With apologies to baseball sage Yogi Berra, sometimes it ain’t over even after it’s over: Pitch may be revived for Season 2, according to a recent report.
Fox cancelled the sports drama, in which Kylie Bunbury played the first female Major League Baseball pitcher during her rookie season, in 2017. Now, Disney’s 20th TV may bring Pitch back, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The revival reportedly would be part of a plan to ensure that series creator Dan Fogelman, who also created 20th Century Television’s This Is Us, stays at the studio when his current deal is up. TVLine has reached out to 20th TV for comment.
Fogelman added fuel to the revival buzz late Thursday via social media.

Pitch did well with critics when it premiered in 2016 but averaged barely 3 million viewers and an 0.8 rating. When the show was cancelled, Bunbury posted to Instagram that her heart was “heavy” and that playing Ginny Baker had “profoundly changed my life and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play a role that resonated with so many people.”
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, her co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar told TVLine that he and Bunbury were “blindsided” by the series’ abrupt ending — so much so that they hadn’t had any conversations with the show’s producers about how season-ending storylines like Ginny’s injury or the almost-kiss between Ginny and Lawson would’ve played out.
“We all thought we’d resolve those issues in the second season,” he said. (Watch full interview below.)
Bunbury can next be seen in Ava duVernay’s Netflix miniseries When They See Us about the Central Park Five. Gosselaar currently stars in the sci-fi drama The Passage, which Fox has not yet renewed for Season 2.
YES PLEASE!!!!!!
Please, please, please!!!
Oh my gosh YES PLEASE!!!
WOW!!
I’M….. I — DON’T PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS. Please. Please. Please.
YEESSS
I really enjoyed Pitch, but this seems like a logistical nightmare, trying to get everyone back. But if they can work it out, I’m in!
Well they really only need Kylie Bunbury back.. they can say it’s a couple of years later after she recovers from her injury and the other players have moved on.
I hope they would bring back a few other characters at least. Kylie Bunbury is definitely the only necessary actor, but a few others really made this show worth watching as well.
Technically, yes. But it wouldn’t be the same without the relationship she had with Mark Paul Gosselaar’s character. If they can get a couple of the main characters back, they could explain away the remaining characters.
YESSSSSS I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!
This would be amazing as long as they could get everyone back.
WHHHUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTT???????????????????????
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!
I hope this works out. I LOVED PITCH! It was so underrated.
Glad for the fans, though if they sacrifice The Passage* for this (both shows are from 20th/Disney, both shows have Gosselaar as a co-lead), I will be annoyed. But if both shows continue with 10-episode seasons, hopefully it can be worked out so that he can do both.
*Provided a renewal from Fox is in the cards
This! Renew both, but keep the season’s short.
14/10 would love this set up
Just have Gosselaar’s character retire… then they could do it without him…
Nah! He was a huge part of what made the show so entertaining. I loved him in this and wouldn’t want it back without him.
What they could do is have his character retire but return as a bench coach or hitting coach (I don’t want him to replace Dan Lauria as the manager, that’s all) or would be great for him to retire and be a sports commentator and then fail miserably at it and then come out of retirement (like Jason Witten is doing). There’s so much they can do! And we can even have the show take place 2 years after the events we last saw because she had tommy john surgery and it usually takes 2 years to come back from it….and they can do flashbacks to what happened during those two years! Make this happen!
I wouldn’t watch without Mark or Kylie. I love the show and they were a central part.
I think it’s likely to point to a Passage cancellation (I doubt that would be ‘sacrificing the Passage for this’, more like ‘using Gosselaar who’s now available’) – BUT, there’s also other possibilities re the Passage that enable Gosselaar to be in Pitch.
So if The Passage isn’t renewed (though I’m hoping it does…), then this should free up Mark-Paul Gosslaar to do Pitch when it’s revived. Cool!
That would be amazing! Loved this show.
The lesson, as always: Zack Morris is trash.
Too good to be real!!! Still miss this show. Would absolutely love to see it return!
This just made my day!!! Please tell me the chances are actually good that this will happen?!
OMG YASSSSSS
YESSSSSS!!! Best news i’ve heard today!!
I had to check and make sure that the date of the article wasn’t April 1st. Would love it back.
This makes me so happy!!! But I am cautiously optimistic.
OMG YES PLEASE!!!!!!
It didn’t get a proper shot last time around, so this is great news!
A show with a build in audience would be a good addition to Disney’s streaming service (like The Good Fight is for CBS).
that’s what i was thinking i wonder if Pitch is going to be revived on Disney+ since next week Disney is going to have a big “Investors Day” meeting with their shareholders which is going to be a big coming out party (and what i mean about that is they’re going to reveal a lot of information about Disney+) like they’ll reveal when it’s going to launch, how much will it cost per month and yearly and reveal what shows and movies are going to be exclusive to the service and i think they’ll announce Pitch is coming back for a second season and it will air exclusively on Disney+.
