Ashley Zukerman is one of my favorite actors!

  2. Dani says:

Hamilton as a PBS Great Performance! I’m so excited.

    • Mark D. Moss says:

The play runs 2 hours & 45 minutes (including the 15-minute intermission). Whatever they’re doing on Great Performances sounds like it will only include some excerpts of the play, interspersed around the Lin-Manuel interviews (and others?). Unless there’s some aspect of this not being reported in the story, this will *NOT* be “Hamilton as a PBS Great Performance.” Too bad!!

      • Alice says:

        You’re combining two separate things.
The 90 min PBS documentary to air in October is a documentary ABOUT Hamilton the play and Miranda.

But Lin Manuel Miranda promised quite a while ago that a taped version of the entire show featuring the original cast was going to happen- since he couldn’t afford to see a lot of Broadway shows as a kid he identifies with the Hamilton fanbase that has never been able to see the show. That is what they announced today- that it was going to be taped sometime between now and his July exit.
Whether that full staging of the show is going to be made available through PBS’s Great Performances or another venue has not yet been announced. They do a great job-I particularly like the Hugh Jackman Oklahoma! taping- but they may have another target in mind.

        • Mark D. Moss says:

@Alice … I do understand what you’re saying, and I do understand that a performance is slated to be film prior to L-MM’s departure … but that’s not what this article or the Great Performances announcement are about (nor is my “correction” of the respondent above me any less correct).

Here’s hoping that the full performance *is* made available somehow somewhere … but it isn’t the GP episode that we’re discussing here. With all due respect, it’s *you* that are “combining two difference things.”

      • Dani says:

But they had longer shows. particularly operas in great performances before. I remember PBS airing Wagner’s Ring Cycle which was like 10 hours.

The article did state that it’s a documentary about Hamilton. Is it about the actual Hamilton, or the Broadway Hamilton? It is so vague. Maybe TVline can confirm. If it is just behind the scenes and a documentary, then I would honestly be disappointed.

        • Kris says:

Here’s info from the Playbill article:

“In addition to the PBS documentary, RadicalMedia will be filming Hamilton, led by Miranda, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre over the course of two performances later this month. Miranda’s representative confirmed that performances will be filmed in front of a live audience; however, use of the footage in its entirety or otherwise has yet to be determined.”

So it appears that they have yet to decide what they are doing with the full recording. One can hope that it will air on TV.

Love Hamilton – that’s great news!
