Natalie Zea lands herself in a hole lot of trouble within just the first five minutes of La Brea, NBC’s upcoming sci-fi drama about a Los Angeles sinkhole that apparently leads to some “hollow Earth” world.
The exact premise for the series, which premieres Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 9/8c: When a massive sinkhole mysteriously opens in Los Angeles, it tears the Harris family in half, separating mother and son Claire and Josh (played by Justified‘s Zea and newcomer Jack Martin) from father Gavin and daughter Izzy (The Night Shift‘s Eoin Macken and newcomer Zyra Gorecki).
When Claire and Josh find themselves in an unexplainable primeval world, alongside a disparate group of strangers, they must work to survive and uncover the mystery of where they are and if there is a way back home.
The cast also includes Jon Seda (Chicago P.D.), Nicholas Gonzalez (The Good Doctor), Veronica St. Clair (13 Reasons Why), Rohan Mirchandaney (Hotel Mumbai), Chiké Okonkwo (Being Mary Jane), Josh McKenzie (Filthy Rich), Chloe De Los Santos (Tidelands) and Lily Santiago.
With This Is Us‘ final season not premiering until early 2022, La Brea will air Tuesdays at 9 pm, between The Voice and New Amsterdam.

I’m usually a sucker for this kind of high concept Sci-Fi thing but these first five minutes are so cringe worthy I wonder why they released them? The family bickering in the car was awful and the acting is beyond Power Rangers bad… Hope it gets better than this.
“High concept”? What do you consider low concept?
Good way to show this absolutely isn’t shot in the US straight off the bat – mere seconds in have the family sat in a car that was never sold there.
What are they sitting in, an older Nissan X-Trail built for the Canadian market?!
It was shot in Australia, but they got some LHD cars from somewhere. Yeah, it’s a 1st gen Nissan X-Trail, my dad had one. Amongst traffic around them as they run there’s also a few current Suzuki Swift and Suzuki Baleno, amongst other non-US models. They managed to procure a lot of stuff that was sold in the US market for set dressing, mildly ridiculous they then picked the one that wasn’t to be front and centre on camera haha.
The x-trail was built for asia, europe, south american, canada – Just not in the USA.. This turned me off of the show immediately.. lack of attention to detail
I was interested in seeing this series just because of Seda, Gonzalez & Zea… but this introductory video has doused all hope. YIKES!
Same. I was really looking forward to this. And I will watch the first episode, but if it doesn’t get better … in your words … YIKES.
The preview looks a little overdramatic, but I’ll probably watch anyway :-)
So they’re remaking Land of the Lost? It even has the cheap looking effects.
That’s what I said when I first heard the premise. Wonder if there will be Sleestacks (or however they’re spelled)
I actually started singing “Marshall, Will and Holly, on a routine expedition…” when I watched the clip! LOL
Notably: no footage of the “primeval world,” which would show whether it is full of wrecked vehicles and rubble from collapsed buildings.
I was so looking forward to this. But that first minute of domestic drudgery made me want to stop looking but it did get better. But just a bit.
Does NBC seriously believe they could replace Manifest with this schlock?
Seriously, at least the preview footage of Manifest, intrigued. This looks like bad rip of 2012 for start.
This is worse than Under the Dome, lol
oh yeah, baybeee, I love disaster movies! A sinkhole show? A cheesy sinkhole show? I’M THERE!
No thanks this will be cancel just like every show similar to this is on NBC
Gonna give it a shot only becuse of Jon Seda that guy is a solid actor who got screwed on the Chicago franchise. Given Rick Eid’s obvious racism its no wonder he got out when he did.
Not gonna do it again.
sci shows on NBC will be cancelled
some my favorites that got tossed aside by NBC
Timeless
Journeyman
Awake
Debris
this one doesn’t look that great but it doesn’t matter because I won’t be watching
Don’t forget The Event
This clip has lessened my interest in the show. I also guess I missed the part about there being an underground world when I first read about the show. That has really made me lose interest. I’m also still annoyed Debris was cancelled.
Having to have a “suspension of disbelief” is basic to any sci-fi or supernatural show—but the one subject that would make me interested in this show is one I’m highly doubtful will be addressed—how would this underground world have access to light, let alone the absence of vitamin D ?Wouldn’t most life forms that survived evolved to adaptations of dark cave/deep ocean forms?
One and done.
I wouldn’t watch this if I got paid to.
They filmed this in Melbourne, Australia. Where it is lockdown central for everyone except for actors and politicians.
Note to self: by all means stop to help a kid, but get moving STRAIGHT AWAY!!! Don’t be pausing.
I love Natalie Zea so I’ll give this a shot even though I know how this will go down on NBC
Anyone else expecting a Sleestak to show up?
I’m so tired of the usual cops and robbers, hospital romances under the guise of drama, and tear jerkers who’s main premise is to emotionally manipulate me, and the so called reality shows that are scripted. And yeah I know this first 5 minutes looks like a redone “Lost World” but at least I haven’t seen that in a while. The truth is I’m more all about a good movie but I’m still willing to give this a chance to be entertaining.
SO far OK time will tell
