Sunday’s episode of Berlin Station marks the end of the EPIX drama’s third season, one that proved to be an invaluable learning experience for star Keke Palmer. Much like her character, a young case officer who joined the team last year, Palmer says that working on the show has helped her “as a young person figuring out her role in the world and in the bigger scheme of things.”
“It’s been a crazy ride for me,” the actress tells TVLine. “Not only have I learned so much about life from my co-stars, who are all such great actors, but just going to Europe and learning about the world has been so cool. I got to go to Budapest this second time around, which was like culture shock in a cool way. Budapest doesn’t have as many American influences as Berlin.”
Palmer, whose diverse small-screen resume includes roles on everything from Scream Queens and Grease Live to Masters of Sex and 90210, says she was drawn to the role specifically because it was so different from anything she’s done before.
“I’ve always tried to be as diverse as possible, always wanting my hands in so many different things,” she says. “The tone of this show was much more serious. It felt like a genre I hadn’t stepped into yet, especially with all the politics and the CIA and the action work that I got to do.”
Also on the horizon for Palmer is a return to Fox’s Star, on which she recurs as Gravity Records’ premier artist GiGi Nixon. “She’s no longer the only star on the label,” Palmer says of her character, whose backstory will be explored more fully this season. “You’ll get to learn a lot more about GiGi’s family. Viewers were introduced to her as this very dramatic, lively personality. She’s a little bit wild. This season, you get to understand where she comes from and how she became who she is.”
