We don’t have to wait until December to kick off our Year in Review. (And if we do… well, we’re breaking those rules!)
In the last six months, 2022 has already gifted us dozens of standout shows. Thus, in the spirit of ’22 — and in the spirit of making as few painful cuts from the list as possible — we’re taking stock of the 22 best series of the year so far.
The list below features quite a few members of TV’s freshman class, which impressed us with their superb rookie runs. Apple TV+’s sprawling family saga Pachinko, ABC’s workplace sitcom Abbott Elementary and HBO Max’s wickedly funny Peacemaker are all among the newbies that have stood out with distinct voices and unique storytelling.
Let’s not count out the long-running veterans, though: NBC’s This Is Us (which stuck the landing after six emotional years), Prime Video’s The Boys (very much worth the two-year wait) and HBO’s Barry (better than ever in its third season) made the cut, too, as did existing gems like Netflix’s phenom Stranger Things and AMC’s soon-to-conclude Better Call Saul.
But as much as we love a good spoiler here at TVLine, we won’t ruin the entire list for you. Keep scrolling to see our picks for 2022’s best shows so far, then drop a comment with your own favorites!
