Hulu is shifting Love, Victor‘s original June 19 launch date out of respect for “Juneteenth,” which marks 155 years since slavery was abolished in the U.S.
“This date represents an important turning point for our nation and for human rights,” the streamer said in a statement, “and we believe that now, more than ever, it deserves to have its own day in the spotlight.”
As a result, sequel series Love, Victor will now bow on Wednesday, June 17. Similarly, the Padma Lakshmi-hosted docuseries Taste the Nation — which was also set to premiere on June 19 — will instead debut on Thursday, June 18.
Love, Victor — a small-screen follow-up to Love, Simon, the 2018 film starring Nick Robinson — stars Michael Cimino (Annabelle Comes Home) as Victor, a teenager who is facing challenges at home and adjusting to a new city, all while struggling with his sexual orientation. When Victor starts to feel overwhelmed, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school. Robinson will be back to narrate the series, while the ensemble includes Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), James Martinez (One Day at a Time), Isabella Ferreira (Orange Is the New Black) and newcomer Mateo Fernandez.
Hooray!! I hope they feature some other content that will help more folks understand and celebrate Juneteenth and why it is an important yet underappreciated American holiday!
This is not a american holiday and will never be.
no one cares what you think, especially Hulu.
airing on Hulu makes it so much more complicated for the rest of the world to see… Hulu only airs in the US, so for Canada we have no clue how to watch this… at least with Disney + the whole world could have tuned in.
Unfortunately it was “to adult” for Disney
Freeform would have been a good place to air this. They certainly tackle issues like this. Of course, I don’t know about Freeform’s availability in Canada.
We have ABC Spark which is basically Freeform in Canada.
That’s a shame because Hulu is the best of the streaming services.
Can’t have The Gays on Disney+ !
.
I suspect we’ll see it on Crave here in Canada then.
i dont know why but Crave sounds like either a cooking channel or horror channel
Handmaid’s Tale is Hulu and it airs on Bravo / CTV Drama channel. Maybe they will pick it up.
Just some clarification here. June 19, 1865 is the day Union troops landed in Galveston, TX and the commanding general announced to the people that the war was over and the slaves were free. This was 3 months after the end of the Civil War and the first time people had heard of the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863. Juneteenth is celebrated in Texas but I’m not sure it’s too known elsewhere. Good luck to Love, Victor whenever it airs.
It’s pretty well known in the South. I’ve lived in quite a few southern states and there generally was recognition of it. That being said it’s rather telling that Hulu has more respect for it than the current president who is holding a rally in Tulsa the place of one of the worst instances of racial violence with the death of Black Wall Street on Juneteenth. It almost like he’s racist?
