Legends of Tomorrow Maisie Richardson-Sellers

Legends of Tomorrow Casts Originals Vet as New Vixen in Season 2

Legends of Tomorrow‘s new Vixen used to be a real witch.

The OriginalsMaisie Richardson-Sellers has been added to the Season 2 cast of the CW drama in the series-regular role of Amaya Jiwe, aka Vixen, TVLine has learned.

Richardson-Sellers’ incarnation of the character is the newest superhero to board the Waverider and join the team’s ranks. Like her granddaughter, Mari McCabe (portrayed by Megalyn E.K. on Arrow last season), Amaya’s powers are derived from the mysterious Tantu Totem, which allows her to magically access the abilities of animals.

E.K. will continue to voice the animated Vixen on the network’s digital channel, CW Seed.

Richardson-Sellers played Eva Sinclair, the witch whose body Rebekah was inhabiting on The Originals. She also appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Korr Sella, a Resistance officer reporting to General Leia Organa.

Legends of Tomorrow’s sophomore season premieres Thursday, Oct. 13, at 8/7c on The CW.

  1. Wordsmith says:

I know how CW shows like to “keep it in the family,” so not entirely a surprise.
Ignoring that, though, she’s an excellent choice. She’s a much more interesting actor than certain previous Legends cast members who shall remain nameless…

  2. jg says:

At least the character is supposed to be black.

    • Websnap says:

You’re right – can’t imaging why an Egyptian princess would be black. If Elizabeth Taylor thought us anything it is that Egyptian royalty has always been white.

  3. Lore says:

    Hello Rebeca

  4. Lala says:

Love this choice..she was incredible in TO..hope the allow her to use her British accent

  5. Lex says:

I did like Megalyn as Vixen (she made an otherwise kind of terrible episode a bit more interesting), so I am glad it’s not a total replacement. As long as the Hawks stay in their nest far, far away, and a certain Captain (or Citizen?) returns to snark and flirt with Sara, I’m good.

Of course, CW’s “keeping it in the family” gave us a Cordelia Chase (in season 1, before she got awesome), when we were supposed to get Buffy…

    • "A" says:

Maybe a big suprise for next season is they will meet up with Citizen Cold on their travels … and … he’ll become a full time member of Team Legends.

  6. Cali5 says:

Why is Megalyn gone? I really liked her. Would prefer to have her as Vixen.

    • Erik says:

Her schedule was full so she couldn’t. And there’s nothing stopping her from appearing on any of the shows as Mari since this new vixen isn’t Mari but an ancestor.

  7. Daniel snow says:

Of course they got rid of one woman of color so they have to replace her with another woman color. I hope that vixens character arc isn’t all about her love life.

  8. Dmac says:

She was fantastic on TO despite having to replace Claire Holts. This is a great move for the show.

  9. Joey Padron says:

Glad they found the actress to play new Vixen on the show. Looking forward to see her in new season and interacting with the team. Cool that character is grandmother to Meri McCabe.

  10. Ally Oop says:

She did a very good job on The Originals.
