The final stretch of NBC’s Kentucky Derby coverage (from 6:30-7:15 pm) delivered a 10.5/23 in the overnight ratings, marking a 12 percent rise from 2016 and the race’s second-best prelim numbers in 25 years.
Also, its 280,000 unique streams represented a 25 percent gain year over year.
Elsewhere on Saturday:
* ABC’s NBA coverage led primetime with a 1.4 demo rating, followed by NBC’s NHL game (1.2).
* The antepenultimate Season 1 episode of CBS’ Training Day (3.2 mil/0.3) ticked up to its best Saturday audience thus far, while holding onto its demo low.
* Chris Pine delivered SNL‘s best audience for a May episode (6.92 mil) in five years, since the Mick Jagger-led Season 37 finale. In the demo, SNL‘s 1.87 rating was down 18 percent from Jimmy Fallon’s hosting, but it placed second for the week for all of broadcast, trailing The Big Bang Theory and edging out Empire.
