A Manhattan grand jury on Thursday voted to indict Donald Trump. The former U.S. president was facing charges stemming from hush money payments made to women with whom he allegedly had sexual encounters.
Multiple news outlets, including CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and the New York Times, have reported on the grand jury vote, citing sources, though no precise charges have been disclosed yet. The indictment is expected to be formally announced in the coming days, at which time Trump will be asked to surrender and face arraignment.
Trump’s indictment is historic, as no other U.S. president, sitting or former, has ever been charged with a crime. Trump, who served as the country’s 45th President from 2017-2021, has been pursuing a second White House bid since November.
As part of a years-long probe by the Manhattan district attorney, a grand jury heard from witnesses including former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who testified that in 2016 he had facilitated payments to two women, to silence them about sexual encounters they claimed to have had with a married Trump a decade earlier.
Cohen testified that, as directed by Trump, he arranged payments — totaling $280,000, and classified internally as “legal expenses” — to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal, to buy their silence while Trump made what would be his first successful White House run. Cohen says he was reimbursed for Daniels’ “hush money” via personal checks from Trump.
As for McDougal, The National Enquirer, acting in cooperation with Cohen and other members of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, had bought the rights to her story for $150,000, as a means to keep it from ever seeing the light of day.
In August 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to crimes related to his role in making the above payments, and served a three-year prison sentence.
Trump all along has denied that the sexual encounters occurred. He has contended that the investigation is a “witch hunt” led by Manhattan DA Alvin L. Bragg, a Democrat who is now the first prosecutor to indict a former U.S. president.
Besides the hush money inquiry, Trump faces criminal investigations in both Atlanta and Washington over his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Additionally, special counsel for the Justice Department has been presenting evidence before a grand jury regarding Trump’s possession of hundreds of classified documents at his Florida estate, which were seized in August 2022; it is not clear if that investigation will result in criminal charges.
Didn’t realize this was tv show related.
Isn’t he a former reality tv star? They have articles about the Bachelor’s personal lives
“Star of The Apprentice indicted by Grand Jury.”
There, fixed it for you.
He’s been on TV for years.
Its news… TV coverage is guaranteed.
Click Bait is click bait, deadline posts tons of stuff that has nothing to do with their actual premise…it’s all about clicks and comments to drive ad revenue…shame seeing them go down this road…it never is good for my long term enjoyment of the site…the comments get horrible and toxic
I agree with John M. This is completely off topic and just bait for fighting and trolling.
That sound you hear is President Trump’s approval rating going way up. Way to go, dummycrats…you just elected him to another term. You want to tick off and supercharge a movement? Pull Mickey Mouse stunts like this. You never learn.
Cry harder, tRumpanzee…GA is Next! 🤡
Followed by the Justice Department Special Counsel. People seem to forget that Michael Cohen (Trump’s former attorney and fixer) already served time for this particular crime.
Cohen served time for lying. He is a convicted liar. And he is Bragg’s prime witness. We all know what this is.
I don’t think debating who is the biggest liar is a winning strategy.
I hate to say it but his supporters will likely throw more money 💰 at his campaign.
Trump’s national popular vote ceiling in a presidential election is 47 percent. Under the right circumstances, that can be enough divided among the states and D.C. to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold, but it won’t be in 2024, as it wasn’t in 2020.
yup, accountability is a stunt.
No…a stunt is obsessing over your political opponents, rather than actually prosecuting real crimes. Bragg and his cronies are a disgrace. Trump will never see a jail cell…but he will see the Oval Office again. Bet the farm, Nancy
Is is not a crime to pay hush money to a porn star and classifying it as a legal expense related to his campaign? Just curious. Also, Manhattan could pursue these alleged charges in 2016/2017 as they were not allowed due to him being a sitting President at the time. This I’d definitely click bait, but relevant click bait, as it will likely dominate the tv news cycles.
Stunts? OMG. Unbelievable. Micky Mouse has better chances of being the next President.
we already have Mickey Mouse in the White House
Mr Magoo LOL
It might increase the devotion of his most zealous followers, but I have to believe that there are still some republicans who want their candidate to not be an actual criminal.
“Way to go, dummycrats…you just elected him to another term.”
Because the people who voted for him last time are now going to vote for him REALLY HARD? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I love this comment so much. Exactly my thinking.
How exactly does that equate to new votes?
It may not gain new votes, but it may encorage some people to vote that wouldn’t bother going to the polls.
I actually saw an interview on tv last night with a middle aged man who said he never voted before in his life and is now going to vote for Trump not because he likes Trump but because this country is turning into a banana republic. Time will tell how many more are like him.
They may even vote twice or suppress the voting of others.
I hope they do try to vote twice; I t’d be fun to see a few more of them in prison. As for voter suppression, they’re already doing it.
We all know Republicans love criminals as long as they’re racist and white supremacists. Tell us something new.
I am a republican and it’s like you can read my mind. Everytime I go to vote, I find out if they’re a racist. If they are, they get my vote.
Actions speak louder than words. You knowingly vote a racist in, you support racism, therefor you are a racist. Guilty by association is still guilty. The getaway driver in a bank robbery gone wrong still gets charged with murder if someone dies. Right is right and wrong is wrong. And the rhetoric, the actions, and policies of your party tell the rest of the world exactly who and what you all are.
Imagine looking at everything Trump’s done and said and was involved in the last few years and still thinking he’s worth defending or supporting. Good lord, get help.
He’s a criminal. He needs to be held accountable for his crimes. Period. End of story. God willing this can be the end of his attempt to return to the White House and he can go away somewhere where the rest of us don’t have to hear or see or deal with him ever again.
And if he could take his cult followers and the GOP as a whole with him, that’d be great, too.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful. I feel your pain. I don’t have a dog in the fight but he turned your country into a laughing stock and the world can’t handle 4 more years of DT or his sons.
Oh yes, I’m sure all those independents and suburban parents he lost in 2020 because of his antics and controversy will fly right back cause he *checks notes* sunk even lower.
He won’t even have a campaign when he goes to jail.
The sound you hear is actually the jail cell door closing behind Trump. This is only the first indictment, with many more to follow. When all is said and done, the NY case will be an inconsequential footnote. It might supercharge his hardcore followers, but you can’t win a general election with those alone.
Boy are you in for a rude awakening. There are 34 counts in this indictment alone, nevermind the case in GA, and the classified documents case. By the time they’re done with him, he won’t be allowed to even tour the White House, much less reside in it.
Gee, I wonder what they will be talking about on the late night shows tonight. Probably different than what will be on Fake Noose.
Seeing as the late night n shows will have already been filmed for the day, they’ll have to wait until tomorrow.
I’ll be watching Gutfeld! to see. He IS the new king of late night!!
Due to the fact that for millions of us he’s on at 8/9p, he ain’t no king of anything.
Finally a “witch hunt” I can get behind.
Lock him up.
That is an insult to witches everywhere.
What a shame. Ha!
BEST DAY EVER!! Now finish this clown show please!!
Such a loser, the strangest thing about his presidency was evangelists loving him. Imagine loving Jesus and then trump. May Abrahams GOD curse him in this life and in the next.
Evangelists loved him because they made a deal with the devil: put up with Trump’s antics, and get their hand-picked, bible-thumping, God-fearing, hyper-Christian judiciary nominees confirmed. And it worked all the way up to the Supreme Court.
Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving dude.
I’ll save my rejoicing when they air him being perp walked.
so is anything going to be pre-empted tonight?
A porn star bringing down a former US president. This should be served with a burger and fries because this is SO America.
I think you mean “hamberder.” 🍔
It should have happened in 2016.
Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey hey hey! Goodbye! Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey hey hey! Goodbye!
If people would take politics out of it, they would realize he is a criminal. There was an article before the 2016 election about all the contractors he hadn’t paid. His family scammed a charity that was supposed to help children with cancer. This is really just the tip of the iceberg. Granted, he also wouldn’t have the distinction of only current/former President to be indicted had Ford not pardoned Nixon. But people really need to start looking at facts and not just listening to blowhards. He would be getting charged regardless of his political affiliation – if not for this, then for one of his many other criminal missteps along the way.
Preach JD preach. People think that because he was on the Apprentice that he was a business genius – NOT!! Don’t forget his fake university and other business ventures. This is a man who can’t even put together a coherent sentence. He has caused many people to lose their businesses and homes because he is a grifter and that started long before he became President.
Hey now, it takes real business acumen to fail with a casino…
🤣🤣🤣 or just stupidity.😉
His success was inherited from his father’s leftovers. The tax payers bailed him out of bankruptcy and he pays comparatively little in taxes himself.
About damned time.
I mean… I don’t know any more than anybody else knows about this New York indictment. I do know that Trump incited a violent attempt to overthrow an American election and he pressured Georgia officials to overthrow their election results. He should be indicted for both of those crimes and to never be allowed to run for any office again.
At the end of the day, he’s still going to be the Republican nominee for president in the 2024 election. The Republicans will rally around him, just as always. It will take the more serious indictments to get anywhere.
If not, he will run as an independent. There is a lot of money to be taken, er, raised…
Wonderful news. I hope they put this POS behind bars. Can’t wait to see the mugshot.
What happens next? My guess: the same thing that happened after *both* of his impeachments: A whole lot of nothin’.
This isn’t a show. I don’t care.
It’s enough with the s***stain that is American Politics.
There’s plenty of websites for that where I can go if I want to vomit over Current President Dementia Dictator or Former President Grab em by the you know what.
Just please tell me he can never run for President or any other political office ever again.
He is “expected” to surrender next week. I can’t see him simply surrender to authorities. It will likely be January 6th Part 2 with him whipping his supporters into another frenzy and the Republican party looking the other way. I really miss the centered voice of reason.
I suppose a media frenzy a la OJ. Politics aside, no one person is above the law. I worry for our country as the questions of lawlessness and poor character threaten all what many fight and die for.
Ha! Trump is already selling commemorative t-shirts with the indictment date…
I Think Donald Trump Is involve with Occult/Witchcraft/Voodoo/paganism.
I Think Republican Party Is PRO-Pedophilia
What is wrong with you?
