Clarke Griffin’s fight may be over after Wednesday’s series finale, but our days in the world of The 100 aren’t necessarily numbered.
The status of the sci-fi drama’s proposed spinoff, potentially titled The 100: Second Dawn, remains “up in the air,” showrunner Jason Rothenberg tells TVLine. “The conversations are now happening at such a high level, they don’t include me. I hope to get a call one of these days and get some good news about it. I’d love to be able to continue those adventures. I love those actors and I love the world of the show so much.”
Set 97 years before the events of The 100, the potential spinoff was introduced through a backdoor pilot in the show’s final season. The episode introduced viewers to Cadogan’s daughter Callie (played by Iola Evans) and son Reese (played by Adain Bradley), each of whom hold vastly different opinions about their father. Leo Howard, who played a young musician named August in the backdoor pilot, was recently made a series regular on The CW’s Legacies.
Rothenberg shared some of his ideas for the prequel with TVLine, including “Lost-style flashback episodes” to pre-apocalypse times, as well as a plan to get the characters up to space at some point. “Clarke’s great, great, great grandparents are up there on the Ark,” he noted. “Same with Bellamy, Raven and all the characters. I have a plan to get us up there and meet the ancestors. If we’re lucky enough to tell that story, we’ll meet Great Great Grandpappy Blake.”

lol. nobody wants this anymore after jason ruined the 100 in the last season.
I’m interested, I hope it gets picked up, I thought the back door pilot had a lot of potential for a series moving forward
i mean, sure it could be interesting. i just don’t trust jason at all after how much i hated season 7.
I agree. I don’t want to watch anything else that he ever is involved in.
Am I the only one would rather see life on the Arc in space? They had 4-5 arcs, it might be interesting? As long as Jason isn’t involved I’m on board.
They had 1 arc made of 12 stations that came together on UNITY day. After Becca’s station (after she escaped in the pod) was blown out of the sky for not initiating docking maneuvers. I def want the spinoff to include mount weather. the arc and the origin of the grounders.
Definitely interested in seeing the beginnings of the grounders!
Nothing was ”ruined”, stop whining. If you don’t like something, deal with it like adult not like a spoilt brat, many people still enjoyed this season despite the faults it had. So speak for yourself only!
I think she is speaking for herself. Thats the point of the board and the question? A lot of people do think the last season ruined the series for us. I personally wont watch another series he is in charge of again. The goal of a showrunner should be to reward viewers for loyalty not to leave them feeling confused and unsatified by a shows ending.
For people like you, “confused and unsatisfied” is that we got that GoT ending.
thank you
I’ll pass.
You couldn’t pay me to watch another JRoth show.
Agreed
I AGREE 100%. Now, if they’d get rid of Jason I’d be up for this show!
yep
Just let it go. I really do believe this show SHOULD have ended with the season 5 finale. It was a good way to go out but they just kept milking it and the literal series finale went out with a whimper for me.
I hope this prequel series does NOT go forward.
Well not like you have to watch it
Season fives ending is the exact reason I don’t watch movies. Being left in the in complete uncertainty of what happens next. It was extremely unlikely for anyone in the bunker to survive. And life wouldn’t have made it too far in space.
Dude wrong season… your talking about season 4 ending
I was just thinking this. They should have ended it right when the earth was destroyed and they went up into space. It went down hill right after that in my opinion. I did find the prequel stuff interesting and would like to see that show made though.
covid issues aside, i dont for the life of me understand why in the tv industry they announce so many shows and take forever to get them made, like development hell, if no one is sick, pregnant, something like that, then it comes down to pure laziness
It’s because obviously there will be no decision on this until they see how the finale of the 100 goes.
I mean look at Game of Thrones, they had a billion spin offs in the works and after the finale they’re barely down to 1.
They want to make sure people are interested first. And the people working on those shows want to try and buzz things to hope and generate interest to get the greenlight for the project.
im not just referring to this show but alot of shows in general
That’s a no from me. I’d maybe read it as a book, but we already know how it ends.
To books are different than the tv show
Hope Jason gets screwed, just like he screwed all of us.
How did he screw you? Because you didn’t like how a character was portrayed? So you have to trash every mention of him? There’s horrible things going on all around the world, why is this negativity about a tv show creator your focus?
Shhhh
It’s sad that brats can’t appreciate an amazing ending to an amazing show. I support JRoth fully with what he did. Life isn’t perfect & neither should the social dynamics of a show. If you want sunshine & rainbows – read a fairly tale for 2 year olds. Oh wait… Those aren’t always great either. Guess you’re screwed. The world doesn’t cater to you!
You know what’s sad, having the name “Smart Guy”. You keep using it and maybe someday you will believe it, doubtful anyone else will. I have said a few times before that this is a board for television opinions. I shhhh’d my friend George because he felt I should be speaking about the state of the world at this time. My opinion was that after spending 7 years watching The 100 it was ruined for me. Im not alone in this. I haven’t argued with anyone else or critized them for their opinion on the series. I feel they did a disservice to fans. Obviously you enjoyed the last year. Good for you SG, but not my problem. I have no idea where you are from but if you feel the need to state that you are “smart” in your username maybe you come from somewhere where free speech is not encouraged and you have to constantly reassure yourself that you are indeed important. Calling someone a “brat” lol though for having a different opion than you doesn’t really help your case.
I would love to see spin off of the 100 please make it happen
Its a comment board on a tv show you tit. It doesn’t keep me up at night lmao. Why would I talk about covid or BLM? Focus George.
Clearly it does. Your obsession makes me think that Jason Rothenberg needs a restraining order. Get a grip.
I think you might be obsessed with me. Im worried about you man. Where are you getting this from? Am I miffed that JR made some seriously bad choices in the last season of a show I watched for 7 years…yes. Am i a little sick of producers egos dictating the poor direction of television in general…yeppers. Am i obsessed…uh yeah no? Again this is a comment board for television. Venting is allowed. Not sure if you are upset I called you a tit, probably but that was a real silly thing for you to say man. I gotta run but you keep living the dream George.
Be betrayed the narrative he was telling. He spun it out in completely different direction and ignored the six seasons that came before 7, in order to tell a completely different story.
He betrayed good storytelling. It’s not about one character. It’s about BOTH lead characters being decimated. It’s about the show turning into something else entirely.
It was a story about humanity finding a way to once again thrive and he turned into a show about Aliens who ALLOW us transcend. Transcendence was never ON the table in the prior six seasons.
This was a HUMAN story. Leaving it Aliens allowing humans to do anything, really just is baffling.
This was CLARKE’s story and he decided at the last minute she was a never a hero and didn’t ‘outgrow’ her tribalism. When in reality she was the one who taught Lexa that life isn’t about Blood Must Have Blood. Clarke never killed for vengeance before this season, she never even killed for justice… it was always more complex than that, she had empathy, she was strategic. He stripped her down to the worse pieces of herself but not with any dept and declared her the VILLAIN?
In the last season CADOGAN the bad guy turns out to be right. Bellamy the heart character is stripped of his core personality and left to dead by Clarke — when it turns out HE WAS RIGHT.
And they never even have Clarke really grapple with that.
The last season was lazy and undermined the whole series.
Don’t tell people to just get over it cause they’re mad about ‘a character’.
There are VALID, storytelling and real criticisms to be made. And NO, I will never trust Jason Rothenberg to do well by a story he is telling ever again.
You are awesome! Exactly right on all points Rachel. Thank you for saying what I was thinking.
im glad they took it a different direction, i was getting bored to death watching the ark people vs grounders over and over and over
Jason screwed the entire show. Most of Clark’s Killing decisions were justified except when she killed Bellamy. She could have at least shot him in both knees so he couldn’t walk for an episode or two.
this issue has been brought up before, she could have done that and would have had to drag him while fighting off the other disciples, drag him through the anomaly and hope there were supplies to keep him bandaged up and not go to find bill
like its an almost impossible situation to be in and she tried talking bellamy out of it and i think she regrets bellamy more than anyone she ever killled, she will live with that regret for the rest of her life
How did he screw us? I loved the ending of the show and can’t wait for the potential Prequel
You are a completely right Ally. Jason Rothenberg is a little man with a disgusting sense of self importance. He is arrogant, petty, spiteful and ruined the last season of his show. There is nothing that would make me watch any trash he would create. Again, you were spot on Ally.
Thanks girl!
Leo Howard, the actor who played August in the pilot, being promoted to series regular on Legacies doesn’t bode well for this show. I would’ve wanted it to get picked up to series but I mean, we all know how the story ends, so, it’s not that interesting, is it?
i still dont get why they need to make this show, what needs answered in it we didnt find out on the main show that at the same time can only be answered within the span of all stories before the 100 get dropped to the ground
I’m not sure it’s a story that needs to be told either, but I would give it a shot. It might’ve been more interesting to see the focus be on the society before the apocalypse, but I guess he did mention some flashbacks.
i see
“Great Great Great grandparents “?!
It was onl 97 years later, dude.
Exactly! It would be more like her grand parents. Maybe great grandparents but that may be pushing it
no the prequel series is set 97 years before when the 100 started, i believe withy the first extinction style event for earth
No lo vería, no volveré a ver nada de jrothemberg para mí fue un fracaso la s7 perdió el rumbo y la serie se volvió horrible
Its totally possible if each child has a child even at 23 Its possible considering girls can get pregnant from as young as 9. Open your imagination à bit more.
I would have watched the prequel honestly I would have but now with how the main show ended and how that made me feel I won’t take the risk of ending up here again.
I mean he was obviously trying to tease another bellarke style bynamic in the pilot, and we all know how that ended. However there’s more than just that I was watching the show right from the beginning and it ended with a massive copout which was also a ripoff so not a satisfying ending. So again I won’t take the risk of ending up here again.
I hope the spin off happens! Please
Anything where we can see more of Bellamy, his death was the end of “the 100” I would love to see another season where they open a portal to welcome back the death.
Yes yes yes
If we want to be honest, no really need and no interest in seeing the ancestors of Bellamy and Clarke. Especially in the form of a tv series. You could have a prequel movie or a limited tv series of 6 episodes at most. Then, you could have another prequel series centering specifically on the history of the grounders. You could also have Shedheida in his original form-body and Indra’s mother at some point and also introduce Indra as a child
I would never watch anything by Jason Rothenburg again after the disaster he made of The 10/ season 7 and the finale. Shame, should have followed the books closely for entire show. Killing Bellamy such a poor choice.
I domt wamt this series to end. Some seasons were better then orhers but hope the adventure keeps going
They successfully killed my interest for the show, with the way this season turned out. I’d just be watching these people and thinking, “Why bother. It’s all doomed to failure anyway”. Like watching passengers climb onboard a cruise ship that’s scheduled to sink with all hand’s lost..I mean, at least some people made it off the Titanic.
As much as I want this, if it’s a choice between this and the Green Arrow and the Canaries, I want Green Arrow and the Canaries to be picked up instead.
Agreed. That’s a story without an ending. And it kind of screws up Ollie’s legacy if they don’t finish it.
I don’t think it should be a spin-off and if they just have to have one show us how the remaining crew lives off the land not taking us way back when! I’m satisfied with how it ended don’t carry on when it’s no need to. A lot of series ends horribly but this wasn’t one of them so leave it at that on the good foot.
I love the 100 series and would like the opportunity to watch the Second Dawn. If the CW won’t back it, maybe Netflix will.
I think Netflix or Amazon Prime or hulu should pick it up, It could open up more options. It seemed like the last 2 seasons were limited on funding, scenes were limited to small areas versus the 1st 4-5 season’s when it seemed more open world. But Id really like to see more of the 100, but with a couple more Producers.
I would absolutely love a spin-off this has been my favorite show since I found it. I was always #teambellark and im actually curious about how the language and tribes came to be, please continue this magic.
I enjoyed the 100/series, but all good thing come to and end. And I feel its done. Let it be. Time some sonerhing new and fresh to binge watch.
I’m going to keep it simple plz plz plz keep me updated, I hope the show goes on.
I NEED more of The 100. I believe it was the absolutely best show I’ve ever watched throughout the entire series. It was heartbreaking for Brittany to be killed of the site. But I’m super excited for anything The 100.
