Showtime’s comedy pilot SMILF has added a couple of new cast members — possibly to make a love triangle.
Samara Weaving (Ash vs Evil Dead) and Ismael Cruz Cordova (Ray Donovan) have joined the cast of Frankie Shaw’s comedy pilot, TVLine has confirmed. The two will play lovers, with Weaving as aspiring sportscaster Nelson Rose and Cordova as immature recovering addict Rafi.
SMILF — yes, it stands for “single MILF” — is based on Shaw’s Sundance award-winning short film, and stars the Mr. Robot alum as a single twentysomething mom in Boston who’s trying to balance work, motherhood, and a half-decent sex life. (Rafi is her ex and baby daddy; Nelson is his new girlfriend.) Shaw is also writing, producing and directing the SMILF pilot.
Weaving is a native of Australia who made her U.S. TV debut as Heather on Ash vs Evil Dead; she’s also set to co-star in the upcoming McG horror-comedy The Babysitter. Along with his work as boxing champ Hector Campos on Ray Donovan, Cordova played Bible thumper Jimmy Patrick on The Good Wife and co-stars in next month’s Ang Lee film Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.
