SEAL Team‘s Max Thieriot is coming back to CBS… well, behind the camera, anyway.
The network has ordered a pilot for Cal Fire, a firefighter drama co-written and executive-produced by Thieriot, TVLine has learned. The story centers on young convict Bode Donovan, who joins a firefighting program for inmates in a bid to shorten his prison sentence. The program brings him back to his hometown in Northern California, “where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region,” per the official description.
Thieriot co-wrote the story along with Tony Phelan and Joan Rater (Grey’s Anatomy, Madam Secretary), based on his experiences growing up in Northern California fire country. Phelan and Rater will write the pilot teleplay and also serve as executive producers, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.
But don’t worry, SEAL Team fans: As of now, Thieriot isn’t slated to appear on camera on Cal Fire, and the pilot order isn’t expected to interfere with his role as Navy SEAL Clay Spenser on SEAL Team, which just got picked up for a sixth season by streamer Paramount+.

Can’t wait for this show about firefighters
Always up for a new firefighter drama because Chicago Fire, Station 19, 911, and 911 Lone Star aren’t enough. But seriously, I do love SEAL Team so anything from that production family is welcome.
Oh, goody. ANOTHER firehouse/cop/paramedic show. How original
Oh, good. I feared SEAL Team came to an end after the last episode.
Love Max’s work I wish them the best.
If Max Theriot is involved in any way, I’m in!
Sorry for the typo. Correction:
Max Thieriot. He’s fantastic.
CG
I will definitely watch this new firefighter show givíng criminals a way to help society.
Looking forward to the up coming Pilot for Cal Fire. Always enjoy Fire Fighter movies and shows. Good to see actors expanding their talents.
Cal Fire? Can writers not come up with more creative ideas? There are 49 other states to place a storyline besides California. So basically a knock off of 911 and other shows over the years.
What other state has so many fires that they have to get prison workers to help the firemen?
Many. As an x wildland firefighter for the USFS we often fought fire next to prisoners and not just in California.
Yes but not many (if any) have their own state firefighting system. This is a state wide firefighting, not Chicago or any other city single city. They are tasked with fighting fires anywhere in the state.
Way to kick ass @maxtheriot show them how its done…👍👍👏👏👏can’t wait to catch the new show..Cal 🔥 Fire..congratulations to you and your fellow writers
Im very familiar with prisoners working with firefighters. I have family from the area. Can’t wait to see this program.
Sounds good, as long as they don’t mess with Clay on Seal Team!
Why? I mean we have 911, 991-dumb, 911-boring, Chicago Med, Chicago dead, Chicago crap, etc, etc. etc. Why do we need ANOTHER show about fire, police, or med? Can’t these creators think of ANYTHING else?
The concept sounds interesting, unfortunately the program will be going up against 3 other firefighter that seem to be, for right now, popular. So I’m afraid it may be an uphill climb. I hope it does well. Keep up the good work Max.
Why would I start watching another show on this network that will get shifted to “exclusively” to paramount+ like they did with Seal Team?
I just finished watching Chicago Fire and I’m a huge fan of the 911 series, so I’m very excited to read this! Excited to see what Max does behind the scenes. I might be mistaken, but I thought he’d done a bit of directing with Seal Team already?
I like the idea of convicts training alongside firefighters to be helpful and useful members of society. Everybody has a story and I enjoy seeing people learn from their mistakes and overcome. We’re all human and deserve a second chance. I will definitely watch.
I have always been a fan of fire and crime dramas. This sounds like an interesting twist on firefighting theme, maybe with a little of the crime drama included, to boot. I definitely look forward to seeing what CalFire has to offer.
Great concept! Done as close to realistic to real firefighting, the better.
Would be nice but I don’t have much hope, they always Hollywoodizes and have firefighters doing things in reality would never be done. I know, as an x wildland firefighter, been there, done that.
Sounds like an interesting show. I’ve always liked firefighter shows, especially now that my brother is a firefighter.
Sounds like a great idea for a new series.
I lived in Northern California for 20 years, so I know how unpredictable forest fires can be. Ive never been a fan of cop, firefighteror hospital dramas but, I would watch this.
.
Love Seal and Blue Bloods. This show sounds like a winner. Best wishes and watchers to our Seal Clay!

The guy that portrays Brock is not a trained actor. He is there as a professional for authenticity.
