Jake Tapper to Anchor CNN’s 9 pm Hour — Will the Move Be Made Permanent?
Jake Tapper is headed to primetime.
CNN announced Thursday that Tapper will anchor the 9 pm hour, which was previously occupied by Chris Cuomo. The move will go into effect on Monday, Oct. 10 and continue through (at least) the week of the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
Additionally, CNN Newsroom anchor Alisyn Camerota and CNN Senior Legal Analyst Laura Coates will share anchor responsibilities from 10 pm-12 am, replacing AM-bound Don Lemon, whose 10 pm program will end on Friday, Oct. 7.
“The world has come to rely on Jake’s no-nonsense approach to covering the news, especially during high-stakes election cycles,” CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht said in a statement. “This move will showcase his tough reporting, smart analysis and consequential interviews as our audiences navigate the myriad of issues at stake in the midterms. By adding the insights, experience and strong voices of Alisyn and Laura, we will advance and expand on that coverage, creating something complimentary and compelling in primetime.”
As a result of Tapper’s big move, John Berman and Brianna Keilar — who will no longer host New Day — will each fill in for Tapper on The Lead, from 4-5 pm. Meanwhile, The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer will expand to two hours and air from 5-7 pm.
All told, CNN’s new schedule, which takes effect Monday, Oct. 10, looks like this:
4 pm The Lead, anchored by John Berman and Brianna Keilar
5 pm The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer
7 pm Erin Burnett OutFront
8 pm Anderson Cooper 360
9 pm CNN Tonight, anchored by Jake Tapper
10 pm CNN Tonight, anchored by Alisyn Camerota and Laura Coates

I wish there were reporters that just told the news and gave unbiased information. the only thing we get is agenda driven propaganda by talking heads. I honestly don’t think they should be considered “press” and get protected by the First Amendment. They are all Goebbels and Baghdad Bob’s
Agree and I like Brianna and she should be on more often in my opinion in her old afternoon time shot for 2 hour’s not just one hour

There’s no doubt Jake is a rising star in the CNN network he and Don Lemons talent are being utilized.

I assume you prefer to watch another Network. Perhaps Fox? “Donald Trump Land”. Living in Canada and seeing the politics in the United States I cannot believe that there are so many people thinking that Donald Trump is actually fit for the office of the most powerful and Democratic Society in the world! He is certainly a very strange man with a very strange mentality. Seriously, just have a good look at him! Over the last 6 years my husband and I started having interest and entertainment watching CNN and it’s coverage of the politics in the United States. We have been inclined to support Democratic principles as a result of the representative leading the Republican Party. We feel it’s very sad that the Republican Party has been reduced to believing ridiculous theory and allowing one person to have control like a Mafia Boss. Find yourselves again Republicans!
Please don’t encourage them. (i.e. Republicans). CNN doesn’t suck so much as sometimes gets off track, but only occasionally. I would like it if all the anchors on CNN were as inquisitive and calm and honest as Anderson Cooper. He has superb training and experience and doesn’t need to raise his voice to get heard. I like Jake Tapper and will probably tune in to him. BTW, I love Canada and have enjoyed the couple of times I’ve visited. Thanks for watching the U.S. news. Good to have you visiting us!

I’ve been watching CNN try different people in the 9 o’clock spot since Chris Cuomo left. I’ve never seen Jake Tapper in that spot, so I can’t say for sure whether I like this idea. I’ve always thought Laura Coates or Allysin Camerota would be ideal but I’ll take them in the 10 o’clock spot. Also, I thought it was Wolf’s decision to go from 2 to 1 hours? How come he’s back up to 2 hours?
If Allyson is on with Laura, where is Victor Blackwell going? I really like Don Lemon at night, but I will watch him if isn’t on too early AM.
Mr. Tapper is a great choice for this prime-time spot. He is a consummate professional at his craft. He sometimes let’s his opinion show, but that is ok…it never gets in the way of his reporting.
Mr. Licht has done a nice job in revamping the network, although the loss of Brian Stelter was unnecessary. Glad he eliminated that “Breaking News” banner.
This might work. Two hours of Blutzer is too much for my taste, but oh well.

For some reason I don’t feel good watching Kate Baldwin as anchor. She was snotty looking and sounded that way when her hair was short and now that is it is very suddenly long haha she has the same snotty and abrupt persona that she had before. I guess it doesn’t matter what time she is on. 3:00 a.m. would be great! P. S. Why do most of the females on CNN have their hair parted on the side and the hair length is the same. They look “cookie cutter”

Interesting. Though Tapper is on during primetime during elections anyway…the only real change is the primetime hour. Remains to be seen how he handles it. I do like John Berman in primetime though. He covers for Anderson Cooper and does a great job.

CNN…: same old people doing the same old thing.. look at CNN rating.. shed the old skin get some interesting people..using the same old CNN people… your going to get the same poor people watching CNN ratings ????

I, too miss Chris. I really liked him and his program and his guests. Hate that he got into trouble with that brother of his, but, I guess family comes first.
Absolutely!! He was anchor on the only segment that I Faithfully tuned into watching. I wish there could be some type of agreement made to bring him back. CNN’s loss.
Like you, I really miss Chris Cuomo. He is so intelligent and his skills in the law field are impeccable. I watch him on News Nation sometimes, but he must be required to have Bill O’Reilly on. What a waste of time as he talks over Chris and is just a nuisance in my opinion

Great choice, and you might want to check out his riveting novel “The Hellfire Club” to see how plugged in he is to Washington politics historically.
I am currently reading his book “The Outpost” and it is well done. As I am watching in europe, this move would possibly mean that I wont be seeing Jake anymore as that is like 4 at night or so.
I am skeptical, but their lineup does seem to be coming together.

Love the new lineup!!!!!! Jake was wasted in the early afternoon slot, except for retirees like me. How does Briannna still have a job? Her heart is not in it; no personality. I only watch her because of John’s input.
I love jake tapper no matter where you put him as long as he remains a given on cnn. I have cnn on my tv all day long except the weekends and football.
