Just minutes after Fox News released a statement confirming the network had parted ways with primetime host Tucker Carlson, newscaster Harris Faulkner announced the shocking exit on air.
Faulkner essentially read the network’s statement verbatim (see below), before delving right into a segment about a Washington state bill that would allow transgender medical procedures for minors without parental consent. Watch above.
As previously reported, Carlson’s last show aired Friday. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 pm ET starting this evening, as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.
Carlson’s exit comes in the wake of Fox News Channel reaching a settlement in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems, just as their much-publicized trial was about to get underway. Dominion claimed it was owed damages resulting from Fox News’ airing of false claims about its role in the 2020 election. In the past few months, emails and texts gathered for the trial from Fox executives and anchors — Carlson and Sean Hannity included — hinted that people working at the company knowingly put forth false information about the election and Dominion’s involvement in it.
Justin Nelson, an attorney representing Dominion, said the case was settled for $787.5 million.
In a statement released after the settlement was reached, Fox said: “We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems. We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”
Carlson began his Fox News tenure as a political analyst in 2009, appearing on various programs before the launch of Tucker Carlson Tonight in 2016. Prior to that, he worked at CNN from 2000 to 2005, where he served as cohost of the debate-style program Crossfire, before making the leap to MSNBC, where he hosted the primetime program Tucker from 2005 to 2008.
In other cable news, CNN on Monday terminated Don Lemon after 17 years. For more on that, go here.
There’s no way he wasn’t fired. They’ve hit the proverbial iceberg and are rearranging the chairs of the titanic.
Of course he was fired.
YAY!!!!! Now to remove Laura Ingram and Sean Hannity
If they do that, they’ll become a carbon copy of liberal biased CNN and the others.
Nah. They’ll just find other hosts so biased they’ll be willing to lie to further their agenda.
CNN don’t have a liberal bias, they have a fact-bias. The only people who think CNN is left-leaning are Trumpists – can’t even call them conservatives, because Trump is antithetical to actual conservative ideology. He’s full on neo-fascist.
“Neo-fascism usually includes ultranationalism, racial supremacy, populism, authoritarianism, nativism, xenophobia, and anti-immigration sentiment, as well as opposition to liberal democracy, social democracy, parliamentarianism, liberalism, Marxism, neoliberalism, communism, and socialism.”
CNN hasn’t been remotely “liberal” since Ted Turner sold them to AOL. And every corporate consolidation they have gone through since then has pushed them even further to the right.
The current owner, John Malone, is a card carrying member of the Ayn Rand serial killer groupie “Libertarian” cult.
Yeahhhh..because FOX News is such a liberal stronghold!!!! Ha!Ha! They’ll just hire other mouthpieces that’ll be too afraid to express their honest opinions off-air and will parrot the official network line.
as that old kids show use to say what a wonderful day in the neighborhood. what a wonderful day. now get rid of all the other losers dividing the county.behind the scenes he said he hated trump and couldnt stand to look at him. he devoted a whole show to him to kiss up. hey maybe he can be his vice president if he runs
Our president and his cabinet has been dividing this country since he took office.
You people will gaslight, obstruct and project the whole way down.
Bless your heart…..
.
And I mean that in the most Southern way
yes, you’re right. Trump and his minions did a great job at dividing our country. That’s what happens when your president can’t disagree with someone without making personal attacks and can’t accept not getting his own way.
It’s Trump the great divider?
Hate crimes rose when he took office.
His continuing lie about his 2020 loss further divides.
I see a future for him and Alex Jones as a tag team duo on WWE wrestling.
It’s also fake.
To paraphrase one Obi-Wan Kenobi: “I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of Fox News viewers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
–
While half the country (including myself) is rejoicing over this, I wonder if this will be a fatal blow to Fox News.
Disturbance in the force is appropriate. So Fox didn’t stand up for him. I won’t be watching Fox. I’ll go totally and directly to all the independent news sources now. I’ll be waiting to see where he is put back on and watch that source. I’ve never spoken out before. Silent no more. There are millions of us. You see what happens to our country next.
How do you reconcile the texts that came out vs what was said on air? I’m legitimately curious. I’m not sure why Fox would stand up for him considering they had to pay close to $800 million for his (and others) commentary.
The irony is that it the internal memos made clear that it was FOX network itself that made clear they knew full well that the statements made on-air were false but insisted Tucker & others HAD to lie to get the ratings. His firing may very well still bite them on the butt considering the Dominion lawsuit is the biggest one but there are multiple other plaintiffs suing over this–Tucker could very well be called as a witness (voluntary or hostile) and he’s now a free agent.
You guys are a teeny minority. I guess you want “news” that bleats what you already believe.
He used Rupert’s covfefe cup again. Completely understandable why he had to be let go. Never touch another man’s covfefe cup.
If Carlson continues to refuse to be truthful to himself, I guess a right-wing podcast lies in his future. Poor guy (but not financially).
HaHaHaHaHa! I truly believe this couldn’t have happened to a “nicer” guy. The damage he and his compatriots have done to our country is immeasurable! Good Riddance!
Was this part of the Dominin settlement!
So to make up for the Dominion lawsuit, FOX News cans their highest-rated show? I guess it’s the new math.
Tucker was the reason they had to shell out so much money – if he didn’t constantly lie on air, and then admit to those lies and defamations in texts, there wouldn’t have been a lawsuit in the first place.
Considering it was Tucker’s emails and text that have legs to Dominion’s case, I’m not sure the network saw this the same way you did. He lied. He knowingly went on air and stated things as fact that he knew to be wrong. His own texts and emails are evidence of that. He went on air and made claims you, apparently believed, and those falsehoods negatively influenced the perception of the company suing the network. These text and emails supporting Dominion’s libel case are why Fox shelled out millions in settlement. Tucker is why they are out cash and reputation – his ratings don’t make up for that. And it’s sad some Viewers are incapable of looking behind their hatred and anger to see what’s really there.
I haven’t watched FOX News in nearly a decade, but I do keep tabs on cable ratings
But apparently not on the facts surrounding the lawsuit the network must settled. Ratings won’t make up for the damage of libel suits lost. It’s been a while since I worked in print media, but I don’t think it’s changed that much. You cost the publisher or network a bunch in libel suits, your ratings don’t save you
Happy dance!!!!!!! Get that festering pustule off the air! Too bad there are no real consequences for Murdoch (except for money, which he has tons of). I wish he’d been forced to sell off the “news” portion of the network…then again, it could have been purchased by someone worse, so I guess it’s a wash.
Now Lemmon and Tucker can start another propoganda wing for the Dems.
Tucker is the only reason I watch FOX.
Guess that would be “was” the reason now.
Glad he is gone. Just seeing his face made me angry. Wonder if he had to sign a NDA as a part of his severance? If not, there could be a really interesting book/podcast coming.
Boar on the floor…
May he and Don Lemon (just fired from some other news network) can start their own show
Laura and the Judge should go with him
First ‘dominion’ to go!! Anyone who lied about the election is on their way out. They are all lawsuit(s) fodder. If they no longer work for FoxNews, then the lawsuits lose some ammunition. Time for a wholesale reset of FoxNews. wish they would find a shallow grave, but i’ll take what I can get.
