Dynasty Reboot in the Works at The CW; Updated Version Will Be More Diverse

Dynasty Reboot

No strangers to #RichPeopleProblems, Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are returning to The CW to reboot Dynasty, one of the most iconic dramas in television history.

For those unfamiliar with the original series, which ran on ABC from 1981 to 1989, Dynasty followed the ongoing feud between two of America’s richest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys.

The CW’s Dynasty will put a “new spin” on the original story by transforming Krystle Jennings — a young secretary marrying into the Carrington family, originally played by Linda Evans — into a Hispanic woman named Cristal Jennings, our sister site Deadline reports.

Schwartz and Savage are writing the pilot, along with Revenge writer/producer Sallie Patrick. Dynasty creators Esther and Richard Shapiro are also on board, and Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will co-executive produce.

The CW is, of course, no stranger to adapting classic properties for a new generation. 90210 — a continuation of Beverly Hills, 90210 — ran for five seasons on the network (2008–2013), while Melrose Place — a continuation of the original Fox drama — ran for just one season (2009–2010).
