Penny Dreadful meets… American Horror Story: Asylum?
Showtime has released the first image from Penny Dreadful‘s upcoming third season, and it features a straitjacketed Vanessa being comforted by psychiatrist Dr. Seward (newly-minted series regular Patti LuPone) in what looks like a padded cell. The network’s accompanying release says Seward is helping Eva Green’s tormented alter ego “battle “the evil forces she cannot seem to escape.”
As previously reported, Season 3 will also introduce Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll, played by Shazad Latif (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Spooks).
Other Season 3 newbies include: Christian Camargo (Dexter) as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (Jupiter Ascending) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels) in the series-regular role of Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton); and Jessica Barden (Far from the Madding Crowd) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).
Penny Dreadful‘s nine-episode third season will premiere in 2016.
I can’t believe it took me as long as it did to see this show. It’s pretty incredible.

Has anyone heard any news about the season 2 soundtrack coming out? The music in this show is one of my favorite things.
