Whether you’re an OG fan or new to the Powerverse, we figured we’d throw together a little rundown of the old and new faces you’ll see in the series’ first spinoff, Book II: Ghost.

Per the dictates of Ghost’s will, his and Tasha’s only son enrolls in Stansfield University at the start of the spinoff. But it’s not all freshman year hijinks and frat parties for the newly annointed man of the house. “It’s definitely hard for Tariq. I mean, he just killed his father, his mom is in jail for something he did, so he definitely feels terrible about that,” portrayer Michael Rainey Jr. says. “He has to really just take everything on, man up and take on the responsibilities he has.” Translation: If you thought Yaz’s brother was going to suddenly abandon his nascent drug business, think again. But don’t expect the spinoff to be quite as dark as its predecessor. “It’s a whole different type of energy to the show now,” he adds. “Tariq is in school now, he’s around more people his age. It’s more youthful.”

Ghost’s estranged wife “definitely did not see this coming,” Naturi Naughton says of her character, laughing. “She’s totally f–ked.” When the spinoff begins, Tasha looks considerably less glam than she does here, thanks to her new home: a jail cell, where she’s landed after taking the fall for her hubby’s murder. But don’t count Mrs. St. Patrick out just yet, says showrunner Courtney Kemp: “Yes, she is screwed, but she’s not dead. Angela’s dead. LaKeisha’s dead… Tasha can rise to live again.”

The woman played by Grammy winner Mary J. Blige is a mystery going into the spinoff, and she doesn’t have a ton of lines in the premiere, but Monet’s mere presence speaks volumes. And when we asked executive producer Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson to place her on the spectrum of other Power players like Ghost and Tommy, he said: “She’s as dangerous as those other characters would be to a person who’s in that lifestyle” and hinted “she’s in charge of everything.” Consider yourself warned.

Just because he’s the newly annointed head of the U.S. Attorney’s office, don’t think that Shane Johnson’s character (aka Angela Valdes’ former frenemy) has his act together — or that he’s not still at the whim of more powerful men with agendas of their own.

We don’t want to spoil too much, but Melanie Liburd’s character is a professor at Stansfield who becomes involved in Tariq’s matriculation. Smart and seemingly kind-hearted, she may or may not be hiding a rather intriguing secret or two…

Clifford Smith — better known as rap’s Method Man — plays a flashy defense attorney named Davis Maclean, who crosses paths with the St. Patricks midway through the spinoff’s premiere. “He’s a brilliant man, he’s highly motivated, he needs conflict,” Smith says of the legal star. “He needs to challenge himself constantly.” He adds that lawyers like his on-screen alter ego don’t just want to win, they want to have proven something along the way. “So when he’s drawn into the St. Patricks’ world of turmoil, despair, murder, mayhem, and drugs,” Smith explains, “he focuses on one motivator, and that is his winning.”
