Jessica Biel’s new USA drama pilot The Sinner just got even more star-studded: Bill Pullman has joined the cast as a series regular.
Pullman will play Detective Harry Ambrose in the upcoming crime thriller, the network announced Monday. Harry is a detective who finds himself wrapped up in the case of Cora Tanner (Biel), a housewife who commits a very violent crime and has no idea why. As Harry digs into the case, he finds himself both fascinated and disturbed by Cora’s deep psychological scars. (Biel also serves as an executive producer on the pilot.)
Pullman is still best known for ’90s big-screen hits like Independence Day and While You Were Sleeping; earlier this year, he reprised his role as President Whitmore in the summer sequel Independence Day: Resurgence. Pullman’s most recent TV series-regular role was as another president, Dale Gilchrist, on NBC’s short-lived White House comedy 1600 Penn.
The Sinner represents another step away from USA Network’s lighter, “blue-skies” programming like Suits and Royal Pains and into darker territory like Mr. Robot — which, based on the critical acclaim Mr. Robot has received (including an Emmy for star Rami Malek), might not be a bad strategy.
