Chicago Fire Co-Creator Leaving Series

There are a couple fewer people in the Windy City: Executive producers on NBC’s Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are leaving their respective series, our sister site Deadline reports.
Chicago Fire is losing co-creator Michael Brandt, who is an executive producer and co-showrunner on the Dick Wolf drama. EP and director Joe Chappelle also is leaving the firefighter series. Derek Haas, who has been running the show with Brandt, will continue solo in Season 5.
Chicago P.D. EP and director Mark Tinker is leaving his post, as well. He follows EP Matt Olmstead, who is stepping down as showrunner after that show’s current fourth season.
Both Chicago Fire and P.D., as well as sister series Chicago Med, have been renewed for another season.

Are these executive producers leaving to go to new shows?
Am I the only one who thinks it’s weird that we haven’t heard about Chicago Justice?
They may be waiting to see how the finale does ratings wise on Sunday
They usually release their schedule tomorrow which is the day before their Upfront. If it does come back I’m assuming it’ll be midseason.

The Chicago franchise is in trouble. All these changes, lower ratings than ever, possible cancellation of Justice. Maybe NBC is looking to get out of the Chi franchise.
Doubt it highly, the ratings have suffered a drop but not a major drop the only main change is the executive producers leaving the shows which ep’s can also be replaced just like a showrunner can. And for Chicago Justice, my thoughts is that they are waiting for the finale ratings to come in first. All Chicago shows still pull in above 5 million viewers each week and each show reaches to 7-10 million viewers after DVR and 3 days are added in, so the ratings are not and if they were looking at getting out of the franchise they wouldn’t have for one ordered Chicago justice go series and forntwo they would not have renewed three of the franchise they would have made it where the current season finale would have been written as a series finale first but Chicago Fire is going into its sixth season, Chicago PD isngoing into its fifth season and Med is going into its third season on the air coming this fall. So ratings-LIE and possibly getting out-LIE. Chicago justice did start just earlier this year around March 5th is when it first started and the other three have had a whole fall season to deal with ratings while justice has only had maybe two months to deal with getting strong ratings and the show does get some bad ratings here and there but every show does just look at Grey’s anatomy for example when it first started it was getting 20 million viewers every episode and now it even struggles to get 8 million viewers live and it is still going strong and the Chicago franchise top NBC’s best rated shows, fire is second best on NBC, pd is third while Med is about 4th and justice is sixth.
All ratings are down as more people cut the cord or go to sling/vue which r not rated. Plus who wants to sit thru 20min of commercials per hour. Also, Justice is not very good to me.
I’m not concerned here as the Dick Wolf brand has its own consistent storytelling style that I’m sure will continue regardless of showrunner. But I do think all this EP juggling on network TV is one reason why cable is winning the battle on quality. Pretty much every season I read about network EPs leaving or jumping to new shows, and usually the show they leave behind suffers as a result. There are always exceptions, of course. Ryan Murphy can mess up a great cable season when his ideas go off the rails. And conversely Shonda Rhimes has essentially become the Dick Wolf of ABC by having her own programming “brand” within the network that she’s stuck to. But that should belie how the original EP sticking with a project helps the show. I’m thinking of Noah Hawley, Vince Gilligan, Benioff and Weiss, and so on. Networks should stop playing hot potato with EPs, scrabbling for new hits instead of cultivating the ones they have.

I would be upset if we lost any of the Chicago series. I look forward to seeing them each week. I do have cable but watch most everything on hulu because we watch a lot of sports. We don’t have dvr. I wish “cord cutters” would count as well. After all, we are still watching the shows.

I’m hoping that means we might see Burgess and Ruzek back together. I could easily be wrong, but Olmstead seemed to be the driving force behind not developing that fractured relationship to a place of healing. It does happen on cable shows too though. Seems like society in general has turned into a job hopping one.
