The X-Files: Scully’s [Spoiler] Returning
The X-Files is bringing back a key member of Scully’s entourage.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Sheila Larken is set to reprise her role as Gillian Anderson’s onscreen mom, Margaret Scully, in Fox’s upcoming six-episode continuation.

Larken is set to appear in the Glen Morgan-penned second episode, “Home Again,” airing Monday, Jan. 25. (The series returns Sunday, Jan. 24 following the NFC Championship Game.)
The character of Margaret last appeared 13 years ago, in Season 9’s ninth episode, “Provenance.”
Other X-Files favorites joining leads Anderson and David Duchovny in the revival include Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), cigarette-smoking man (William B. Davis) and the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).
The title and having Scully’s mom return has me thinking it isn’t a sequel to Home after all. But literally Scully returning home after some major event.
Ummm. We have known for awhile it’s not a sequel.

The writer came out and said that within days of the title being released.

“Home” can really mean so many things. yeah…
It could be a reference to the s4 episode “Home”.
It could mean home in any sense – “home” as in the basement office or the fbi. Or home as in them back solving the Xfiles. Or home as in her returning home – either her childhood/mothers home, or to Mulders home, or to her previous home. Or home as in someone else (either case related or their family related) returns “home”. Or home as in…
The possibilities are endless…because we have no information really about the plots.

A little unrelated, I read on IMDB that the woman who played Mulder’s mom is one year older than Duchovny. Like, she was 35 when he was 34. I’m having a hard time believing that.
I have a hard time believing they can recapture the entertainment value of the original series. Somethings are better left alone. What’s next, The New Lost In Space?
It’s a great premise you can continually work and expand on, kind of like Supernatural. And they made a Lost in Space movie in 98! It’d be no different than all the variations of Star Trek probably, but not with the original cast because Guy Williams is dead.
I always wondered that too. Their aging make-up budget in the 90s must have been top notch.

Sheila Larken isn’t the actress that played David’s mom. Rebecca Toolan is, and she turned 56 this year. David turned 55 today.

Kudos to her for being open to those roles if her look went that way. A lot of actresses would have failed to cash in on it for the sake of denial.

No she isn’t!!!! Toolan is from 1941 and David is from 1960, please get your facts straight, this is on the imdb…..
She was a great part of the show. Glad to see her back and looking forward to the Scully-centric storyline that I’m going out on a limb to expect.

What I don’t understand is this: How can David D. be back on the show at all–when his character completely disappeared previously. This is going to be very strange.
You obviously missed the 2008 “I Want to Believe” movie. No spoilers, but the “monster of the week” wasn’t that good. M&S sure were though!!
He came back in the series finale of the show and then appeared in the second movie.

Maybe this is going out on a limb, but could the title Home Again have anything to do with the return of the baby Scully gave up for adoption?
Oh, I hope so! Back when the show first ended I’d hoped that we’d get to see William again, that maybe he, Scully, and Mulder would get to have a life together…
Sigh…my bad…not angsty enough for this show, I know, but a fan can have hopes, right?
But, yes, it would be great to see how he turned out, and to find out if, despite his half-uncle’s (Spender) attempts, he still kept his gifts and played a role in whatever happened to the aliens, colonization, 2012, etc.
I hope the hell not. The baby thing was a HUGE mistake. It dumbed down the show. It stopped being the X-Files and became a stupid paranormal soap. The fact they got all the principal writers from the CLASSIC seasons points out to the reality that they are going back to the original style of the show
I wasn’t a fan of how it all played out, but they can’t pretend like it didn’t happen at the same time. I wouldn’t be surprised if they touched on it during the limited run.
