Unlikely BFF alert: Kara Zor-El and… Lex Luthor’s kid sis?!

Katie McGrath (Merlin, Dracula) has landed the coveted recurring role of Lena Luthor on Supergirl, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as LenaLuthorCEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.

Supergirl has made a number of significant casting moves as it transitions from CBS to The CW, most notably tapping Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin to guest-star as Superman. Other key hires include erstwhile Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, as president of Supergirl‘s United States, Cougar Town alum Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, a veteran journalist hired by Cat (Calista Flockhart, now a recurring guest star)Floriana Lima (The Family) as gay Metropolis Special Crimes Unit captain Maggie Sawyer, and Containment‘s Chris Wood as a mysterious DC character.

McGrath’s more recent credits include Jurassic World and the Chiller series Slasher.

Supergirl Season 2 premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
