AFC Richmond may not be destined for football glory, but the team will triumph at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, if TVLine readers have anything to say about it.
Back in August, we asked you to weigh in on 15 different Emmy polls, selecting the shows and actors you think should win in the major categories at this month’s ceremony. And on the comedy side, at least, there was a clear favorite: Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, which reigned supreme in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, as well as in the Lead Actor, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor in a Comedy competitions.
HBO Max freshman Hacks was the only other comedy to lead a TVLine poll, with star Jean Smart earning a hypothetical win for Lead Actress in a Comedy. But on the drama side, there was a little more variety to the victors, with FX’s Pose, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Netflix’s The Crown and Bridgerton all represented in the winner’s circle.
Across all 15 polls, the most decisive victory went to Jason Sudeikis, whose turn as Ted Lasso‘s titular coach earned a staggering 71.3 percent of your votes in the Lead Actor in a Comedy category. But not every contest was a runaway: The races for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama and Outstanding Limited Series both came down to the wire, with Handmaid’s Tale‘s Max Minghella and Mare of Easttown ultimately emerging victorious, respectively.
Of course, this is all speculative for now. For the real winners of this year’s Primetime Emmys, you’ll have to watch the live ceremony airing Sunday, Sept. 19, at 8/7c on CBS. The Neighborhood star Cedric the Entertainer will host.
