Think of it as Sunday night in with the Morgans.
Hilarie Burton is set to guest-star on AMC’s The Walking Dead as Negan’s late wife, Lucille — who, lore has it, years ago succumbed to pancreatic cancer, and after whom the onetime Saviors leader named his ominous baseball bat. As such, Burton will play opposite real-life husband Jeffrey Morgan, with whom she headlined the springtime AMC talk show Friday Night in With the Morgans.
Burton’s casting was first reported by ComicBook.com; she will make her debut during one of the six “bonus” episodes that were added to Season 10 when what was expected to be the finale got pushed back many months by the pandemic, airing Oct. 4.
“Been pretty hard to keep this a secret,” Burton shared on Twitter. “But I love working with @JDMorgan. I love watching him become #Negan and take on that swagger. And I love the @TheWalkingDead family. They’ve been a part of our family for ages and I’m so grateful for their kindness.”
Burton’s previous TV credits include, of course, One Tree Hill and White Collar, as well as Grey’s Anatomy, Lethal Weapon and Council of Dads.
Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang said this summer at Comic-Con@Home that the expanded Season 10 will resume in early 2021 “if all goes well.”

It looks like TWD is finally giving us a Negan backstory episode like they’ve done with so many other characters. I hope this is a standalone flashback episode and we can dive deep into his life pre-apocalypse. To be honest, I’m surprised we didn’t get this kind of episode when Negan was first introduced, which I think would have helped establish him as a character to root for earlier on.
It fully deserves a standalone episode as this is long overdue.
Cool! Nepotism
Actually, it’s smart. Because they are husband and wife, they’ll be able to have more intimate scenes, like kissing and cuddling. Otherwise, due to restrictions and protocols regarding COVID 19, they have to not write those or use CGI to fake it, which doesn’t always look good.
Dude have you been living under a rock. She got casted an safety protocol due to COVID since it’s not safe to cast an radomn actress as Negan’s Late Wife!
There is no such word as casted. The word is cast.
Shut up Luke and don’t be a nitpicker!

Another situation where SAG-AFTRA guidelines say that, whenever possible, cast an actor’s real-life partner as an acting partner or a body-double whenever there may be intimate scenes, like kissing, hugging, cuddling. Given Morgan is married to an established actress, that makes production easier, avoids having to use camera tricks and CGI for intimate scenes, makes work faster and safer. The way you talk, sounds like Burton is a nobody getting a big break because of Morgan. But she’s been around for a quarter century and is the calibre of actor that would be up for a guest role in a show like this, anyway.
I still wish Grey’s Anatomy would have kept her character around. She had really good chemistry with Jessica Capshaw.
This 100 percent! I loved her on greys!

Groovy. I always love some Hilarie Burton. Even if it’s probably just a one-off, flashback episode.
I know I’m too old to say this, but I find real-life husband-wife duos on screen so cringe. I adore Negan but I think I’ll pass. Pity.
