We wish we could say it’s something happy or romantic that has Matt Casey back in the Windy City during tonight’s Chicago Fire season finale (NBC, 9/8c), but unfortunately, it’s far more ominous than that.
In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from the episode, Casey calls his pal Stella, who has found an “extremely destructive” bullet that indicates that there may be a larger threat to the city. The weapon also has ties to a militia group, Casey notes, before instructing Stella to immediately inform her Department of Homeland Security task force contact.
As for Casey, the potential threat of a domestic terrorist attack against his hometown has him hopping on a red-eye flight to Chicago ASAP. “I think we’re looking at exactly what those guys [at DHS] have been warning us about,” he says forbiddingly.
While Jesse Spencer reprises his role as Casey in the May 24 season ender, someone else will be MIA: Taylor Kinney, who plays Kelly Severide, will not appear in the episode. It was announced in January that Kinney is taking a leave of absence from the NBC drama to deal with a personal matter. The actor last appeared in the Feb. 22 installment, and his character’s absence was explained in the March 1 episode, when it was revealed that Severide had gone to Alabama for an arson investigation training program. But in the May 17 installment, Stella learned from Cruz that her husband is no longer in Alabama and is instead helping with a big ATF investigation.

Fish or cut bait Taylor Kinney! I’m not a huge fan of Jesse Spencer nor his romance with Kara Killmer; just no real chemistry. The supporting cast is great, drama and lots of laughs too. I hope next season is better.
You’ve got to be kidding me?! Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett do have real chemistry together romantically. They were better than Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson ever was. Besides Matt Casey really truly loves Sylvie Brett and Sylvie Brett still loves Matt Casey. To be honest she had never loved any man other than the way she had loved Matt Casey why did she ever regret being with Granger and now Dylan? Because she’s in love with Matt Casey.
Kara and Jesse are not together….. you do know actors are not their characters, right?
Sylvite’s becoming a real basket case over this baby. She adopts the baby and instead of concentrating on the job she’ll be worrying about the baby.
Writers better figure something out fast. Fire is rapidly becoming the Stella Kidd show. Nope, no way.
Please enlighten us as to why it’s a Stella Kidd show. Taylor Kinney is on a leave of absence from the show and Kidd is the officer of Truck 81. She has the same position that Jesse Spencer had for 10 years did you complain it was the Casey show? Nearly every episode had him as the main character in every episode and stories revolved around him. So since she is the officer on 81 you have to expect her in every episode. Without Severide being in the mix what do you expect. Nearly every character this season has had major stories, Violet, Herrmann, Cindy & their family, Gallo, Cruz and Ritter. The officers of Truck 81 and Squad 3 were co-leads so what would you have them do with Kidd have her stay at the firehouse so she wouldn’t be in a lot of scenes? I never heard anyone complain that more stories were about him than Severide but some people act like Kidd is getting more airtime then Casey did as officer of 81 and that isn’t true.
