ABC has waved its magic wand and added a pair of new series to its primetime lineup.
The network has ordered magician drama Deception and divorce sitcom Splitting Up Together to series, TVLine has learned.
Deception stars Jack Cutmore-Scott (Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life) as a disgraced magician who puts his skills of deception and illusion to work as an FBI consultant, helping the feds catch the world’s most elusive criminals. Chuck executive producer Chris Fedak is the creator/EP, and Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) and Martin Gero (Blindspot) are onboard as EPs as well.
Splitting Up Together stars Jenna Fischer (The Office) and Oliver Hudson (Scream Queens) as a divorced couple whose relationship improves dramatically after they’re officially split up. Bobby Lee (MADtv) and Diane Farr (Rescue Me) co-star. Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory) is the creator, with Ellen DeGeneres serving as an EP.
ABC announced five additional new series on Thursday, including new roles for Zach Braff and Jason Ritter.

I knew ABC had a few more orders to make as does Fox
I was hoping Deception would get picked up. That sounded cool.
I liked it when it was called “The Mentalist”
I liked it even better when it was called “The Magician” with Bill Bixby. Uh oh, giving my age away.
Since my weeknight tv viewing has more holes than a good Swiss cheese, I’ll probably give these two a try; they sound better than nothing.
So “The Mentalist” is back…
That was my first thought. I’m guessing they are going more towards visual illusions than mental manipulation though.
And Elementary…or any other show where the FBI or NYPD needs to bring in a special consultant to….
Actually, The Magician with Bill Bixby is back. Everything old is new again…
Was thinking the same thing
After cancelling Last Man Standing, ABC is banned from my home. Plenty of other channels to watch……….
That show was too expensive. Tim wasn’t cheap
ABC is also the network that put the show on the air and kept it around for a long run, but I guess you aren’t grateful for that, hmm?
I saw Deception and thought of the same named show from a few years ago, not a budget US version of Jonathan Creek.
Did ABC not pick up the Marc Cherry drama starring Reba? I was looking forward to it.
That may have been the one new show I’d watch. Reba is generally gold
Imo they both look like they will be canceled before the 1st season rolls out
I agree. Looks like a very bad season ahead. Doesn’t look like any good shows for fall. Glad I cancelled dish network.
‘Splitting Up Together’ is a terrible title, but I’ll give it a shot. ABC does a decent job with family comedies.
What about the new one called SWAT saw a trailer and write up and it looked like it could be a good one.
