Tony Awards 2016 Performances

Tony Awards 2016 Performance Videos: Watch Waitress, Hamilton and 10 Others

The 70th annual Tony Awards should be used as a blueprint for all award shows moving forward.

This year’s ceremony — which held additional significance in the wake of Sunday’s shooting massacre in Orlando — was a powerful celebration of love, creativity and talent, peppered with incredible performances from some of the most gifted individuals ever to grace the Broadway stage.

And thanks to CBS, those performances are now available in their entirety to enjoy ad nauseam — if that’s even possible — beginning with host James Corden’s emotional opening number:

From now on, we’ll be doing things alphabetically. Enter the cast of Bright Star:

The cast of The Color Purple:

The cast of Fiddler on the Roof:

The cast of Hamilton, with a special intro from Barack and Michelle Obama:

The cast of On Your Feet!, featuring Gloria Estefan:

The cast of School of Rock:

The cast of She Loves Me:

The cast of Shuffle Along:

The cast of Spring Awakening:

Waitress‘ Jessie Mueller, featuring Sara Bareilles:

And we’ll end things, appropriately, with the ceremony’s closing number, which doubled as a Hamilton encore:

Great show! The only letdown for me was that Barbra Streisand did not perform! They built up her being there so much, and kept announcing her return after so many years. I just was so excited to hear what showstopping performance she would give. Just like she did as Fannie Brice in those Ziegfield Follies numbers. But alas, all she did was walk on stage and announce Hamilton as the While it was great to see Barbra, she has been seen in public, on talk shows, in the movies. I was just wait for her to return to Broadway with a showstopping performance.

To be fair all the written promotion prior to the show including mentions in the NY Times, Deadline, and the Hollywood Reporter stated that Ms. Streisand was going to be a presenter. Now it would have been a great surprise if after that she performed something from her new album, but that was not promised .

      • Gail says:

Also she did not perform the last time she was on the Tony Awards in 1970 when she was named Star of the Decade. Back then they gave Tony Awards to popular stars so they would appear on the show. Streisand did not win a competitive Tony for ether of the 2 Broadway shows she appeared in , “I Can Get It for You Wholesale” or ” Funny Girl.” She was nominated for both.

Thank you for giving easy access to these great numbers. What a spectacular Tony show last night. All these Shows should grow from the exposure!

That closing number with the Hamilton cast performing out of character just made me so happy :)

That lady in the yellow dress was spectacular!!! The entire show was fantastic.

    • grazelled says:

Her name is Renee Elise Goldsberry and she won the Tony for actress in a musical. I found out she could sing when I saw her on the soap One Life to Live about 10 years ago but I’m amazed at the depth of her talent! So happy for her!

      • CMG says:

I think that the “lady in the yellow dress” could be referencing Jessie Mueller from Waitress (as seen in the photo at the top of the page).
