Is your favorite TV show in limbo? Or perhaps it’s been renewed, but last aired ages ago? TVLine’s here to help alleviate some confusion.
In this era of #PeakTV, it’s no longer expected that every series have a new season on the air year in and year out. Many of them — especially those on cable or streaming services — have the benefit of prolonged hiatuses. (Larry David, for instance, is notorious for taking extended breaks between seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm.)
Other shows meanwhile have been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a behind-the-scenes controversy or an unavoidable schedule change. Then there are those that have been taken to a farm Upstate (aka cancelled).
The following gallery provides the status of 21 “missing” shows, including critical darlings (such as Better Things, Documentary Now! and Master of None), binge-worthy gems (Degrassi: Next Class and The Man in the High Castle) and basic-cable faves (The Last Ship, Good Behavior, UnREAL and The Son).
Click through the slideshow above, then hit the comments and tell us which TV series you’re impatiently waiting for! And if your favorite show isn’t featured, be sure to check out our frequently updated Broadcast, Cable and Streaming Renewal Scorecards.
Holy Moly, I forgot about Scream. They dont care that much for this show, do they ?
The last season of Amy Schumer was trash, just after she became famous.
I think the problem is that the subject matter of violence in school makes them wary of scheduling it.
I think it actually has to do with Dimension Films and the limbo the studio is in because of Harvey Weinstein. One of the writers from the show tweeted something along the lines a few months ago.
That’s what I heard too. Filming was finished last November so it’s been in the can for a while now. I can see MTV airing the episodes in a block around Halloween. Either way, there’s a 99% chance that this is the last season anyway.
Pfft. If you’re an avid watcher of Scandi or British or any European drama you’re already used to any kind of hiatuses. 😌
I was just wondering about Insatiable, which was picked up by Netflix over a year ago. Any word when that will air?
It is very much happening. Remember, Netflix shows need to film all their episodes first. —Mgmt.
According to my friend who works in the crew, it will debut in August. At least that was their plan
Is Netflix’s Debby Ryan/Alyssa Milano show Insatiable still happening? I feel like i haven’t heard a thing about since it moved over from The CW.
Hmm, is Taboo season 2 happening? I think I remember it getting a renewal…
British shows sometimes have years between seasons. Tom Hardy is also very busy.
I read that Taboo Season 2 is starting to shoot in September 2018 for 2019 launch
Flaked(Netflix)
Dimenstion 404(Hulu)
Freakish(Hulu)
Altered Carbon (Netflix)
All MIA. I wish there would be news of their status.
Dimension 404 is done (limited anthology series). Check our Streaming Scorecard . —Mgmt.
There is a recent updat in Altered Carbon with cast and show runner changes- check recent news from this site for the update.
Your scorecard lists The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as renewed for 2 more seasons but no release date for Season 2. Any update?
Probably this fall like season 1
Just to confirm I’m reading right…unreal s4 is gonna air in Australia this month? Time to mute keywords to avoid spoilers till its eventually aired stateside I guess
Yup. It’s on Stan, which is a streaming service like Netflix, rather than broadcast, so you might not hear all that much about it since not everyone has it – they only just got 1 million subscribers – and a lot of people alternate services or pick only one, etc. It is not like it is on one of the major networks that everyone can access and gets a lot of advertising.
Is there anything about “Lovesick”? It’s one of my favorite UK/Netflix comedies and do know it’s hard to film now with the leads all being involved in other movies and TV shows in the US and UK. Haven’t heard anything since season 3 aired in January.
You mean someone actually misses Amy Schumer?
LOL!
The show is FUNNY
I swear I’m going old and gray waiting for “The Man In High Castle” to return. I do hope that season 3 has a proper ending though. With all the problems it has had behind the scenes, I am really not expecting a season 4.
There’s rumors it’s already been renewed for a 4th season and Rufus Sewell did a podcast interview saying there will be some announcements coming when he was asked if it was true. This was a few days before their Comic Con panel got announced so I think we’ll get the premiere date and renewal announcement then.
Thanks for that! It gives me hope.
Been waiting for The Man In The High Castle since January when it was suppose to air. Still waiting & its July. Heard there was a 4th season & we haven’t even seen the 3rd season yet. Hope to see it soon.
Outcast came to mind when I saw this article … a Google search indicates it’s coming back this month … finally!
And oddly season 2 aired in the UK over a year ago.
How about Angie Tribeca and Wrecked?
Angie was the first update listed
F is for Family?
Just when I started to get used to yearlong breaks thanks to Netflix, HBO and streaming services are starting to take 18-month to two-year breaks. I’m a fan of short seasons, but these long breaks are too much.
Any idea when Wrecked (TBS) will be coming back for season 3? I saw a commercial the other day for it, but it just says coming soon. I can’t find anything about a possible premiere date.
I’m looking for The OA. It came out in December 2016 and was renewed Feb 2017, but I haven’t seen anything else.
They just finished filming season 2 of the OA. I can’t wait for the next season….not sure if there is word out there yet of when the show will be released though.
The last ship must go on.
Still waiting for The Last Ship to sail into my living room. It’s been MIA for to long. Please bring on Captain Chandler & the crew of The Nathan James.
I read what you wrote for UnReal, and all I could think was WTH?
Took the words out of my mouth there. Things like this make me wonder why Lifetime bothers with scripted series at all.
IS HBO GOING TO RENEW “DIVORCE” FOR A 3RD SEASON?
Will be interesting to see if “Better Things” stays the same given the complete change of production and writing team
I’m waiting for the last ship. I don’t watch more than three hours of tv a week.
Berlin Station was renewed last year for a 3rd Season, with the announcement of a new show runner but until now there was no news about cast and when the show will return.
I have been trying to find out the status of “Date My Dad”. Has anyone heard anything about either a renewal or a cancellation? I liked that show.
HELPFUL HINT!!!: Youcan go to imdb, then enter the show’s name, once on the show info scroll down to “recent news” and it will show you recent articles from this site and/or all the sister sites mentioned at the bottom of this site.
Any word on a renewal for The Royals?
