Star Trek: Picard has just anointed a new queen: Annie Wersching (24, The Vampire Diaries) will join the Season 2 cast as the Borg Queen, TVLine has learned.
Wersching will recur as the infamous Trek villain, first introduced in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact and played by Alice Krige. The Borg Queen served as the de facto leader for the merciless Borg collective, one of the main adversaries for Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Krige also reprised the role in the 2001 series finale of Star Trek: Voyager. Susanna Thompson played the role in three other Voyager episodes.
The Borg Queen won’t be the only thorn in Jean-Luc’s side when Star Trek: Picard returns for Season 2 on Paramount+. John de Lancie is set to reprise his TNG role as trickster god Q, as seen in a teaser released in June. Season 2 of Picard is slated to debut next year, but no official premiere date has been set.
Wersching’s extensive list of TV roles includes playing FBI agent Renee Walker on the Fox thriller 24 and Stefan and Damon’s mother Lily Salvatore on the CW drama The Vampire Diaries. Her other credits include Castle, Timeless, The Rookie and Marvel’s Runaways, and she recently reprised her role as Julia Brasher on the Amazon cop drama Bosch. She has a Trek connection, too: She played Liana in the 2002 Star Trek: Enterprise episode “Oasis.”
Alright, Trekkies: Beam down to the comments and share your thoughts on the big Borg casting news.
Yes, I’ll be watching. Because resistance is futile.
Yes, unapologetically shilling for CBS’s online streaming shows is a futile enterprise. Fscking hell! Sometimes, I wish you guys could hear yourselves.
It’s 2021, cut the cord steady.
She will be an awesome Borg Queen.
I hope this season of Picard is better, because last season was not great, and it wasted Jeri Ryan.
I loved TNG and couldn’t get into Picard but will have to go back and watch if Annie is appearing.
.
I think she’ll be a great Queen as well.
Christi, I totally agree. Not only did they waste Jeri Ryan (whose appearance in the TNG universe was still kind of strange), they missed some great opportunities to utilize Jonathan Del Arco. (a.k.a. Hugh)
Hopefully, John de Lancie will breathe some life into this melancholy series.
Hard pass. Even super woke Stewart was uncomfortable with the cursing, puking and hatred of normal people on this show.
Should probably mention that Susanna Thompson played the Queen for most of her appearances on Voyager.
.
This is pretty cool news! I like Annie Wersching, I think she’ll be great as the Borg Queen.
She is certainly building up quite the resume of commanding, complicated villains.
Borg Queen shouldn’t be a big stretch from her religious culture leading ways on The Runaways. It sounds like good casting.
I didn’t recognize her from that picture and had to Google her before realizing she was Renee from 24. She’ll be great as the Borg Queen.
I guess I could’ve just read the rest of the article to figure out that part about Renee. But I’m really excited to see John de Lancie as Q again.
I love Annie Wersching so much… she will be a great queen! Great news!
What the hell stop putting spoilers in your headlines. Blocking this site permanently.
lol
Renee Walker gets Assimilated!
You know what would have been better than this news? Seeing the Borg Queen for the first time having no previous confirmation of the character being present so that it would be a surprise.
Or go back in time to season 1 and redo the ultimately quite disappointing Queen Seven Moment….i swear i have never had such instant emotional whiplash. Approximate retelling of my emotional Rollercoaster during that episode:
“Oh my God this is the coolest thing ever! Holy crap holy crap its even cooler than I imagined…wow if I could go back in time and tell my childhood self that this was happening…wait what….WHAT!?ITS OVER? ALREADY? They’re just in space scoop them up. They can evidently exist in stasis for decades within the cube (with no apparent power to their regeneration chambers) they can walk on the hull of the Enterprise and attack the crew…..but they squeal like deflating balloons cuz the Romulans opened a window. Did First Contact mean nothing???? Shenanigans.
(I actually don’t care for much of First Contact cuz sexy borg Queen and Data’s plot made no logical sense to me. I only watch it to see Lily Sloan and Picard yell at each other. I much prefer Voyager Borg Queen, where she was more of a foil to Janeway, even trying to replicate the Mother / Daughter relationship that Janeway and Seven had built. So I hope we have something more in that vein than sexy arm hair blowing lol
I wish TV, in general would go back to making 20+ episodes per year. Waiting 9 or 10 months between seasons is bs. If Star Trek needs me to write for them to make this happen, I will come aboard.
I totally agree!
Well, it’s fiiine! I’m just getting concerned about the whole population. Picard is getting up in years. I’ll be praying!
Werschimg great but don’t freaking queue freaking deLancie – PLEASE!!!
