What’s that? Seeing La La Anthony perform alongside Ciara at the AMAs didn’t remind you that she played Brian Austin Green’s Beyoncé-inspired wife on the short-lived Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot? You must be new here.
After being shut out by Grammy voters — and addressing her fans’ concerns directly on social media — Halsey took her AMA win for Favorite Pop/Rock Song as an opportunity to speak her mind once again. “I’m so thankful to the AMAs, because they are the world’s largest fan-voted award show. I’m thankful to the fans … and I’m thankful to the AMAs for giving them a voice.”
Everybody loves a good showmance, but would it have killed Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello to do something — anything — to separate this televised performance of “Señorita” from the rest?
That said, we’re willing to forgive the couple’s bland performance, as it blessed us with the Taylor Swift/Billy Porter reaction shot we never knew we needed.
Speaking of Porter… Honestly, our heart goes out to whoever gets stuck sitting behind him at any awards show. That man loves a tall hat!
Toni Braxton slayed every second of her performance, ending it with a descent from a staircase, a dramatic strut and a well-deserved standing ovation. She un-broke our hearts all over again.
While accepting the award for New Artist of the Year, Billie Eilish thanked her family. Specifically, she thanked “my brother, who’s my best friend, and my mom. I don’t know where my dad went.”
Take note, younger viewers: Before there was TikTok, there was “TiK ToK.”
Clearly, Taran Killam was just as delighted by Kesha’s surprise throwback performance as we were.
Carrie Underwood wasn’t exaggerating — she really does cry pretty.
We never thought we’d hear an acoustic rendition of “God’s Plan” blend seamlessly into Shania Twain’s “Still the One,” yet here we are. (Also, Twain deserved better than to be squeezed in at the very end of the broadcast.)
Speaking of Shania Twain deserving better, did Ciara really need to bring Taylor Swift back on stage — in the middle of Twain’s applause! — just to let the viewers know that Swift has become the most decorated artist in AMAs history?
If Disney decides to make a live-action Goofy Movie, they have to at least let Lil Nas X audition.
