NBC bubble comedy Lopez vs. Lopez is on the move — and getting a primo time slot to close out Season 1.
For its final three episodes, the George Lopez vehicle will air Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c, behind new episodes of freshman hit Night Court. Its Tuesday debut comes one week after current time slot occupant American Auto wraps its sophomore run (on April 18).
Meanwhile, with Lopez vs. Lopez vacating Fridays after April 21, NBC will double up on fellow bubble sitcom Grand Crew; the final two episodes of Season 2 will air as part of a one-hour block, on April 28.
All told, here’s how the schedule shakes out:
TUESDAY, APRIL 18
8 pm Night Court
8:30 pm American Auto (Season 2 finale)
FRIDAY, APRIL 21
8 pm Lopez vs. Lopez (last Friday airing)
8:30 pm Grand Crew
TUESDAY, APRIL 25
8 pm Night Court
8:30 pm Lopez vs. Lopez (time period premiere)
FRIDAY, APRIL 28
8 pm Grand Crew
8:30 pm Grand Crew (Season 2 finale)
Season to date, Lopez vs. Lopez has been averaging 2.5 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), as a self starter on Friday nights, while American Auto in its Tuesday time slot has been averaging 2.4 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, retaining not quite half of lead-in Night Court‘s numbers (6 mil/0.8).
Described as a “hilarious and heartwarming comedy,” Lopez vs. Lopez “tells the story of a working-class old-school Latino who moves in with his modern Gen Z daughter (played by Lopez’s real-life daughter Mayan) as they rebuild their dysfunctional relationship one argument at a time. It’s old vs. new, father vs. daughter, Lopez vs Lopez.”
In addition to the titular father and daughter, Lopez vs. Lopez also stars Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively and Al Madrigal. TVLine gave November’s series premiere an average grade of “C+.”
Will you follow Lopez vs. Lopez to Tuesdays? And how are you feeling about the series at this point in its freshman run? Sound off in Comments.
I really hope American Auto gets renewed but I have a bad feeling it’s going to be canceled.
American Auto and Grand Crew deserve a better time slot and promotion, they are really good and improving every week
That’s just great. American Auto and Grand Crew are the two comedies I actually look forward to watching. Sounds like they’re both goners.
Really like Grand Crew – still hoping it gets renewed!
I really like Lopez vs Lopez. I am glad NBC is developing more multi-camera comedies.
I crack up watching Lopez vs Lopez especially when they are showcasing the family dynamics, the hilarious friendships and Mexican American traditions and heritages just leave the LatinX politico stuff off please.
I have enjoyed Lopez vs Lopez since it started. Chance is a talented charmer also. I prefer the show on Friday night because I am a sitcom fan and not much I want to see is on most nights, particularly Fridays. I will take a well written sitcom over an action or talk show every time.
I agree that the premiere was weak! Almost didn’t watch going forward. However, the shows have been getting better each week, though having a “miss” every once in awhile. Love ♥️ George Lopez & daughter!
I don’t know why Grand Crew was renewed. I’m tempted to give Lopez vs. Lopez a shot. I love American Auto though.
Grand Crew has improved significantly from last season but I knew it was a goner with the ratings its gotten this season. American Auto has always been hilarious to me but I’m bracing myself for that to go too.
I like Lopez v. Lopez. I think their numbers will improve following Night Court. I’m glad this series is being given a chance.
Lopez vs Lopez is the only NBC comedy that deserves a renewal.
Young Rock, American Auto and Grand Crew should be canceled.
NBC should have paired Night Court and Lopez vs Lopez together back in January.
American Auto and Lopez v Lopez deserve a second season because I find them funnier than Night Court and that one got an early renewal.
In my mind, Night Court is totally overated. It is watcable, but, again, simply overrated.
The judge, district prosecuter, and , especially, the bailiff all overact.
Because I do watch Night Court, though, I’ll give Lopez a try.
Concerning American Auto. . .I don’t know. I want to like it but don’t as much as i want to. It can be clever In a Larry Sanders type expose mode.
I think my problem with AA is I find it somewhat a difficult sell that this group could successfully operate a major car company
I just love George Lopez. Matt Shivley has become a favorite.
Why couldn’t they have done this with Young Rock and Grand Crew? Seems like they’re only pushing for Lopez vs Lopez due to it being a vehicle for George Lopez.
Yes I will follow Lopez vs Lopez to Tuesday night. I watch that show every week. I hope NBC picks it up for season 2 idk why they wouldn’t they should in my opinion
I iove Lopez vs Lopez, and hope it gets renewed. I’ve watched (and tape) every episode. I enjoyed it on Friday night and also in the previous Tue. line-up next to Young Rock (also love). L v. L is warm, smart and funny. Entertaining and fresh. Please give it a new season!
This show totally SUCKS, it’s not funny or even moderately funny. NBC has to get a new Comedy administrator, someone with a sense of humor. Good luck on your search for a qualified person.
I love Lopez vs. Lopez the whole cast is great. Don’t know why they moved it. All these networks are making all these moving or even canceling great shows.
The show is really pretty cool! I have followed George Lopez for years and believe that he is not only a great comedian but brings that flare to any shows that he is apart of. I love all the characters especially that talented little boy. Everything on television doesn’t have to be a reality show. There are enough! That’s why enjoy watching some funny comedy. We need more of it in the world. I hope that it’s renewed!!
I love Lopez vs. Lopez. The whole cast is great. I don’t know why they moved it from Fridays but I still will follow it and watch.
