Everything’s coming up roses for Netflix: The streaming service has given a 10-episode series order to the psychological thriller Gypsy. (But the comparisons to Broadway’s classic musical end with the title.)
The hour-long drama centers on Jean Holloway, a therapist who develops dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.
Set to premiere in 2017, the projects counts Liza Chasin, Lisa Rubin, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner among its executive producers, with newcomer Rubin also penning the script. EW.com was first to report the series order.
Now that you know Gypsy‘s premise, hit the comments with your casting ideas for its leading lady!
Wasn’t there a show just like this a couple of seasons ago Box something or other and it was cancelled fairly quickly.
Black Box (ABC).
Yes, thank you! Doesn’t this show sound very similar to this premiss?
In Black Box, the character was a neurologist treating patients each week with issues dealing with the brain. I dont think it sounds similar.
Plus, wasn’t she Bipolar herself, but she didn’t always take her meds which caused her to act irresponsibly. It was awful, and the only bright light was Vanessa Redgrave as her psychiatrist. That said, this new premise doesn’t interest me either; I’ll pass.
Yes but a psychological thriller on network is bound to do more poorly than a psychological thriller that doesn’t have to hold back on Netflix, so its probably not relevant that it didn’t last unless this was going to be on network TV, just saying…
its a show about a therapist yet its called Gypsy? Cannot refuse to use an outdated, offensive term I guess….
Yeah, I’m really curious to understand the name. The premise sheds no light on why that would be an appropriate title, and as you say, that word is offensive and outdated. It boggles the mind.
Famke Janssen perhaps? She’s been great on HTGAWM, plus she’s played a Jean before…
