Keanu Reeves, P.I.?
Pop TV on Thursday announced a robust slate of new original programming, including Swedish Dicks, Private Detectives, a single-camera comedy series featuring Reeves in his first major TV role.
The Swedish import, which first premiered on the online streaming service Viaplay, also stars Peter Stormare (The Blacklist) and comedian Johan Glans as an aging ex-stuntman and a Swedish DJ who open an L.A.-based private detective firm; Reeves appears in a recurring capacity.
In addition to Swedish Dicks, Pop has ordered Clique, a BBC Three drama from the creative team behind the British phenomenon Skins. Per the network, the show “brings childhood soulmates Georgia (The Fall‘s Aisling Franciosi) and Holly (newcomer Synnove Karlsen) to a university, where a few weeks into the so-called best years of their lives, Georgia gets drawn into an elite clique of alpha girls, led by mysterious professor Jude Monroe (Sherlock‘s Louise Brealey).” Also ordered to series is Hot Date, a half-hour comedy based on the CollegeHumor web series of the same name, which counts Will Arnett as an executive producer. The latter is penciled in for a fall 2017 debut.
The cable network has also nabbed the off-network rights to The Goldbergs, currently in its fourth season on ABC. Reruns of the family sitcom will join the network’s nostalgic line-up — which already includes Baywatch, Beverly Hills, 90210, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, ER and That ’70s Show — later this year.
Not yet ordered to series but already in development include the following programs, which feature the likes of Kate Walsh (13 Reasons Why) and Mary McCormack (House of Lies), and hail from EPs Sarah Jessica Parker (Divorce), Rashida Jones (Angie Tribeca) Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones):
It’s A Date: A scripted anthology series described as an “irreverent, funny and no-holds-barred exploration of modern-day courtship,” from EP Sarah Jessica Parker.
The Demons of Dorian Gunn: A scripted drama about a “disgraced New York socialite” who “unwillingly abandons his life of leisure to protect humanity from monsters as they emerge from the gates of hell,” from EP Krysten Ritter.
Get In My Van: A travel show hosted by Kate Walsh and BFF Arden Myrin (Shameless), who travel the country in an RV and chat with both celebrity friends and regular folks.
You Take My Point: A pop culture panel show hosted by Mary McCormack from her Hollywood Hills home, featuring a rotating panel of celebrity guests including Rashida Jones (who serves as an EP) and Chelsea Handler.
