ABC’s American Crime is adding another Emmy winner to its cast: Cherry Jones will join the acclaimed drama for the upcoming Season 3.

The 24 veteran will play the matriarch of a family-owned agricultural company, according to our sister site Variety, who first broke the news. Her role is recurring, and she joins Crime regulars Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, and Regina King (who just won her second Emmy for Crime) in the Season 3 cast.

Jones won her Emmy in 2009 for playing female President Allison Taylor in Season 7 of the Fox thriller 24. She’s also currently co-starring on Amazon’s Transparent as professor/poet Leslie Mackinaw. (And oh, by the way, she’s a five-time Tony nominee.)

American Crime‘s story and characters change each season, but we already know Season 3 will be set in North Carolina and will focus on “labor issues, economic divides and individual rights,” per executive producer John Ridley.

Season 3 of American Crime is set for eight episodes, and will air on ABC sometime next year.

Does the addition of Cherry Jones make a great cast even greater? And who will the other actors play in Season 3? Hit the comments and start theorizing.
