New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees, unite!
Fellow boy-band alums Donnie Wahlberg and Nick Lachey are joining forces to produce a CBS sitcom about a reunited boy band, our sister site Variety is reporting. The single-camera comedy, currently in development and tentatively titled Encore, centers on the members of a boy-band group who reunite 20 years later. (Should sound familiar to those two.) Entourage creator Doug Ellin is on board to write the pilot and serve as executive producer, along with Wahlberg and Lachey.
The two former teen idols actually came up with the idea for the show while touring together and discussing how different their grown-up lives with kids are compared to their original touring days. (Wahlberg was a member of late-’80s hitmakers NKOTB; Lachey came along a decade later as a member of 98 Degrees.) And Wahlberg is already on CBS, with his cop drama Blue Bloods currently in its seventh season.
Plus, there’s another connection here: Entourage, which Ellin created, was based on the life of movie star Mark Wahlberg — Donnie’s real-life brother.
