The former Dr. Frasier Crane is paying a house call to Modern Family.
Kelsey Grammer is set to guest-star in an upcoming episode of ABC’s hit sitcom, according to Entertainment Weekly. The five-time Emmy winner will play Keith, a circus ringmaster (yes, really) — and an ex-boyfriend of Cam’s (yes, really). Maybe they met back when Cam was playing his clown character Fizbo?
The casting isn’t a surprise, since Grammer has a longstanding connection with Modern Family creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd. The two were writers on Frasier, and they also co-created Grammer’s Fox comedy Back to You.
Grammer recently played studio boss Pat Brady opposite Matt Bomer in Amazon’s drama pilot The Last Tycoon, which got picked up to series. He also starred in two short-lived series: Starz’s Boss and FX’s Partners. Plus, he continues to voice murderous sidekick Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons, appearing in this season’s “Treehouse of Horror XXVII.”
Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on ABC; Grammer’s episode, filming this week, is slated to air in January.
