Capping drips and drabs on the BTS photo front (in which two or a few actors posed together), an especially super group shot has surfaced from the Arrrowverse‘s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
Though its origin has yet to be confirmed, the on-set photo — taken aboard Legends of Tomorrow‘s Waverider — features 11 cast members representing Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends and new invitee, Black Lightning. It also offers a first look at two new characters, Pariah and Ryan Choi.
Specifically, going counter-clockwise from the bottom left, you have LaMonica Garrett as The Monitor, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Tom Cavanagh as Pariah, Audrey Marie Anderson as Harbinger, Brandon Routh as Kingdom Come Superman, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Grant Gustin as The Flash, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Hartley Sawyer as The Elongated Man, Osric Chau (Supernatural) as Ryan Choi, and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
Pariah, in DC Comics lore, was a scientist whose experiments led to the malevolent Anti-Monitor learning of Earth’s existence, while Ryan Choi is fated to become a new version of The Atom (currently the alter ego of Legends‘ Ray Palmer).
Harbinger, as previously reported, is an assistant of sorts to the benevolent Monitor — and at this time it is unclear her connection to Arrow‘s own Lyla Michaels.
Previewing the Arrowverse’s take on “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace told TVLine, “When you see who’s playing some of the major characters… there is a reason why Tom Cavanagh is Pariah. It’s not coincidence, and you need to watch this season of The Flash to understand that.
“Same thing with the person who ends up being Harbinger,” Wallace continued. “It will make so much sense to you, you will go, ‘How did I not see that coming?’” — seeing as Harbinger was established as Lyla’s ARGUS code name back in Arrow Season 1.
“We are trying to pay off as many things as possible,” Wallace said. “We’re trying to honor some things we hope people will notice and enjoy.”
So great to see Osric joining the cast! Makes me wonder if they’ll have him join LoT after Brandon (sadly) leaves. I’m still surprised they invited Black Lightning to the Arrowverse, but I’m here for it. There’s so many people in this crossover event!
I wonder if Black Lightning is ACTUALLY in the Arrowverse, or if he’s in the Arrowverse in the same way that Tom Welling’s Superman/Smallville is in now in the Arrowverse since they’re doing a big multiverse arc with this crossover.
But if they’re true to the comics, then Black Lightning WILL be in the Arrowverse, and Tom Welling will go the way of Superboy…. ;)
I’m behind on The Flash—my DVR decided not to record it last season and I discovered it too late—and the only other DC show that i watch is Legends, but I will probably watch this. Or will it all be too confusing for me? But I want to know how will they reconcile Ray and BR’s Superman?
Well BR is playing two different characters from different Earths. In the comics just because you’re a particular kind of superhero/villain doesn’t mean you’re the same one on another Earth. There’s literally decades of comics on this. For example, Earth-11’s Wonder Woman is a man, Wonder Man and the Amazons are men. Earth-23’s WW is of African descent and named Nubia. Earth-3’s villains are all evil versions of the Justice League. So I’m pretty sure they’ll go that route.
Same way that John Wesley Shipp is Henry Allen, Jay Garrick, and Barry Allen. Different Earths, different identity.
And Erica Durance is the Smallville Lois Lane, whatever Earth Smallville is on, and the Earth-38 Alura, Kara’s biological mother.
Netflix has all of last season. If you don’t have it, you could always subscribe for a month, binge the season, then cancel the subscription.
Happy to see Tom Welling looking good. He hasn’t been in the public spotlight much since Smallville ended so any positive exposure for him is appreciated.
Tom Welling was on Lucifer for the third season.
Just think of they actually brought Lucifer in for a quick cameo!
Well, they could. From what I understand, Lucifer is part of the DC/Vertigo universe and was once Constantine’s lover.
If they’re bringing in people from Vertigo Comics them we be seeing the IZombie gang again I would love that.
That could be a new CW series.😃
They apparently are. He’s been seen dressed as Lucifer on the Crisis sets.
I saw a story online claiming that was happening; well sort of. They said Tom Ellis was seen on set and they wondered if that was what was happening.
Holy crap lylas harbinger!!!
I mean I know she was harbinger before, wasn’t she? but she’s got a suit now and everything I missed most of the last season of arrow and haven’t caught up did she have the suit last season.
John has a GREEN RING on!
It’s ridiculous how Tyler looks the least imposing character in this picture. He is such a poor casting for the Superman role.
I think his acting as Superman on ‘Supergirl’ has been good, so at least there’s that, but he is such a little guy compared to every other contemporary actor who has played the role, it’s hard for me to get past. Especially in scenes with Melissa Benoist, as she looks taller than he does! He’s likable and seems to be a decent actor, but he really is physically wrong for the role of Superman, IMHO.
I guess they wanted a Superman that Supergirl could plausibly look like she could beat up. She’s almost as muscular.
