PREDICTION | After acquiescing to their demand for a reduced workload, ABC will announce that Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey will be back for approximately two-thirds of Grey’s Anatomy‘s 11th season.

OUTCOME | Workload shmerkload. Pompeo and Dempsey re-signed for not just Season 11 but 12 to boot — and with zero of the MerDer drama visibly waning.

  • Dirty Laundry

PREDICTION | During a big sweeps episode, Elementary will kill off Detective Marcus Bell.

OUTCOME | Bell got shot during a December episode, and temporarily lost his ability to handle a firearm, but he’s still alive and kicking!

  • The X Factor

PREDICTION | Reeling from double-digit ratings drops for its pair of reality singing competitions, Fox will cancel The X Factor and shell out big bucks and an executive producer credit for Simon Cowell to return to American Idol.

OUTCOME | X Factor got axed all right, but — thus far at least — there’s no talk of Simon riding to lagging Idol‘s rescue.

  • 132840_GROUPr1

PREDICTION | Before the fairy dust barely settles on the 11-episode Neverland arc, Once Upon a Time will dip its toe into the Wizard of Oz waters, lest they be last to the party behind the pilots at Syfy, CBS, NBC and The CW.

OUTCOME | Nailed it! At the close of the midseason finale, Once teased the imminent arrival of The Wicked Witch, who played a central role in the back half of the season.

  • And The Law Won

PREDICTION | The Good Wife will write out the character of Kalinda by February sweeps.

OUTCOME | The CBS drama made a far bolder move, killing off an even bigger character, in March.

  • MOM

PREDICTION | To increase the actresses’ screen time together, CBS’ Mom will have Alison Janney’s character working alongside her waitress-daughter Anna Faris by October.

OUTCOME | Didn’t happen, nor has the show been at a loss for ways to keep Bonnie and Christy together, for better or for worse.

  • SHIELD

PREDICTION | Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will give ABC its best drama debut numbers since Once Upon a Time, then settle in at about 30 percent lower by Week 3. Also: Due to rumored creative tinkering/last-minute rewrites, the show will go on hiatus sooner than planned.

OUTCOME | S.H.I.E.L.D. stands as all of TV’s highest-rated drama debut in nearly four years, opening with a 4.7 rating — though that demo number ebbed a good 35 percent by Week 3 and was down a full 60 percent by the finale. And the “earlier hiatus” thing? Didn’t happen.

  • The Proton Resurgence

PREDICTION | The Big Bang Theory, despite vowing to stay away from this type of plot, will impregnate Bernadette.

  • predictions_sleepyhollow

PREDICTION | Sleepy Hollow will find some way to get Nicole Beharie’s uniformed cop Abbie into a cocktail dress.

OUTCOME | Abbie, alas, never glammed up — though Ichabod shimmying into some skinny jeans was absopositivalutely the next best thing.

  • CHARLES ESTEN, HAYDEN PANETTIERE

PREDICTION | In a moment of great emotional turmoil, Nashville‘s Juliette and Deacon will hook up again.

OUTCOME | Of Juliette’s assorted Season 2 conquests, Deacon Redux was not among them.

  • predictions_themindyproject

PREDICTION | The Mindy Project will feature guest appearances by at least two more of Mindy Kaling’s former Office mates.

OUTCOME | Even if you count occasional Office guest star Timothy Olyphant, we fell one shy of our guesstimation.

  • NICK WECHSLER

PREDICTION | After some initial (really) hard feelings, Jack will join Emily and Nolan’s tiny band of Revengers.

OUTCOME | Having become privy to Emily’s true identity, Jack has here and there chipped in on her plot to take down the Graysons.

  • Scandal

PREDICTION | Scandal will bring on Grey’s Anatomy alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a possible illicit love interest for Mellie.

OUTCOME | So close — though in our defense, “Jon Tenney” is an anagram for “Jeffrey Dean Morgan.” Almost. OK, we’re bad at anagrams.

  • Community - Season 4

PREDICTION | Dan Harmon’s return to Community will be a triumphant one creatively, but, alas, low ratings will lead NBC to pull the plug on the cult comedy at the end of this season. (Five seasons and a movie, anyone?)

OUTCOME | Sigh. Sometimes we hate being right.

  • SOA

PREDICTION | After miraculously cheating death time and again, Sons of Anarchy‘s Juice won’t make it out of Season 6 alive.

OUTCOME |The Season 6 finale left a couple of bodies in its wake, but this guy manages to have more lives than a cat!

  • Parenthood - Season 4

PREDICTION | Parenthood will boldly go where it has never gone before — divorce court! — when marital woes push Joel and Julia to the breaking point in Season 5.

OUTCOME | Though they bumped up against said breaking point and even separated, thus far… thus far… no one has pulled the trigger on the D-word.

  • Glee

PREDICTION | Glee will slowly but steadily turn its focus toward New York City-based characters, leading Ryan Murphy to shut down the Lima, OH storylines for the show’s sixth and final season.

OUTCOME | Nailed it — though exactly where Season 6 will primarily be set remains to be confirmed.

  • 2012 Winter TCA Tour - Day 3

PREDICTION | Either Blake Shelton or Adam Levine (or perhaps both) will sit out The Voice‘s Spring 2014 edition — but the hiring of a massive recording artist along the lines of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Madonna will ensure continued buzz and ratings.

OUTCOME | Both of the boys stayed put for Season 6, while Shakira and Usher returned to spell Xtina and Cee Lo.

  • Pac-Man Fever

PREDICTION | In May, The CW will renew Supernatural for a 10th and final season, while at the same time announcing that the Chicago-based spin-off is DOA.

OUTCOME | Season 10 got the green light way back in February, while it was in mid-May that the Chicago-based Bloodlines spin-off was announced as DOA.

  • JAMES CROMWELL, HENRY THOMAS, WENDY MONIZ, ELIZABETH MCLAUGHLIN, BRAEDEN LEMASTERS, STUART TOWNSEND, HANNAH WARE, CHRIS JOHNSON

PREDICTION | …while ABC’s Sunday soap Betrayal will be the first cancellation.

OUTCOME | It was another ABC newbie, the decidedly unlucky Lucky 7, to first get lopped by the axe, after two outings. Betrayal (very) quietly finished its 13-episode run over the winter, ne’er to be heard from agin.

  • MALIN AKERMAN

PREDICTION | After Super Fun Night falls to less-than-super numbers in Week 2, ABC will eventually move Trophy Wife to the post-Modern Family time slot.

OUTCOME | Why, that would have made all the sense in the world, as we’d been saying since July! Alas, ABC never heard us, leaving Trophy Wife to miss out on the match-up it deserved and thus fall shy of a Season 2 renewal.

  • dads

PREDICTION | Fox will at first swap Dads and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, opening Tuesday with the stronger of the two. Next, Raising Hope is rescued from Fridays to replace the derided Dads.

OUTCOME | B99 actually wrapped its freshman run in the Tuesdays-at-9:30 slot, during Mindy‘s winter break. Meanwhile, Dads ended its one-and-done run right where it started it, and Raising Hope was left on Fridays to retire (permanently).

PREDICTION | One of How I Met Your Mother‘s final episodes will flash forward far into the future to show us an elderly Barney and Robin, Marshall and Lily, and Ted and the Mother sitting on the front porch. Also, famed Canadian Kim Cattrall will be cast as Robin’s never-before-seen mother.

OUTCOME | Though it’s conceivable that Barney, Marshall, Lily, Robin and Ted one day reunited on the porch as oldsters, the Mother aka Tracey was not meant to join them. Also: Instead of Canadian Cattrall, Robin’s mom took the form of Brit Tracey Ullman.

  • Bones

PREDICTION | A core member of the Bones cast (i.e. one of the six folks pictured above) will be killed off at the hands of the show’s new post-Pelant Big Bad.

OUTCOME | Though none of the core six died at her hand, the Ghost Killer (played by Kelly Rutherford) did have a connection to a Jeffersonian employee, being an old friend of Hodgins’ family.
