Naomi Cancelled at The CW
Superhero drama Naomi has lost its fight with fate. The CW offering has been cancelled after one season, TVLine has learned.
Despite a promising launch — the show’s January debut ranked as The CW’s third-most watched season premiere of the 2021-22 season — its audience has since fallen by more than 40 percent. That said, its audience still tied for No. 5 among all CW dramas. The May 10 season finale will now serve as a series finale as well.
Starring The Equalizer‘s Kaci Walfall, Naomi followed a cool, confident and previously bespectacled Black teenager as she came to realize her hidden destiny and journeyed to “the heights of the multiverse” in search of the full truth of who killed her parents and why.
With each installment, Naomi came to realize her hidden destiny and abilities, as well as more than a few commonalities she had with her not-so-mythical idol Superman. Naomi also allowed its titular character to tackle regular teen-angst issues such as her first kiss, defying her parents and figuring out her sexuality.

Written and executive-produced by Ava DuVernay (When They See Us) and Jill Blankenship (Arrow), the DC comic adaptation also starred Law & Order: SVU’s Stephanie March, Hap and Leonard’s Cranston Johnson, Mary-Charles Jones (Kevin Can Wait), Will Meyers (Bad Education) and relative newcomers Daniel Puig, Aidan Gemme and Camila Moreno.
The network also axed Dynasty, Charmed, 4400, In the Dark and Roswell, New Mexico on Thursday. They join the previously cancelled dramas Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow. The CW’s atypical “bloodbath” of cancellations this season is likely due to the network’s rumored upcoming sale (perhaps to the Nexstar affiliate group) and thus its uncertain future.

not a complete shock, but i do think there was more story to be told
Kaci Walfall will be a star, but there was something off with the show. It moved both too slow in pace at times, but too fast in terms of diving into the home planet storyline. They should’ve stuck more with the high school angle, and less with making her parents lying murderers.
I agree on this…..they should have focused on the high school angle before going into all the superpower stuff
It was unwatchable dreck, and I really tried to watch it. I wanted it to be good but watching it was like chewing cardboard. Someone put Kaci Walfall in a show worthy of her, preferably immediately, thx.
So disappointed. I loved Naomi and was looking forward to what would come in season 2.
Just watched the first two eps yesterday but now I know there’s no point in continuing.
Not surprised, after just watching the season finale…I just kept thinking the writing was very clunky, the parents…SPOILER…heel turn just felt badly written, among other things.
There was promise with the premise, some of the actors – particularly the lead and her bff – but it just never felt like a strong show.
I would have chosen Batwoman over this if there was a one or the other renewal Upton…. creatively S2 & S3 of that show benefitted from a much stronger lead actor.
dang i really liked this one, i was getting into the story :( and they leave us on a cliffhanger about her folks being traders come on! i hope another channel picks it up or on a streaming service or something!

Exactly. It was a solid show. Interesting cast. I don’t think it was given a fair chance. I would turn to it and it would be a rerun or something else would be on. Other Tuesdays I missed it and you didn’t find out until the next day got a new episode was on

Well, if Legends got cancelled, there was no way in hell this was going to get renewed.
I’m most saddened by the cancellations of Legends and Magnum. Now I’m also a bit concerned about the fate of Big Sky.
Big Sky is not on a network being sold, and out of 8 dramas on ABC it places fifth. It has about a 60-40 chance of being renewed for one more season. It would be higher but the fall off this year was pretty drastic.
Methinks the superhero market is just too saturated.
I figured they’d keep for one more season just to stay in Ava’s good grace’s.

So is The CW finally getting out of the hero genre? I kinda hope so. I would say I wish this was a sign that they’re going to go back to comedies and dramas but I keep hearing rumors the channel might not exist much longer.

The rumor it may not exist is only partly true. It won’t exist as the joint ownership of CBS/Viacom and WB. It has been losing money since they merged the UPN and WB networks years ago, and they are tired of propping up a network that never made it (fifth and sixth networks combining to make a #5 network is not a strong position). They are up for sale and perhaps Netstar will buy it. If not, then you are right – they need someone else to buy it for next season or it may get shut down after next year.
Yes, we enjoyed Naomi, and are disappointed at its cancellation. All of the weeks off certainly didn’t help it maintain an audience.
It was a very good and entertaining and well written show. Very sorry to see that it’s been cancelled. I’m hoping some other station pick it up.
Show started off slow but then it just launched itself to a higher level.
Probably if the people continued to watch past the first few episodes they would have like it.

My husband and I liked the show, as far as shows go sad its cancelled. It a clean decent show, sick of murder, sex , dirty mouths, so I watch very little tv, husband has to watch it alone
yeah again and despite the show runner it wasn’t really in your face black people good white people bad and i’ll likely watch the finale tommorow as i liked it
Sorry this show is not a shock to be cancelled. It finished its first season with worse ratings than a show that was cancelled after its seventh season. The show was SLLLLLOOOOOWWWW. There was just nothing of substance to this show all year and that is unfortunate on so many levels but par for the course unfortunately with the writing at CW over the past 5-10 years.
I really like that show it need another season some of the alien characters like Brutus needs to be recast his appearance was cheap and unappealing. A more attractive bad guy would have been good it would have increased the intrigue but that Brutus yuk and his team no good but overall good little show I would watch it

Kinda disappointed to see this show go as I had grown to like it. The lead actress and her BFF were great. Some of the other characters were great (i liked the guy that played Zumbado and Stephanie March is top tier), but some of the acting was very 1990s Disney. Lol.
All that said, kinda sucks that this show gets canceled instead of a few others that I haven’t watched past their first season.
Not a shocker. This show always felt off, like I thought for sure they would work in a Truman show angle somehow because everyone magically seemed to know and love this otherwise unremarkable teenager that dresses like my gram only more baggy. Heck the pilot episode was uneven in that regard right off the bat, going from strangers taking note and actually applauding when Naomi pulled an unremarkable skateboard stunt, to a gathered crowd being completely indifferent to a passed out on the ground Naomi later on. The overall pacing of the story was stop and go as well, as others have noted here.
Maybe there was a good show here somewhere but it never materialized nor found a real audience, so again not shocking it was canned.
Very disappointed. I liked the characters and thought this show had real promise. They should have given it one more season at least.
Why You cancel a great show like leyend batwoman and mostly Noemí they are the nombre one program same on You now Superman and Louis are good series cancel them to we like allá the DC show
I’d pretty much decided I wasn’t going to continue on with this show. The anti-climatic face off with the villain followed by that twist for twist’s sake with the parents were the finale straws for me.
Let this stand as a lesson to the folks at The CW and to the future owners of the network. To keep your programs you must give a consistent viewing experience to grow your audience for any given program. No more lengthy break between episodes.
