Almost Human which is purely entertaining and exciting. Nashville is another show never boring and always entertaining. It may be to some, just another soap opera, but it is always filled with wonderful voices and music. Very uplifting and value-filled(human values, that is)
I completely agree! Almost Human was such a great show, and Karl Urban and Lili Taylor were sooo good!! I also agree that some other network should consider picking this show up, the production and storyline were first rate!
Kind of bummed to see Crisis in the long shot category. I’m still not caught up and yes it is a little bit ridiculous but seriously – what show isn’t? It’s still entertaining and I do want to see when her daughter finds out who her real mother is.
OUATW is not at all what I thought it would be. I watched for about three weeks and have up. The original has me spoiled. I wouldn’t care if Wonderland left.
Actually I gave it a couple episodes and it just did not endear me like the Original. Wonderland s only one story. The original has a hodge podge of a lot of beloved characters and stories. Alice in wonderland is not the most endearing fairytale and it’s author was a pedophile. Plus I just do not like it. Why wonderland btw? There are much better stories the show could have used. I would have loved to see one about the Wizard of Oz! So many stories could have been told. The witches alone have stories and motives that could fill storylines for years!
I agree that once upon a time in Wonderland is awesome I get more excited watching that one than the original one. I love the original one too. and what the heck are the not sure about with revolution? It’s one of the best shows and beauty and the beast is a good show also and ya they are saying it’s a longshot. Does anyone know if they still get the ratings if we ever it instead of watching it Live?
I am absolutely devastated! I love once upon a time!!! Its amazing and the acting and actresses are great!!! I love Its a great addition to the series and I’m positive everyone at least in my town was loves to watch these kind of shows and will be very disappointed and will be expecting them to try again if we don’t get to keep this super fun show!!!!begging to reconsider stopping the show!!!
I agree! OUATIW is almost as good or maybe even as good as the original show. They are the only shows I watch on any of these networks. And also OUAT will almost certainly be renewed but obviously there is no official renewal yet because they will have to see how the second half of season 3 goes.
Also, as wonderful as Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is, the fact that all the heroes are teenagers probably deters a lot of adult viewers. I do like that the cast is so small though – there are literally 16 characters, major and minor, including all the bunnies. Well, not counting the nameless people of Wonderland and those guys who tried to rob Alice.
The ratings system just doesn’t work anymore, Since more people are not at home watching tv. Most have to make a living and can’t watch a scheduled shows. They either catch it on the internet or record it with their dvr’s which the ratings don’t see. The rating system is just a huge Fail. Plus not all homes count in the rating system while watching a show. Food for thought.
Actually if you DVR a show it is counted into the ratings. The internet traffic really can’t be helped but they do catch DVR traffic. For instance, Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most DVRed programs and those #s get added into their overall viewership. If they did not include DVR #s Greys might have been cancelled awhile ago.
The point was that if you do DVR something it does get picked up. My apologies I didn’t know this was a panel of experts and I was going to get chastised for my inappropriate comments.
Even without DVR Grey’s has some of the top ABC ratings.
Are you sure, Matt Webb Mitovich, that it’s only as a Nielsen Household? Because I’ve been wondering about that. I thought for a long time my TV or DVR watching wouldn’t count since I wasn’t a Nielson household. But then someone said all DVRs are tracked and I became unsure of what I’d thought was true.
I wish they would re(asses)s the way they keep track of watchers. I think everyone and everything should count. I want to count! They need to give shows more of a chance. I can’t understand why they are in such a damn hurry. I DVR everything and watch at my leisure. There are only a few shows I watch the same day or within 72 hrs: Justified, The Originals, Reign, Shameless, American Idol, The Voice. The rest I watch from the oldest to the newest by broadcast dates. I watch a lot of TV and I love my shows. I matter!
It is true, only those who are sent the Nielsen diary’s to fill out or are hooked up to their machines are counted in the ratings. I recently was chosen to fill one out for a week on all of my TV’s. They send you 5 dollars to fill out your week long tv watching diary. The nielsen is still the only way ratings are counted, so if you aren’t hooked up or filling something out, your tv watching is NOT being counted.
I forgot to say in my last post, I DVR everything as well, so when I filled out my Nielsen diary I had to put in the original time it was recorded and the time that I actually watched the program. That is how they counted my watched dvr recordings. Dvr’s do not count in the ratings at all, only the Nielsen. I think there needs to be a new way to get ratings, I think it is stupid that only a handful of people decide the fate of what is canceled or not.
I’m 100% with you on that! All they care about is the demographic though (sponsors) bcuz for some reason they think the 18-49(?) yr olds are the only ones that spend $ – yeah right. My 22 yr old does spend my 51 yr old money…so in some ways they are right but I make the decisions of worth so…whatever. I DVR everything and watch when I want. If they cancel I move on. Bunch of children making grown up decisions. Took me 2 seasons to get hooked on Castle and NCIS. Had to go buy the previous seasons bcuz reruns are too haphazard and I wanted to catch up. First time I saw NCIS was when the bullet went thru her head on the rooftop (love her as Dr. Isles!) – what a scene! Now it’s at the very top of my faves list. They really need to give these shows a better chance and market the hell out of them. IMHO.
Advertisers don’t care why someone isn’t watching. They also don’t necessarily care about those of us who don’t warrant inclusion in the ratings. Also, I don’t know that more people are outside the home now than ever before. These are prime time shows. I don’t think there’s been a huge increase in people working evening hours. If anything, people are home earlier than ever, and there’s more means of watching a show, which advertisers track to an increasing degree. It’s also a moot point since shows are judged according to the performance of other shows. It’s not like Big Bang viewers are more likely to be at home than whatever shows compete with Big Bang. I
Ratings aren’t an accurate measure of a show’s quality, but they work in terms of estimating market shares.
If you download online, it’s usually without commercials; And most people who DVR also skip commercials. So both are useless for networks who finance thses shows selling commercials.
I DVR almost every show I watch; sometimes I even record reruns while I am watching, just in case the phone rings, so I will not miss the end. AND, I actually pay closer attention to the commercials as I am FFWDing, so I don’t miss the return of the episode. During this focus on the ads, I do see more of them than if I leave the room (duh!). I have been known to stop the FFWD, back up and watch something that caught my attention. So, from my viewpoint, the advertisers get more of their money’s worth: I don’t need all those products, but I pay closer attention to the ones that would fit into my life.
I get to watch an hour-long show in 45 minutes (time-effective), I don’t have to sit through things that have no relevance at all to me, and I pay closer attention to the things that do.
Win-win-win.
Good point. Most of us now watch recorded material so taking ratings while the show is airing ‘live’ does not make sense. Just 20 years ago Cheers launched to mediocre ratings . But over the course of a few seasons they became the hit we all now know. If they had launched now they would never have stood a chance. Networks have to move with the times and recognize that we have changed our viewing habits. I can think of a number of shows that showed promise and were yanked too soon.
What I hear is that a lot of people didn’t like that Dracula added new and different stuff like Drac being undercover as an American industrialist and Lucy being hot for Mina, etc. Actually, the new stuff is what kept me interested, but a lot of people just want the same old stuff re-hashed forever.
My wife and I think Super fun night is a great show and different than the rest. We also love Last man standing because it is about time the right got a word in on T.V. You have to bring back Revenge or I will never get involved in a 1 hours series again. I am tired of them pulling the carpet out from under us after we get involved it a series like this so they can put on more STUPID cheaper to make reality shows!
Big YAY!! that Last Man Standing is renewed. And you don’t have to be a Conservative to enjoy it, We’re liberals but we love it (we can laugh at ourselves as well as at everything else. It’s so well-written and well-acted — and makes wonderful comments on everything from the too-much-importance on appearance to the political scene, to social commentary … Also glad Suits has been renewed. We’ve just started watching it via Netflix DVDs. Now that I know it’s a series on the USA network –though I hate having to wait a week maybe we’ll find it; I think we do get USA a well-acted and written series
This show is horrible! I tried watching several episodes and it just could not keep my families attention! Please pick up a show like “Army Wives”! Maybe then my family will watch your network again! :-\
Says who? My family hates the show! This network will be gone soon! Too Bad! You need to Cancel the stupid Reality shows, and put something on like Army Wives!
There was talk when it first came out that it would only run for a limited amount of episodes while it told the story. The exact number of these episodes was never specified.
Yeah why is Once Upon a wonderland Is a long shot. Thats a good show!! Dont take it off the air. Why do you folks do that! Put something good on than take it off.
NOOO!!! YOU CANT GET RID OF SUPER FUN NIGHT!!! ITS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! If you want something to get rid of just go look at Cartoon Network and Disney Channel, you could honestly get rid of almost all of the shows on those channels, the content is crap! For example: uncle grandpa, I didn’t do it, bread winners.
REQUEST: please don’t take away Almost Human and Super Fun Night! They are great high quality shows, which is hard to find these days. If they aren’t getting you the ratings you need, just give them one more season (at least). I promise you, they will catch on! They would be hits if you just gave them a chance.
Same reason Star Crossed is a long shot, because they have too many reality shows, etc. I am a disabled older woman and all I have is tv and I LOVE Star Crossed and OUAT so its not just for the young!! Us young at heart love it too!!! Please save this show!!!
I totally agree, good shows are being cancelled so those stupid reality shows can stay on, its not fair to the viewers. I love star-crossed, Dracula, Intelligence, and I really liked almost human it was one of the few tv shows me and my 16 year old daughter watched together now its been cancelled. The big wigs are going to do what they are gonna do, nothing we can do but either be ready for disappointment or stop watching their channels.
Complex characters maneuvering through brilliantly crafted story lines deliciously accentuated by amazing visuals, Hannibal is a show for those who love suspense/thrillers. I hope it not only gets renewed but sticks around for a couple more seasons.
It was always intended to be a 1 season series leading Knave into the next season of OUAT. So it shouldnt even say ‘Cancelled’ it should say Completed just like how I met your mother says. They did consider that if Wonderland got as good of ratings as the original OUAT then they would consider a season 2.
Yes Michael, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland is a fairy tale and a wonderful one at that. You indicate that you don’t care for fairy tales anymore but generally that is what television shows are all about, pure entertainment to distract us from the stress and hassle of everyday life. The fact that a show is a fairy tale and another one is not, makes little difference because they both manage to capture the attention of the viewers to some degree; due to superb acting and the quality of the story. Take Bones for instance, the season finale left me shocked and I cannot wait for the show to return to see what happens to these wonderful characters.
Anyhow I will leave you hoping that you have a wonderful and productive day, Mariana
I agree with this. I really like Reign. I know there are people who are whining about it not being accurate, but the Tudors wasn’t accurate either. It’s meant to be fun, and I like it a lot.
I love the show as well, but I also have complained about this show (though not whined). While yes, I acknowledge that it is a work of fiction, thus granting itself all the freedom with historical accuracy it wants in the story, it is “worse” than the Tudors in accuracy not so much in the attention to correct history representation, which the Tudors were also quite liberal with, but the attention to other details. These include grave faults in costumes, make-up, hair-dos and settings. So I do understand if people “whine” about these inaccuracies, because many of these could easily be avoided or at least their frequency scaled down.
However, as stated in the beginning, I love the show and am able to simply look over all of these and watch the show for what it gives me, an enjoyable period drama, that when taken as historical fiction is a highly entertaining show.
This is The CW, the true period clothing of that time would NOT fall in line with their branding. Nor would it be very sexy. Reign is more Ren-Faire than anything. LOL. Love the show though. It’s way way way better than I thought it would be.
As a fan of both The Tudors and Reign, I can say The Tudors was 90% accurate. It told the story of King Henry, his many wives, his affairs, his children, and him as a ruler. The way he and everyone else looked may have been for our sakes, because no one wants to see a 300 plus man as king we want someone who looks like Johnathan Meyers on our screens, as well as a few other inaccuracies. But it gave the history it’s justice. Other wise Anne Boylen and Henry would have stayed together, or Jane Seymour would have lived to raise her son. With Reign, which is beautifully shot, great acting from the cast, and loveable characters, I think it’s about 10% accurate. Mary and Francis did get married, but Francis was younger than Mary and died early. Mary was never interested in his bastard brother. There was no mysterious creatures lurking in the castles walls etc. So I can see why people are complaining about Reign. But it should not be cancelled because it’s bloody good.
Yes please!! I had no intention of even watching but saw it On Demand and had nothing else to watch so I gave it a try. I’m in love with it!! It’s one of the few shows I watch almost live (always 15 minutes in, I can’t tolerate commercials)
Reign has really surprised me! its a show I would actually stay up and watch! unfortunately in Columbus where i live the CW has been showing high school football on Thursdays so TVD is on at 10pm and Reign isn’t on until 11pm which is wayyyy too late for me. i can’t wait until this week it’ll be at 9 for me :)
Yeah what’s up with High School football being shown on Not only the CW’s biggest Night but also during Prime time?? Why can’t they show High school football on a Friday night? I have complained & complained, as well as suggested the network show H.S.Football on a different night or in a new time slot.
PLEASE, PLEASE NO High School Football games during PrimeTime!!
idk im more of a law and order grimm and sleppy hollow my brother loves these shows that I just listed but he likes reign and vampire diaries so idk what he thinks
Very good show. I love how they incorporate modern music. In one episode (I believe at Lola’s wedding) they had ‘Royals’ by Lorde playing in the background, but it was with an orchestra not the original.
I love tv shows like Merlin that spin from classic stories. Reign has all those elements but more dramatic, realistic, and adult.
Plus some pretty great actors.
Adelaide Kane (Mary) from Power Rangers RPM and Teen Wolf
Toby Regbo (Francis) who was Young Dumbledore in Harry Potter 7p1
Megan Follows (Queen Catherine) who has been acting since the 70’s and has been in numerous shows.
Torrance Coombs (Sebastian) From Tudors and End Game
Anna Popplewell (Lola) from FREAKING NARNIA!! <3
Alan Van Sprang (King Henry II) The Tudors and Saw3
etc
Such a good show. Needs to have at least 4 seasons.
CBS=Good Wife has gotta come back. With the Red John plot ending shortly The Mentalist going off the air wouldn’t be the worst thing. I like the show, but if it came down to one or the other I vote for Good Wife.
FOX=X Factor needs to be gone. It’s really not good at all. It’s Year 3 and they still don’t/didn’t have a clue how to run the show.
ABC=Revenge coming back would be great. I think the tone of Season 3 is far superior to the mess of Season 2.
NBC=Eh…I don’t watch too much NBC other than Community and who knows with that show.
I LOVE the, “Mentalist” & must have “Person of Interest”!! I’d also watch anything with Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar!! I also love, “The Crazy Ones” These are a MUST HAVE!!!
My favourite show. Love it more than NCIS or TGW though I watch NCIS all the time. TGW sometimes. NEVER miss The Mentalist. We definitely need another season with Patrick Jane and Lisbon.
I find the Mentalist very boring now. It has changed a lot. I love the character Patrick Jane, just do not like the new people and the new avenue they took. Yes, I got very tired of the Red John story line but they did not have to scatter everyone. Not the same anymore. I have no desire to watch anymore. I tape it and then scan through it. Too bad the writers ruined this very good show.
I enjoy watching the Mentalist every week, the red john went on way too long, the writers don’t seem to have many varities tho. I agree the flavor of the cast was better before. Now they all appear to be flat and a smile may make some of their faces crack. I still love Patrick Jane character and seems like he is the only one having a good time. No reason the characters now have to act so bland
Person of Interest is one of the absolute best shows on television. If it gets cancelled a year after Fringe was axed…I’m going to have to go back to reading books and give up on TV all together.
Agree – Person of Interest is a wonderful series and so very interesting. If it gets cancelled, then there’s something going on that’s not right. Just when fans get interested in these wonderful shows, they get cancelled. It’s not fair to the viewers.
I love the Mentalist & am seriously sick of Good Wife running into the Mentalist episodes and screwing with my DVR!!!! This is probably why it is in jeopardy in the first place- because you can’t even watch it when it’s supposed to be on!
I like The Mentalist. I did not read anything in the TV Guide about it going off the air.
Most probably after they solve the Red John story, there would be weekly episodes on
different cases.
I also like Bones. My husband and I have been watching it since it first started on Fox (channel 5) 9 years ago.
We are so glad Bones and Booth finally got married. We hope that Bones is around
for more years to come.
i’ve set my dvr to record an hour past the show’s normal time so that if it does run over, I have it recorded. BUT YES IT”S SO ANNOYING. Although it’s not The Good Wife’s fault. It’s whatever sports game aired right before the Good Wife.
Agree 100%. THE MENTALIST IS A wonderful show .What is the real reason Heller & CBS don’t seem to care about it? The Red John story line was the most exciting in years, but even episodes not about RJ are very entertaining. I hope it stays on another season or ten. I just think there are so many directions it can take. Love Simon Baker, but the entire cast and guest stars are terrific too!
Try setting the dvr for both good wife and mentalist for 1-2 hrs past the scheduled end. That way if a game runs late or whatever you’ve still got all the show. If there’s no problem you have them both on one record.
I solved the late-start, “cutting off the show early” problem by simply setting the DVR to record for two hours after The Good Wife. That way I get ALL of both shows, even if there is a 45 minute late start. I can then watch them at my leisure, confident that I will get to see the beginning and end of both of them with no interruptions.
It annoys me to have to tie up 3 hours of DVR time, but it does get the job done. I just can’t save one or the other to watch again without keeping both.
I really don’t know why the network can’t automatically set the schedule to allow for game time overruns. I have asked this in a dozen different places, but they still don’t seem to grasp the concept of building in a flex-time talking heads sports show to fill the space after the game until 60 minutes starts at 7:00CST (NOT 6:00), then The Good Wife at 8:00 and The Mentalist at 9:00 (you noticed I just eliminated that stupid reality show, right?) They could still air the Amazing Race, but start it at 10:30 after the news.
The trick in doing that is to make sure the talking heads STOP talking at 7:00…There were a few occasions that they did try to make time for overtimes by setting 60 Minutes at 6:30, but even with THAT buffer, everything started almost 20 minutes late!
CBS needs a new programmer who understands and CARES about the viewers’ needs. But, like Congress, money is the priority and we really don’t count! (sorry, I couldn’t help that snarky comment)
Maybe if enough of us posted the “new and improved” football-season schedule on their FB page, we could make an impact…
What the problem is, is the time zones. When The Mentalist is over here in Oregon, it’s 11. Which is when the News comes on until 1135 then the late shows start.
You can set your DVR to record about an hour past the normal end time for a show. I do this all the time for the Mentalist because of the aforementioned problem.
Oh. I am so glad to see someone agrees with me. I watch The Good Wife but if I happen to miss it it doesn’t bother me. On the other hand no way will I miss The Mentalist. Thank goodness being in Western Canada I can watch and DVR it on an Eastern Canada channel at 7 o’clock. . However I still check my CBS site to see it again. Great show. How come I’ve seen it on one site as renewed but not here?
“The Mentalist,” my all-time favorite show…BUT, “The Good Wife” is simply the the finest written show ever! This past Sunday’s 100th episode should be put in a time capsule. It was THAT good!
I disagree!!!!! Me ? I have to have my Jane, Lisbon, Cho and the whole gang. I also want Revenge.I got totally Pissed off when CBS took off my CSI: MIAMI and my CSI: NY . They took that off without warning, and NBC did the same with Ghost Whisper(saying season 6th finale) & it ended being the series finale. I also have to have my DWTS, Revolution, Sleepy Hollow,Following. Gots to have my Hawiia 5’o. I’ve just got so much that I like to an almost love issue with some shows.I just can’t write them all down.
um the good wife is coming back they haven’t aird the season finale yet so its back they will never get rid of the good wife cause the show is coming back on air
I personally would love to see the Good Wife go away and the Mentalist put in it’s place. It’s a much better written show and the actors are so much better. There are more twists in the story line. Who can watch a bunch of legal beagles go through the same stuff every week.
Kodirules, there are plenty of people who enjoy the Good Wife. Legal Beagles can be very interesting at times and the actors in this show certainly are. I disagree with your assesment about the cast’s acting ability. Eveyone does as good as possible with the material at hand. Although I love the Mentalist, you have to agree that the Red John premise is getting really old and we need some fresh material. I believe that neither show should go away, they just need different storylines to keep our interest.
Anyhow that is my opinion and I thank everyone for reading it, Mariana Vidal
Good wife was excellent for the first few series. Then they ran out of plots leaving us with a bunch of irritating mother characters. Last season it circled the drain. Now it’s not even in the trap under sink. All it it needs is that day time soap music overdubbing the dialog. … Be humane CBS, Please someone over there put us (and the cast) out of it’s misery.
i want to share my testimony to every one After being in a relationship with my boyfriend for five years,he broke up with me,I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 5pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. Contact him now for your relationship or marriage problems or any DISEASE via this email drisaachelpcenter@gmail He’s going to solve your problem for you have faith
The Mentalist is still a great show, I like the new direction it’s taking. The problem is the time slot they’re always changing the time or canceling for sports, which sucks. If they put it on during the week or stopped pre-empting it the ratings would be a lot better.
That nasty trick of changing days, pre=empting and changing airtime is what they do when they want a good excuse to drop a show “Well, we’d keep it, but the ratings just don’t justify it.” They did it to CSI:Miami and CSI:NY, too. It shows a total disregard for the fans that we, the fans, can’t do anything about.
They moved Bones to Fridays, thinking that would work, but it bit ’em and Bones is now back on Mondays. Maybe The Mentalist will get to move back to mid-week also…if they count the DVR numbers, maybe it will.
Kinda bummed because of the CBS news – Good Wife is probably the best TV show on TV right now, and while I’m not the biggest Mentalist fan, this show is great and so much better than the last one. Renewal of these two was a sure thing for me.
Fingers crossed for Parks and Rec – probably my favorite comedy of all time. Can’t cancel it before it gets the recognition it deserves, right?
I agree about The Mentalist & TGW. Wish they had a better time which causes them problems but my Sunday evening (or a better evening) would not be the same without both of them. 👍👍
Football keeps messing with TGW and THE MENTALIST’s time slots. Sometimes they both start an hour later than announced. One week they even substututed a repeat of THE MENTALIST because it started so late and I was looking forward to that episode (which was shown the following week nearly an hour late). If you keep messing with the times and DVDrs aren’t smart enough to keep up with the changes we end up missing either all or parts of one or both shows unless we record them in the slower less watchable modes. Hey, I’m a big football fan, but I also like the direction both TGW and THE MENTALIST are taking this year. We have to wait until after the SuperBowl to get these shows to regularly-scheduled times. Meanwhile, a lot of people gave up hope on both the shows and CBS only has theirselves to blame. I would hate to see either show get canceled simply because no one can see them when they are supposed to be shown. I find myself waiting for my cable company to put the episodes on their free On Demand to see them, but sometimes we have to wait a week or more. This is unacceptable. Move your crappy reality shows to Sunday night and give TGW and THE MENTALIST the respect they deserve!
Ok I LOVE football so no complaints there… GO HAWKS!! I also enjoy TGW and the mentalist so I think ahead and DVR them both with added time for schedule adjustments but I also have on demand which allows me to watch it in full with limited commercials when I want…:-)
Just do what I do,record the Mentalist at least 1 1/2 hour over to 2 over. That way if your show starts late you have it and if it’s on time you got it. Either way it’s a win win situation.
I’m hoping NBC does the right thing and renews Parks and Rec for at least a 13-episode final season. I know the numbers aren’t great (although, it’s NBC, so not-great numbers are sort of par for the course), BUT I know more people who have purchased memorabilia from this show than any other, with the exception of Doctor Who (Because everyone needs a poster of the Swanson Pyramids of Greatness). So hopefully the dedication of the fans will play into their decision.
Ditto on both accounts!!!
As I keep looking over this list, it’s sad that there are a couple shows I’ve watched for like 5 years that I want to see cancelled so they can just go ahead and be over already because I can’t jump ship now!! *coughCastleandTheMentalistcough*
Happy to see The Originals is looking like it’ll be renewed, it’s getting better with each week.
Sean Saves? Horible show, “We are Men” had potential, written for a male dominant audience
but scheduled same time as Monday night football. would have worked with a time change
I agree, I like this show better than the crazy ones. I also like Michael J Fox show. Both shows were put in slots that other great shows preceded. I do not think that was fair. They should have put in more established shows. After The Office, 30 Rock, Friends, Cheers, Frasier,The Cosby,Show and Seinfled. How could they compete? Every show they put in the 9:30 slot except for Wings was canceled quickly. Plus I see NBC is not doing well.
I would love for Community to get another year but I doubt itll last past this season. Chevy’s gone, the Donovan brothers are gone, And Glover’s leaving after e5 this season
I watched Community On Demand last week to see Nathan Fillion’s guest spot. I also saw Paget Brewster and Robert Patrick with bit parts. My reaction? How could those prominent actors lower themselves to be a part of such a stupid, inane disaster? UGH!
The Good Wife a safe bet?! You’re joking. It was once a good show but that ended a long while ago. If this gets renewed over The Mentalist, I’m giving up.
Agreed. Last year I would have co-signed this assessment but nowadays it’s the reverse. TGW may be undergoing a game change but Alicia is unlikable and unsympathetic as ever, meanwhile TM is embarking on a bold new path (catching RJ and the aftermath) and I would like to see it unfold.
Moreover, if TGW doesn’t fix their shameful Kalinda/Alicia embargo then frankly I won’t even bother watching another season.
I think people making this type of statement “Alicia is unlikable and unsympathetic as ever” really haven’t been paying attention to Alicia or the show and some (I’m not saying you and i’m not saying all people) are probably saying that she’s such an awful character now because they’re upset that Willicia isn’t happening anytime soon.
Alicia and Cary didn’t do anything that Diane or Will wouldn’t have done if the roles were reversed. Yes, Will got her the job and yes they promoted her to partner and Will considered her for managing partner and she could have stayed in a good position, but all of that doesn’t matter. The partner promotion was just because of who she was. The managing partner thing most likely was just going to be a superficial. We have seen Alicia countless times disagree with L&G’s methods and decisions but she’s had to bite her tongue and accept it. You think any of that will change with her being a managing partner. I guarantee she would still struggle to do the things she wanted to do. L&G is an unhealthy and unstable work environment. She made a decision to jump ship and while I admit that there was some pretty shady actions on her part, I don’t think Will/Diane should be any bit surprised.
Also thinking about this from a TV show standpoint, I think that this is an amazing way to bring new life to the show. I still always thought this was one of the best shows on television and continues to be must-see TV for me, but this entire shake up adds a new dynamic to the show and keeps it moving forward and evolving.
I do agree with you on the Alicia/Kalinda thing. Margulies may not see how it’s possible to return to old times, but I think she should have kept that to herself IMO because there are many people who enjoyed the relationship between the two characters and wanted to see more. She has her opinion, but it certainly isn’t the most popular one. This is a TV show and these characters aren’t real people so really anything is possible with good writing (which I think the Kings and co. are doing really well with, although they should consider getting rid of Peter soon because he’s hogging unnecessary screen time).
“…probably saying that she’s such an awful character now because they’re upset that Willicia isn’t happening anytime soon.”
Wrong there; Alicia is so fickle and gutless I can’t be bothered to care about her romantic waffling (been put off since season 3). Moreover, I already referenced the ship I’m invested in (Kalinda and Alicia’s dissolved friendship) which is the primary source of my ire, and since we’re in agreement on that issue I’ll move on.
Alicia is unlikable and unsympathetic because even though she “wants to do something on her own” (to paraphrase Peter) she has failed to do any such thing, yet her ego is enormous. The idea of a new firm wasn’t even hers (Cary introduced the notion), but she was given first billing because she’s wife of the governor–so what was her personal accomplishment there? Additionally, FA&A are only even officially becoming a firm because Peter made that internet policy statement during his press conference. Neil Gross/chumhum already decided to stay with L/G and only changed their mind because Peter got involved. So again, where do Alicia’s individual achievements factor in? They don’t.
She was hired by Will in the first place because he carried a torch for her, she was kept over Cary for the same reason, she was promoted as a fourth year to partner (completely unbelievable AND unwarranted btw) to quell the fourth years’ rebellion, and was only offered name partnership because of Diane’s unceremonious ousting. What exactly did Alicia herself truly earn in the midst of all that? Genuinely nothing, which really would be fine with me if on top of which she wasn’t so sanctimonious, ungrateful, conceited, selfish and deluded. She is a good lawyer but certainly no more brilliant/capable/seasoned/experienced than Diane/Will/David Lee; so she has a lot of nerve talking down to them. If the writers/Kings are trying to make the case that Alicia ~deserves her success (as opposed to being the recipient of good fortune/boons) then they have a lot more work to do.
And fact of the matter: betraying/backstabbing people who extended themselves to/for you puts YOU in the WRONG and you should be prepared for the consequences. So crying in an elevator over a situation you manufactured is misplaced self-pity and certainly doesn’t earn any sympathy from me.
@Poppy,
The Good Wife is an Emmy winner each year that alone is worth the renewal for CBS, its production value street creed.
As for the Mentalist, its not about the Mentalist or The Good Wife, since they both bring some thing to 2014, if nothing else CBS would probably like to limit how many shows it needs to replace.
But, but….they’ve never won the Emmy. This year they didn’t even get nominated. Julianna Margulies didn’t get nominated either. I’m not sure the one guest actor or actress Emmy win they get a year really justifies a renewal. But, it makes no matter to me what happens to it. If they get renewed, I’ll still watch it. If it gets cancelled, my life doesn’t end or anything.
This response is a little late(I just saw this post) but The Good Wife was almost cancelled after the 2013 season. it was given a last minute reprieve, and now look at it. The Mentalist deserves the same. It also deserves to be moved out of that horrendous 10 pm timeslot on Sunday nights. I would love to watch more of The Good Wife, but The Walking Dead(when the episodes are new) gets my attention first.
Will you add the USA Shows and such later? I’m dying to know about “Necessary Roughness”… I know not many people watch this show but I love it either way and I would hate USA for taking another show off my screen… but we’ll see!
Also: REIGN… please keep it… I also like “Carrie Diaries”, but this one would be like a miracle if it got renewed again with those awful ratings…
I knew as soon as they changed the story line and brought in john stamos (?!) he is just awful…..he should stick to lifetime movies, or something else. he put the death knoll on necessary roughness. (sigh)
I’m hoping this comment ends up in the right place. I clicked on the reply link in my email and I ended up here with no sign of the comment I am replying to.
Unnecessary Roughness – I like this show, in both formats. It’s all about Dani for me. I was disappointed they sent the kids away tho. Love Nico ♡ I think Stamos did fine in the part. I’m not his biggest fan but I don’t have a problem with him either. I also liked his partner (the actor)who turned out to be the bad guy, dang it! I also think the change opens up the opportunity for more random characters; not limited to the home or sports arena. All in all I would watch this show if it was just Dani and her patients. Did they cancel it?
I knew as soon as they wrote out Matt, got rid of the kids and brought in John Stamos, the show was in trouble. Nico is not a suitable love interest–too devious. I liked Marc Blucas as Matt and hated to see him go, but like seeing him on Killer Women along with the actor (can’t think of his name) who played Demming on Castle and the on again/off again husband/ex on Fairly Legal. Stamos’ character was also way too devious and unsuitable for Dani. The writers had a hard time finding new, believable conflicts for the perennial patient/football player. Cancellation was probably inevitable.
They do this every year around this time, and by may it all changes like crazy. Shows they say are likely renewed or a sure bet can get cancelled if their rating drop,it happened when the Cw show the secret circle. At this time it was likely renewed.by may after its finale it was axed. As well as many other shows this can happen too.
CBS killed POI. On tuesday nights it used to do 2.8 or so every week in the demo
On Thursday it bearly reaches 2.
That’s the only reason it’s a safe bet and not a sure thing. Damn CBS! move it back !
I’m also rooting for TGW, Parks and Rec, Nashville, Scandal and B9-9.
@Hilla: What are you talking about with POI? The show is airing in one of the safest slots (following the NCIS juggernaut), though against a popular sophomore show, Chicago Fire. I watch both on my DVR. I think you have your nights confused. POI should be more than a safe bet, since it will in all likelihood make syndication gold. They need at least one or maybe two more seasons to reach the limit. FYI, the word you want in your second point is barely, not bearly, which would pertain to the large animal.
lol – I try to ignore spelling errors bcuz my auto-correct is constantly changing words on me. However, I do read what I wrote before clicking the finally :) button. Even then it’s not foolproof ;) Oh well ^
I don’t watch it, but I’d say Revenge is pretty much a sure thing. It’s in the third season, which means it needs one more for syndication, and ABC owns it.
For Revenge, it will come down to weather the demos don’t keep slipping. 1.5-17 isn’t good. On the other hand, ABC is in pretty bad shape. The challenge with ABC serial dramas is that they have very little syndication value – look at DH, PP, GA, Nashville and Scandal – even OUAT – ABC doesn’t even repeat them because they pull in horrible ratings. Syndication is not the reason why Revenge will be saved (unlike a CBS procedural), it will be because ABC believes it can make money for that network. Not sure the 10 p.m. Sunday slot when it returns will do it any favors.
Why is Once Upon a Time in Wonderland a long shot? It’s fantastic!!!
It’s nothing like the original, and in a lot of ways it’s better
ABCs mistake was putting it up against the big bang theory
I agree that its nothing like the original but I don’t think its that much better. The CGI effects are still terrible and I really doubt OUATIW has much audience in common with the TBBT.
Seriously, the CGI is so bad. I mean goodness gracious. Between that and the not-very-intimidating-at-all villains, I really can’t love this show. I’m not going to stop watching it, but I wanted it to be better than this.
I do watch both shows!! I like different genres so do a lot of people!
I am in agreement. OUATIW would’ve done much better if it were run during the originals off season.
Perhaps a Hillbilly accent would be more to your liking.
Enjoy :)
I watched 4 epsodes. Boring. bascially a copy of the original show. I’m waiting for the spinoff of the Norse Gods myself!
Mariana
Watch the other one
Indeed. I was expecting it to air in the winter hiatus. That would have been much better.
I can not under stand why there is not any comments about BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. I think that this is one of the best show on TV, the acting is great and the story line is great
I agree! I love beauty & the beast…….I think it is as good as arrow
I agree Beauty & The Beast is a great show.
I look forward to Beauty and the Beast every Monday. I think Kat and Vincent should get back together and get rid of Gabe.
Love Beauty and the Beast!!!!! HOPE they keep it!!!!
I absolutely love BatB and hope they don’t cancel it. It is the only show I wait anxiously for every week. The acting is great, the chemistry is amazing, the action is exciting, story is intriguing. Would be crushed if it gets canceled.
Love this show. Don’t want it to go at all.
love beauty -and the beast -they have it on the wrong day move it to thrusday or friday then u will see big rating
I agree! I love beauty & the beast…
I agree with you on the show of beauty and the beast i’ts the best show l’ve seen so far
I agree. Love the show. Its the only show that causes me to switch off criminal minds and ncis reruns.
Agree
I agree. ABC should have put this on in winter or summer hiatus of OUAT. Thursday 8 EST was a huge mistake.
I tried a couple of episodes of once upon time in wonderland, I find it boring and bad. Same with nbc’s Dracula I am done with both.
I like Dracula :) I hope it renews. What made you stop (or not) liking it?
I love Dracula too. I love the actor he is so great, I loved him in The Tudors, when I found out he was the star I had to check it out. I’m glad I did, it is such a great show. Please don’t cancel it. There are too many other shows I got hooked on and are on the cusp.
I enjoyed the show, just wish the sets were not so unlit, it is hard to see what is going on and makes it hard to follow the sequence when you can’t see what is going on
It is so much worst in my opion.I couldn’t even get past the middle of the 1st ep. and the previews had me excited .
Is there a way for fans of Betrayal to return for Season 2? I love this show and the actors/ actresses. The story like and how they play things out, along with more to tell. Please, don’t let them cancel Betrayal!!!
I agree I love Betrayal.
AGREE, AGREE, AGREE.
Would like Betrayal back. Good show. Also love Last Man Standing. Very funny show ,great story line
I hope Betrayal comes back…thought it was great – Also loved Suits, sorry to see it go also
SUITS was renewed a while ago: https://tvline.com/2013/10/24/suits-renewed-season-4/
Please don’t cancel betrayal. That’s why I don’t like watching regular Chanel cable seems to give shows more than one season.
Betray has been cancelled for a while now.
I agree Dracula yes. Very bad. Betrayal no it was great give it a chance.
I wanr the cw to renew Beauty and the beast. I worrry all the time that thet are going to cancael it
I like the actors and story lne.
I agree I have watched it since it came on and can’t wait for the new season. It is great don’t cancel it.
Beauty and the beast is my favorite show….Why is it a longshot?????????I am so angry…
I am talking about Alice in my comment above, in case it was confusing.
they also could of put ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND as a summer series.
And it was boring. The young woman playing Alice looked more like she belonged in a sword and sandal movie.
its ratings are terrible. That’s the basis renewal is based on.
He’s never coming back to American Idol. But if US X Factor gets cancelled, he’ll probably go back to X Factor UK
He didn’t just burn his bridges back to AI, he blew up all the row boats filled the water with gators.
Well Gary is leaving next year, so It I wouldn’t put it past me if he came back here!
It’s more than likely that he’ll go back to X Factor UK now that Gary and Sharon have left
I watch nature shows a lot.
don’t forget the bachelor & the bacheloress awful
PAM
Don’t want Simon on American Idol, I was happy to see him go.
I tried the first episode of Wonderland and wanted to like it… but found it painfully bad. So many bad decisions went into that story and the result was… bafflingly bad.
It actually made me hesitate to watch the original OUaT. I cringe when thinking of that whole franchise now.
No need to cry.
Who cried? The question was, “why is Wonderland a long shot”. I replied, explaining why the ratings are low. That is what the reply button is for.
Drew, don’t cry. If it’s bad people will know it and not watch. I’m sure there are OP-Ed columns ad hominem about why Wonderland would be a long shot.
Someone doesn’t know what ad hominem means.
Brenda, what you wanted was “ad nauseum”.
Which is how I felt about this spinoff. But never mid.
It keeps getting better every week! I agree the first episode was bad,but it’s getting pretty good. Don’t let the pilot dissuade you.
It has improved so much since the pilot.
Yes I agree. My only complaint is with the casting choice for the Red Queen (she’s really awful), but have no choice but to tolerate her I guess
Mariana Vidal
love the show but the ratings make me sad :( :(
I agree Whole Heartedly!! “Once Upon a Time” & “Once Upon a Time” are MUST HAVES!!
It makes me laugh out loud when (presumably) grown adults whine about how something isn’t fair. Didn’t we learn that life isn’t fair in grade school?
Came to say this… I WANT ALMOST HUMAN BACK DAMN IT!
Guess it cost too much to make episodes, i don’t know.
You are so RIGHT! This is the ONLY program I have ever watched on Fox and I loved it!!!! GailH
I DVR everything and don’t stay home to watch T,V. ,does not mean i don’t like a show, it means I will watch it later.
If you use a DVR AS A NIELSEN HOUSEHOLD. And no one is “chastising,” just making sure your comment is interpreted correctly.
Tell me why Dracula is a long shot? It’s fun, interesting and different. I see this week is the final episode. I hope this isn’t the FINAL show.
I like both shows. wish they followed each other.
BRING ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND BACK!!!
I tried watching it and don’t get me wrong I love OUAT but you can’t just seperate them like that.
And it’s gotten so much better!
Yeah why is Once Upon a wonderland Is a long shot. Thats a good show!! Dont take it off the air.
What took so long?
I completely agree! It needed more time and solid air dates! Bring it back!
Dracula is a long shot? Too bad :( I really kind of liked it. It had a different take on the dracula spin. I thought is was pretty good.
Its good to b canceled, it wasn t a good one
I personally find this program boring. watched it three times, gave up!!!
sorry u councel BELIEVE … really liked it
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE BLACK BOX. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING SHOW. I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING EVERY WEEK. PLEASE RE-CONSIDER. PLEASE.
I hope Black Box is renewed! It is a terrific show and definitely should be renewed!
IT’S A DAMN FAIRY-TAIL, I DON’T CARE MUCH FOR MAKE-BELIEVE JUNK ANYMORE.
RENEW REIGN!!!!!!
I’ve seen the ratings for Reign, they hold the same number as Vampire Diaries, if not better some nights. It will be renewed!
No it dosent.VD gets 1.3& Reign gets a 0.6
idk im more of a law and order grimm and sleppy hollow my brother loves these shows that I just listed but he likes reign and vampire diaries so idk what he thinks
AGREED!!!! I LOVE Reign!!!!!
Reign is an exceptionally wonderful series!
Reign is officially renewed…. :)
Bad Teacher’s shown two seasons already? :-)
Yes, where have you been! (FIXED) –MA
:-)
Sorry, Michael, but I’m incorrigible. On Fox’s page, “Enlisted” is “Unlisted”. Freudian typo?
Nope, they changed the title. (FIXED) — MA
The mentalist is good I have no doubts on it coming back . The show isn’t called red John anyway.
Getting RID Carter was a BAAAD MOVE for “POI” I’m not such a loyal fan of this show anymore!
Agree – Person of Interest is a wonderful series and so very interesting. If it gets cancelled, then there’s something going on that’s not right. Just when fans get interested in these wonderful shows, they get cancelled. It’s not fair to the viewers.
Agreed. I suddenly lost interest…
Please keep the mentalist but change the night. Football kills their starting time. A lot of people don’t have pvr
You can thank football for that.
Good Wife sucks and doesn’t even come close to being as great as
the Mentalist!!
Seriously, have you even watched The Good Wife?
I’d consider Revenge a sure thing due to syndication.
I agree with that. Most of the other entertainment sites list it as a sure thing.
Pretty into Betrayal. Hope it’s not cancelled.
Really into Reign! Hate it when the episode ends and can’t wait to watch the next one. Completely impressed. Sucked me right in.
America’s Next Top Model was just renewed for Cycle 21.
Loving Mom and Sean Saves the World. I hope they get picked up.
For me, Sean Saves The World is the best new comedy this season. It has to be picked up.
Sean Saves? Horible show, “We are Men” had potential, written for a male dominant audience
but scheduled same time as Monday night football. would have worked with a time change
It is the Besttttt show along with thei Millers
I agree, I like this show better than the crazy ones. I also like Michael J Fox show. Both shows were put in slots that other great shows preceded. I do not think that was fair. They should have put in more established shows. After The Office, 30 Rock, Friends, Cheers, Frasier,The Cosby,Show and Seinfled. How could they compete? Every show they put in the 9:30 slot except for Wings was canceled quickly. Plus I see NBC is not doing well.
Hannibal and Community better be renewed.
UGH!
People think that about your posts – the horrible and inane part I mean…
I love this post. Wish I could write like that. It is so accurate.
Agree 100%.
I was agreeing with ABZ, btw.
@Poppy,
The Good Wife is an Emmy winner each year that alone is worth the renewal for CBS, its production value street creed.
What are you talking about? Julianna Margulies and Josh Charles were nominated for Emmys this year. So what the show.
I agree, I can’t stand the GW and the Mentalist is so good, they best not cancel it..CBS are you listening?
Ummm might want to fix this typo:
New Girl: A sue thing
I don’t know, Fox seems happy with it. It gets solid demo numbers and can’t be that expensive to produce. Why wouldn’t it be a sure thing.
Actually, I think what Julia meant is that they forgot an “r” in “sure”. Haven’t checked if that typo has been corrected by now.
Cable shows usually have their own renewal scorecard, completely separate from this one.
CABLE SCORECARD: https://tvline.com/2013/06/04/cable-tv-shows-renewed-cancelled/
I’d like to see Necessary Roughness renewed. Their last season paved the way for more storylines and John Stamos was great
I knew as soon as they changed the story line and brought in john stamos (?!) he is just awful…..he should stick to lifetime movies, or something else. he put the death knoll on necessary roughness.
I also love Necessary Roughness, but unfortunately, it was not renewed.
Isnt this a bit early? I mean its still October….
Ain’t that the truth
Well, I actually already asked for it back in September
She meant ‘bearly’ as she’s obviously feeling grizzly!!
lol – I try to ignore spelling errors bcuz my auto-correct is constantly changing words on me. However, I do read what I wrote before clicking the finally :) button. Even then it’s not foolproof ;) Oh well ^
I don’t watch it, but I’d say Revenge is pretty much a sure thing. It’s in the third season, which means it needs one more for syndication, and ABC owns it.
This girl knows what’s up! Now go watch it!!
