Ratings: Republican Convention Opens Strong, On Par With 2012

The broadcast networks’ coverage of Night 1 of the Republican National Convention totaled north of 10 million total viewers with a cumulative 2.3 demo rating, on par with the RNC’s opening night in 2012 and easily leading Monday in both measures.

Night 1 of Mitt Romney’s RNC, with cable viewership eventually folded in, went on to tally 22 million viewers. (Cable ratings come in much later in the day.)

NBC led the Big 3 coverage, delivering 4 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.

Placing No 2 for the night was ABC’s The Bachelorette, which was steady at 6.6 mil/1.9. NBC’s American Ninja Warrior (5.8 mil/1.7) dipped 9 percent and a tenth, while Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance (2.6 mil/0.7) ticked down to its third-smallest audience ever.
