!['Last Man Standing' Revival: [Spoiler] Dies in Season 7 on Fox](https://tvline.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/last-man-standing-season-7-death-teaser-image.jpg?w=600&h=400&crop=1)
Last Man Standing will be down yet another fan-favorite this fall. Mike’s father Bud (played by veteran actor Robert Forster) will have passed on when the Tim Allen sitcom returns for Season 7, TVLine has confirmed.
As longtime fans will recall, Bud ran a pot dispensary in Denver named — wait for it! — Bud’s Buds, which Mike loathed. His father’s legacy will live on throughout the Fox revival, as another member of the family steps in to oversee the business. “Ryan will be taking over the daily running of the shop,” exec producer Kevin Abbott tells TVLine.
Forster was once a frequent presence on the ABC incarnation of Last Man, putting in nine appearances as the Baxter family patriarch. Bud last showed up in the Season 4 episode “Mandy’s Party,” which aired back in March 2015.
As well documented by now, Last Man Standing was cancelled by ABC back in May 2017, only to be revived a year later by Fox. In addition to Allen, returning series regulars include Nancy Travis (Vanessa), Amanda Fuller (Kristin), Jonathan Adams (Chuck), Christoph Sanders (Kyle), Jordan Masterson (Ryan) and Hector Elizondo (Ed). Kaitlyn Dever will recur as youngest daughter Eve.

In other casting news, Molly McCook (The Ranch) will succeed Molly Ephraim in the role of middle daughter Mandy, while Jet Jurgensmeyer (black-ish) will replace Flynn Morrison as Kristin and Ryan’s son Boyd. Last but not least, Krista Marie Yu (Dr. Ken) has been cast in the recurring role of Jen, a foreign exchange student who comes to stay with Mike and Vanessa. Exclusive details were first reported here.
The Last Man Standing revival kicks off Friday, Sept. 28, at 8/7c, on Fox. For more scoop on Last Man Standing and 39 other returning favorites, check out TVLine’s Fall TV Spectacular.
Why was a great actor like Robert Forster even on this crap fest show?
Money was green.
Dont worry. The show may not be on that long..
Reboots never seem to do all that well. But then again , when they changed the person who played the eldest daughter that paid off. Everyone got bent out of shape at first but the show continued on and the audience accepted her.
As long as Mandys replacement can actually act it may pay off. Thats the difficulty. Can she act ? The girl playing Mandy was beleivable. Will the new replacment be as well ? Or will she be the alternet John Boy. ? ( those of u that seen the Waltons know what i mean ) Guess we will have to wait and see.
No one can replace Mandy. I don’t want to even watch anymore.
Same here, it didnt bother me when they changed out Christine because she’s not a strong character. But Mandy was awesome. Whats worse is the new one doesn’t even look anything like the old.
Well technically i think this is a revival of the show and not a reboot.Plus even if the show just lasts a season on Fox maybe the audience can get a more fitting end than what happened on ABC with not final episode hoopla.
The “new Mandy” seems to be an awful caricature of another ditzy blonde. I don’t know if that is what the producers had in mind, but it totally ignores the personal growth that transformed “old Mandy” from a self-centered, selfish teenager to a more perceptive, kinder, businesswoman. What happened to make her revert so much? Two thumbs down!
Agree..new Mandy is ridiculous…why blonde & a foot taller. need to have a script that turns out that the new Mandy was just a nightmare of Klye’s & he wakes up to realize she’s just in NY for a while being a fashion designer until they can get the real Mandy back
Still not as bad as the kristin replacement. Went from a smart, somewhat mature, etc girl to a character who is dumb, thinks she knows everything, whines and runs to daddy any time she doesnt get her way and asks him to fight her battle for her so to speak.
Crap fest? I don’t think so.
I liked this show. what about it didn’t you like?
This Mandy looks like a horrible Mandy. She’s way too tall to be a Baxter daughter. Seriously, Eve was taller than her and now it looks like she’s about 5 inches shorter.
I agree 110% and the hairstyle looks like she went and got it done for free by cosmetology students!
I agree with everything you wrote.
There should be a lot of jokes on how much Mandy has changed in a year.
Maybe there can be a photo gallery of replacement actor, (actresses), who look nothing like the people they replaced.
They should have said Mandy went away to fulfill her goals, and Not hired someone new to replace her.
Her husband is another fan favorite, so they wanted him on as much as possible. I bet Mandy’s portrayer essentially refused to be even a recurring presence.
I completely agree. They should have picked someone her height.
The more I’m reading the more disappointed I am,… the recast my fave and now they are killing off Bud? Really? Why? Loved him!
This show got a bad rap for Tim Allen’s pro Trump opinions which I felt were completely unfair. I always felt like the show played a fair role in both sides of the political spectrum. Tim’s two older daughter’s, son in law, and sometimes his wife had their own strong opinions. These differences in opinions is what made this show so much fun to watch.
I agree with you! What’s wrong with valuing options that are different?
Tim Allen brought all that upon himself when he couldn’t accept his show was canceled. He went around crying that he was being discriminated against (kind of ironic).
Is that not what people are suppose to do when things do not go their way??? For example, I can not go to my college class today because Hilary Clinton lost, I need to go pet an emotional support dog. Yea that really happened at Berkley mainly, my sister said they were ridiculous, she went to class while the snowflakes had their melt down.
Yet every other show on tv is liberal. Your missing the point big time. Tim talking like a conservative and having one network support it is actually the point. We need more conservative shows. And we need a comedy show that can compete with snl’s political retoric. Its time to fight back not play along with the rest of the worlds rediculous idiology. But i still DO NOT LIKE THE NEW MANDY!
Amen to everything you wrote
Trash. Bring back last man on earth
1. You’re trash, crybaby.
2. It’s last man Standing, not Last Man on Earth. if you were a fan of the show, you’d know that.
You mean “Last Man Standing,” right? Otherwise, I agree with you.
Also, I’d finished my lunch break about two, three hours ago (12:00 EST), and after flipping through the channels for something to watch for some background noise, I came across Laff TV, where the network was featuring the one episode during Season 7 where Mike was telling Ed that pinball was “…LITERALLY [his] life” when he was younger. Really, Mike? You’re a staunchly conservative Baby Boomer who has often taken shots at “Millennials” for “ruining” America with their stereotypically liberal way of thinking/life, and yet, you’re using a term that’s all too often associated with the very generation with whom you constantly have a bone to pick? And after an all-too-audibly deliberate pause at that, hence the ellipsis in my quotation? Way to a) keep the completely unnecessary and overdone ‘literally” fad alive and well long after it should have died and b) proving those of us who HATE “literally” that it really isn’t a generational thing after all.
Last man was the only program I watched on ABC, they haven’t had a half decent show in years. I was so unsatisfied with ABC that I didn’t tune in to last man until they started appearing on cable TV and then began watching the new releases on ABC never missing an episode. So glad they are not on that poor excuse of a network any longer! Welcome to FOX!
You act like this show was even that good. I used to watch it until Tim Allen went on all his political rants. He’s the one that ruined it, not the network.
I like Tim Allen but I hate Last Man standing because of the constant political nonsense. I don’t care if you are left or right, communist or a person who wears converse shoes but the politic jokes are cringe.
You should care. The show helps bring healthy conversations ack to the dinner table. The left wants to scream, brake things or anything not to hear anyone disagree with their opinion. The show teaches the ability to disagree and still be on the same side when it really matters
Except that Tim Allen is now a giant hypocrite snowflake. The political stuff on the show was minor compared to his whining off air.
Yeah, because “The Right” is so much more mature about political and social issues, right? I’ve got news for you: I’ve read plenty of comments on the Internet from conservatives that are just as hateful, vitriolic, selfish, and ignorant as anything that “The Left” has regurgitated about a wide variety of topics, from actual political and social issues to entertainment to god-blessed GRAMMAR, of all things.
Personally, I think “The Left” AND “The Right” BOTH need to grow up, get over themselves, stop being so thin-skinned and self-entitled about everything in America (and across the globe), and quit turning every aspect of American life into a godforsaken war zone for their ideals. Not everything has to have a social or political slant, and not everyone has to take a side when someone or something urges the masses to. Let entertainment be entertainment and BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER for once, NOT drive them apart. It’s THAT simple.
And of course it does not bother you one bit that 99% of the shows for decades have been extremely left wing that’s fine but when you get a rare TV show that shows a right slant you Liberals are so intolerant and hate-filled you can’t tolerate it. You’re all pathetic
NEWSFLASH: Conservatives can be every bit as rude, infantile, whiny, spiteful, hateful, self-entitled, and “pathetic” as liberals can be. I’ve read enough comments on the ‘Net across many a forum over the past two decades plus to see so for myself, and so can you and the rest of the world. You yourself, Patrick, are proof of this fact, what with how you’ve reacted to LMS’s cancellation from ABC and consequent move to Fox.
Though I enjoyed the Bud character, I’m guessing the writers weren’t sure what other direction to take him. The Ryan character would be the natural one to take over the “pot shop” so that might be fun.
Why did they change Mandy?? I really liked the way she played the roll. Hope Fox doesn’t screw this show up.
fox are you stupid or what for getting a new mandy ain’t gonna look right its gonna give me a migraine
The original actress, Molly Ephraim, declined to return. I think she was already committed to another project. As a result the producers were left with the choice of writing her character out or recasting the part. Since the actor playing her husband was already under contract to return they opted for the latter. The role of Boyd was recast once again to age him up a few years to give writers more options for writing new storylines for the character. This will be the second time the character was aged up.
The new actor playing Boyd (Jet Jurgensmeyer, born 2004) is one year older in real life than the second Boyd (Flynn Morrison, born 2005). I would guess that there was another reason for the actor change, beyond the one that you mentioned. Maybe Jet can be made to look older than his actual years more easily than Flynn.
Mandy got another job she couldn’t get out of her contract.
SO, they’re killing off Bud to give Ryan something to do? Boy do they not know their audience. I say this as a liberal viewer. Ryan is obnoxious and the least screen time he gets the better. I would have much rather had them kill him off and put Kristen with someone better, perhaps JTT because they had chemistry. The more I learn the less excited I am to watch. Also, I don’t like the way the new Many looks in these photos. I’m not making fun of her looks. She just doesn’t look like a Baxter and she doesn’t look like Mandy at all.
Ryan is perfect for what he is. A whiny liberal. I’m entitled to my opinion but you aren’t, unless it’s the same as mine. Works like a charm. Not every Conservative is against pot either. You can’t drink scotch and say pot is bad. Kind of hypocritical. Major medical uses for pot. Not so much for booze, except as an antiseptic maybe.
I’m not happy about the Mandy recast AT ALL!!! Even if Mandy’s “new look” is addressed Molly McCook looks way too different…I don’t think “Mandy” will have suddenly grown 9” from 5’1” to 5’10” at her age of 22+ years old. Then say Molly Ephraim decides to eventually reclaim her role of Mandy, she will have shrunk back down to 5’1” again. It’s going to look too weird. It’s unfortunate Molly E. can’t make appearances like Kaitlyn Dever does for her role of Eve is doing until she’s maybe available to commit to the show full time again. Sadly, I don’t think LMS will be as successful as before due to all of these changes; Mandy being the most unrealistic but we can all thank ABC for that!!!😡😡😡
I always liked the show. I prefer to wait before I can comment on the likability of the show. Great writing with a great cast still in place should be great
What’s the point in bringing it back if half the cast is gonna be different..that’s just stupid
Um yeah…only ONE person declined to return because she is working on another show. In fact, one chose to return even though she is working on another show! This was just a change in story line. Great overdramatizing though!
Im okay with the recasting, whats stupid is how the characters changed once recast. For example, kristin went from what she was to amandas version which is a whiny, entitled, immature idiot. Mandy somehow got even dumber and all the development of her character went away.
Eve was taller than Mandy before now she looks about 7 or 8 inches shorter than her
Too many changes, it is hard to not focus on the difference of characters. I am not a fan of re casting half way through. Makes it hard to take the story line serious.
I have to agree with most of the comments; the new Mandy doesn’t represent the old Mandy. The old Mandy had a girly girl style (leggings, skirts, heels, ect.)high h fashion style. The new Mandy; from the pictures, looks like she will be from the LL Bean club. They should have said she went for fashion training and make an appearance occasionally.. until she can return full time.
Without even seeing an episode, you’re going to judge? Somewhat premature, eh?
Will Jay Leno show up over the course of the season?
In this time of partisan politics and social discord, I welcome a show that pokes fun at both.. welcome back Baxter family!!
It did poke at both until Tim Allen went on full butthurt mode and just cried about being discriminated against because of his politics. His fragile ego and inability to take something in stride and make it funny turned me off from him forever. He’s better than that, or used to be.
So glad Last Man Standing is back!! Kodos to Fox!
I didn’t even know it was still on air until they announced it was getting canceled. I’m surprised it’s showing up on Fox at all.
Nobody, & I mean NOBODY, can ever take Molly Ephraim’s place! This girl had better be REALLY good for me to accept her as Mandy! And a blonde at that! Really?
Did you like Molly only because she was a brunette before? 🤷
OMG you all are bananas! You’re all up in arms over some pictures? Lol, wow. Can we wait until the show airs before we get our panties in a bunch? Recasts happen all the time and I don’t see how you can see how a character is “represented” in a picture. Height differences? Really? Did we forget that the oldest daughter Kristen was recast? Took a little to get used to but she carved her path. Let’s not forget Becky on Roseanne, the revolving door of soap opera actors, Baywatch, The Fresh Prince, My Wife and Kids, Family Matters, Step By Step, and so many other shows from pilot to first season premiere have recast people left and right. Calm down. Lol. Wait until the show starts before we pass all this judgment.
Don’t care. Quit watching after 2nd season because it was in a downward spiral.
Give it a chance ! The new Mandy will probably knock your socks off !!😁👍😎
So they make a big stink about this “great” “conservative” show is canceled at ABC, how could ABC? So then after a few months FOX swoops in, acts like the hero, eats up the credit from the….fandom….? Now most of the cast isn’t even returning. It’s such a joke. Why not just make a whole new show? It’s so dumb. It’s as dumb as Kevin James firing Erin Hayes to have Leah Remini be his co-star again. Pathetic Hollywood.
Love last man standing
Mandy being a blonde is not going to cut it hoping she dye her hair dark brown be more realistic flame and he’s part
Main reason i like LMS is it shows left and right views and the ability to get along with each other, which does happen outside of Washington DC.
Its that simple
