Gotham Season 3

Gotham Casts Mob Scion Mario Falcone

Suggested tagline for Gotham Season 3: ‘Rise of the Epic Love Triangle.’

The Fox drama has cast James Carpinello (The Good Wife, Person of Interest) to play the pivotal role of mob progeny Mario Falcone — and his first order of business appears to be whacking Jim (Ben McKenzie) and Lee’s (Morena Baccarin) romance.

The son of feared mob boss Carmine Falcone (John Doman), Carpinello’s Mario has rejected his family’s criminal ways and made a legitimate life for himself as a well-respected, Ivy League-educated ER doctor. He’s kind, honest and trustworthy, making him the black sheep of the Falcone clan. But — and here’s where the official character description gets interesting — his arrival in Gotham will create major waves in the personal life of Jim Gordon, who at the end of Season 2 left town to find and win back his fiancee Lee.

In addition to his stints on Good Wife and POI (which of course starred his real-life bride Amy Acker), Carpinello recurred on USA Network’s In Plain Sight and was a regular on Fox’s short-lived Mob Doctor.

Carpinello joins a growing a list of recurring Season 3 guest stars that also includes Once Upon a Time warrior Jamie Chung’s as Valerie Vale, Vicki’s Aunt and All My Children grad Maggie Geha as the new Poison Ivy. Casting, meanwhile, continues for the role of the Mad Hatter.

Gotham‘s third season is set to debut on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8/7.

  1. Squirrelly says:

Sorry guys, you had me until “love triangle”.

  2. Dennis says:

Nice! I love this show. A love triangle is just what this show needs, it makes for great drama!

  3. Amanda says:

I was hoping we’d finally start getting more of the Falcone family since Carmine’s children play a huge role later when Bruce is Batman. Plus, would be nice if “Gotham” does go the route of Selena looking into her birth father as she at first suspects she is Carmine’s daughter but I could see the show twisting it and making it look like it could be Mario as her dad instead with the age changes.

  4. Larc says:

I think this is great casting.

  5. MangoMagic says:

Yay on the casting (loved him in POI), nay on the love triangle. Pointless romantic drama does not a good show make. Indeed.

  6. PretenderNX01 says:

I think it’d be a love-square with Jim having to decide between Lee and Valerie and Lee deciding between Jim and Mario. Or a pentagon if Nu-Ivy is in the mix. :p

  7. Kel says:

Not very excited about a love triangle, but it will be nice to see more Lee in Season 3. I know her real life pregnancy probably played a big part in her lack of screen time this season, but Morena Baccarin has been so underutilized on Gotham!

  8. Buffy0531 says:

Why does every show have to trot out the tired “love triangle” thing? Is there no creativity left? Can they not write an interesting story for a couple that does not involve constant threat of break up? That doesn’t make for must-see TV, rather, it makes for must-find-a-new-show.
